- Comment on Motherboards and systems with China's Loongson CPUs now shipping to US customers — options start from $373 for a DTX board with processor and cooler 4 months ago:
This is not a good deal. First of all I highly doubt this mobo and CPU will be Windows 11 compatible so you’re out of luck there.
That’s a feature lol
For $373 you can find an AMD Ryzen 5 7600X and mobo combo deal that will vastly outperform this Chinese CPU
Really? I’m actually asking because I don’t think you can get the amd combo you mentioned at that price. Also, we’d need to confirm the specs and performance. So far it would be just speculation

Less than $400 for mobo, cpu and fan is not expensive even if it’s a couple of gens behind
- Comment on Apple Rumored to Be Working on AirPods With Built-in Cameras 4 months ago:
Exactly… I have regular buds for running and I hate them because they inevitably shift around a bit and , when I try to get them back in place, they start misinterpreting my touch with whatever touch command they were preprogrammed
These ideas sound nice in the brainstorming room but, in my experience, have rarely panned out in practice

- Comment on US to impose tariffs on Chinese EVs next week 5 months ago:
This is what I try to tell people who just want the cheapest things possible. We’re voting with our dollars what kind of world we want.
Ok, please tell me where can I buy <insert anything here> that’s wasn’t totally or partially made in China??
I’m an avid learner and DIY, I try to only buy raw materials and tools to make everything I can myself … I have yet to see standard basic tools that were not made in China…
I understand your point, but to expect that “voting with your wallet” will cause change, is like hoping we can turn around a cruise ship by blowing at it
Just look at the enshitification of everything… Did people vote that in with their wallets? Or all services decided that on greed and left us no choice but to hold our noses or give up the last few vestiges of entertainment that we could still afford?
- Comment on US to impose tariffs on Chinese EVs next week 5 months ago:
People have been mad for decades about what Walmart did to retail in the US.
And the government stepped in and addressed the situation, right? Right?
- Comment on US to impose tariffs on Chinese EVs next week 5 months ago:
Sure we will take the sacrifice… I’m sure this time capitalist will get the message and start behaving reasonably
It’s like that time thousands of us reduced or eliminated meat intake and suddenly the Kardashians realized taking private jet flight to avoid a few minutes of traffic was bad and stopped doing it

I believe in nuclear and hope you are right …
We already have had real close calls on nuclear (Chernobyl for example)… Have we learned from our mistakes? I hope so
- Comment on Sam Altman takes nuclear energy company Oklo public to help power his AI ambitions 5 months ago:
You are right, this corruption case was not about regulations but, imo, that’s just a matter or price and time.
A long time ago I read about some horrible explosion in a sugar refinery and was amazed how so many industries have had lethal cases like that which can be traced directly to greed (not negligence, not an accident, not a bad mix of circumstances, just greed)
Since then I have all but convinced myself that every industry out there have had a similar example (usually more than one) which is why I have zero tolerance for the notion that industry can regulate itself. Every single time a politician talks about deregulation for efficiency or job creation, what they really mean is they are taking “donations” and couldn’t care less that people get hurt

I respect your attempt to narrow it down enough to maybe escape my generalization… The lesson is never put your trust in politicians
- Comment on Sam Altman takes nuclear energy company Oklo public to help power his AI ambitions 5 months ago:
There are regulations in place
Unfortunately made and destroyed by policitians you can legally buy in the USA… They are cheap too, $10k gets you tons of access, for $100k you can make them dance like monkeys

This is the right point to make… Instead of managing people by the work they do or the objectives they achieve, they are managing literally where their butts sit

AFAIK, a business that is not in bed with corrupt politicians is because they have ready been beaten or they can’t afford it

Well think about if everybody did do that at the same time. Canceled Netflix, stopped going to Starbucks, stop shopping a certain places.
It’s impossible to organize… More importantly, the government would bail them out because they are too big to fall
Maybe just for one week. What if everybody had enough gas in the world they could skip a day or two of getting gas.
Again, impossible to organize and completely useless… By the end of the week the oil companies would be whole anyway. What do they care if they have a revenue dip for 3 days followed by a revenue bump as everybody ran out of gas and had to fill up again ?

Pretty much… Trudeau has been the embodiment of mediocrity but then PP and whatever forces turned that into a meme

I’m like you OP, a fellow Canadian
And we should be worried… We are governed by children and, as such, the company they keep is extremely influential
We are about to elect a PM who has never had a real job outside of government and, somehow, has no political record to speak off.
PP has been leader of the opposition for years now and still has not proposed anything, shown any solution, discussed any alternate path to improve anything.
Like Trump, all he does is lie to the camera and play victim

The only time I seemingly got to a Spotify support person was just because I was cancelling and they wanted to convince me otherwise

You say “bizarre” they say “marketing strategy”… They chose to do this knowing people wouldn’t be milked $200 for an app, but if they make it look like a device, the sheep will be lured
- Comment on Rabbit R1 AI box revealed to just be an Android app 6 months ago:
The answer is “marketing”
They have pushed AI so hard in the last couple of years they have convinced many that we are 1 year away from Terminator travelling back in time to prevent the apocalypse

LinkedIn has been the Facebook you can us at work for a while
So we agree it was already garbage! Lol
Honestly I don’t even get it, I have a LinkedIn account that I have updated twice (only when getting ready to change jobs)
I only keep it because I have heard more than once that " an IT person without a LinkedIn profile is a red flag" which I find completely idiotic but the world we live in is idiotic
As far as I know, none of the job offers I have received have actually been affected in anyway due to my LinkedIn profile… It has only served to get spam and lame short term contract offers (like I’m leaving my full time job for a 1 year “exiting” contract)
