Not everything is about the US.

Saying "amerikka" unironically makes you come across as an edgy 14-year-old.

This needs to be the new term.
- Comment on do humans shed more skin when sunbathing? 4 months ago:
It sounds like you just need to exfoliate when you bathe. You're wiping soap on your skin (presumably), but you need a coarser texture to remove the dead skin cells which build up.
- Comment on A WHO official says the US-built pier in Gaza not sufficient in delivering aid to Palestinians 4 months ago:
Did anyone actually think that this pier would be enough to cover all aid needs? Everyone on Lemmy seemed to get that this was a bandaid, at best, since well before the project was launched.
- Comment on USA | The Biden administration’s new automatic braking rule is “impractical,” auto industry says 4 months ago:
Last April, the US Department of Transportation finalized the rule requiring all vehicle manufacturers to include automatic emergency braking in their sedans, SUVs, and pickup trucks by 2029.
That's a nice and overly long way of saying that commercial vehicles are exempt from this rule.
- Comment on Verdant anti-builder Terra Nil gets a surprise free update with a "deeper" wildlife simulation 4 months ago:
Yeah, I'm somewhat interested in trying it, but not enough to pay more than ten bucks or so.
Part of the joy of PC gaming is how cheap and plentiful games are. You need to be special these days to warrant prices in the $15+ range.
- Comment on Study: 83% of Americans will have to work into their 70s in order to afford to retire 4 months ago:
Ah, my mistake. It is very complicated. Usually, as a rule of thumb, Medicare pays for elderly care and Medicaid pays for poverty care, but there are--as you point out here--exceptions. Rule of thumb doesn't always work so well.
- Comment on Study: 83% of Americans will have to work into their 70s in order to afford to retire 4 months ago:
My disability insurance (private, not public) specifically ends when I'm 60 (or before, if they can find a reason to disqualify me), so it's basically built in that I won't be able to retire.
- Comment on Study: 83% of Americans will have to work into their 70s in order to afford to retire 4 months ago:
Medicare, probably.
- Comment on Why not serve fried chicken on Juneteenth? How is it different from serving corned beef on St. Patrick’s day? 5 months ago:
This really does nail it. In the north, we do have the stereotype that black people like fried chicken. However, that is seen as neutral or positive. Fried chicken is delicious and black people tend to make great fried chicken. What's not to like?
- Comment on Why not serve fried chicken on Juneteenth? How is it different from serving corned beef on St. Patrick’s day? 5 months ago:
I think part of the disconnect is that you don't see that same mockery in the north.

MUDs were fun and underappreciated. As a bonus, not realizing that there were keyboard shortcuts led me to becoming the fastest typist I knew.
- Comment on "A pumpkin is not a house plant" they told me... 5 months ago:
You might have better luck indoors than outdoors, depending on where you live. Where I live, anything squash-related planted outdoors develops powdery mildew and dies. I have planted many pumpkins and successfully harvested one. Ever. Maybe I should plant some inside.

There's also the small fact that Zelensky has not banned elections.
- Comment on Xi Jinping claimed the US wants China to attack Taiwan, FT reports 5 months ago:
I know he's not an idiot, so I can only wonder what the motivation is for lying. He surely knows what he says here is the opposite of fact.

Partial controller support according to the Steam page. Only supports Xbox controllers.
- Comment on "Outrageously" priced weight-loss drugs could bankrupt US health care 5 months ago:
Should I not be eating sugared carbs for breakfast, a couple of baconators or a bucket of fried chicken for lunch, and prepackaged salty carbs for dinner?
What about if I throw it all in a casserole dish with some ultra processed mushroom slop, add a bunch of cheese product, and call it homemade? Does that fix it?
- Comment on "Outrageously" priced weight-loss drugs could bankrupt US health care 5 months ago:
its uniquely astronomical prescription drug pricing
lol, what multiverse version of the US has this writer been living in? There is nothing remotely unique about the astronomical price. It's just that these drugs treat such an extremely common problem that the astronomical price has raised more awareness than it typically does for other drugs. Just look up "orphan drugs" and I'm sure it won't be long before prices in the tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars get mentioned.
- Comment on Solving CAPTCHA for 'Bicycle' -- Include Rider? 5 months ago:
Those are specific items. I don't see why you would include people.
- Comment on Farmers Hiding Bird Flu Cases in Cattle from the FedGov 6 months ago:
It doesn't help that the CDC capitulates to economic interests. Everyone suddenly saw that when the pandemic hit (except for the MAGA types, who somehow were convinced the CDC was being overly strict when it was quite the opposite). Hard to get your credibility back when it's so blatant.
- Comment on Favourite controllers 6 months ago:
Meanwhile, I find even the "smaller" XBox controllers to be utterly unusable and have/had no troubles at all with the PS3 controller. Would be nice if there were more options for each console so that both you and I could be satisfied, but sadly that is not how it's done.

I wouldn't actually do that because that's wrong. But that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve it. Only that he's lucky he lives in a civilized society which doesn't believe in an eye for an eye.

Exercise can also be very damaging to people with ME/CFS as it triggers Post Exertional Malaise (PEM), which sometimes permanently reduces a patient's baseline.

I know this is a joke, but in all seriousness, after the Tohoku earthquake hit, the aftershocks were so nearly-constant that I eventually couldn't tell if there was one going on without looking at the water in the fish tank.
