There’s always going to be a status quo, an absolutely equal society can’t exist when people are not identical. You just want a different status quo.

- Comment on What do you think people take too seriously? 1 month ago:
Hands down politics, or seeing everything from a political lens.
Not everything has to be a fucking political statement, and not everything about politics has to be life or death. That’s just bullshit that politicians want you to buy into so that you’re emotionally hijacked enough to be easy to manipulate. Take a step back and stop taking them so damn seriously.

I mean we’re not trying to be wolfballs or EH reincarnate, and we’re not an absolutist free speech instance either. I think right now HC is not that controversial, they’re more likely to defederate us because of people claiming we’re just like these past “evils” than they are to defederate us for what we actually are. I hope they can see past that, but I guess we’ll find out.
Regardless, I don’t think we have anything to lose.
- Comment on Deeper, chief! Expanding federation 1 month ago:
It is nice, and yes I completely agree with you, being antagonistic doesn’t help anything.
I think HC right now is a desirable instance to federate with, we are content generators (which very few instances are) and we’re not trying to fight anyone or piss anyone off on purpose. Majority of our content is not political at all either.
I think most of the instances that have de-federated us went by the “they’re just EH reincarnated” stigma and didn’t bother to look any further. I think that’s pretty silly, since we’re really not that despite many users having come from there.
We’re always going to be a bad fit with the “super safe space” instances and that’s fair enough, but my hope is we can play together with everyone else.
- Comment on Ok guys, just quick thoughts after reevaluating the situation with the instance 1 month ago:
That’s unfortunately how it is, most people don’t post anything. It’s the same on all instances, the proportion of active users is tiny compared to the total user count. It’s very hard to get a critical mass of active posters going.
I think it’s a good call, I agree it’s probably going to be a slow burn over time.

- Comment on The General Problem of "Disorganization" 1 month ago:
I think it depends a lot on you as a person. I like to wing things, I don’t like to be scripted. For example, I like to walk around a new place and find shit that interests me and go do it. If I need to talk in front of people, I will never read off a piece of paper. Generally speaking I’m reasonably impulsive and like to improvise.
This drives very organized people crazy, since they need the opposite of this, they want certainty, they need a plan, a written speech, etc.
I think the military pushes being very organized because that saves your life, soldiers need to follow agreed methods, they need to stick to the training, they need to do things a certain way and obey orders. This doesn’t mean not having initiative.
Not being overly organized doesn’t necessarily mean being messy, I’m not really messy for example, but I’m going to clean up based on when it suits me rather than on a set schedule.
I think what you’re describing is more the feeling of uncertainty that derives from those things. “Disorganization” can certainly cause uncertainty, but it doesn’t have to. You can be reasonably certain of the outcome of something without having a very detailed plan to achieve it.
I don’t think that detrimental things like short-term thinking and ballooning debt is necessarily the product of disorganization. I don’t think that the US government lacks the organization to get that under control, for example. I think that the measures needed to contain these things are unpopular because they mean tightening the belt in a lot of places, and politicians would prefer that the next guy has to deal with that.

- Comment on DebateLibertarianism: Present Your Arguments For or Against? 1 month ago:
While not perfect, that’s why governments usually try to have a system of checks and balances. There’s also the tug of war between private businesses, corporations and the government. You will always have an imbalance in favor of one or the other, it’s a delicate balancing act, but at least there is that attempt to balance things out.
Pure Libertarianism would just let the pieces fall where they may, with any one entity becoming as powerful as it can be. Eventually you will end up under the authoritarian rule of some mega corp who owns almost everything.
- Comment on DebateLibertarianism: Present Your Arguments For or Against? 1 month ago:
My impression is Libertarianism relies on everyone doing the right thing in a form of equilibrium, and I just don’t think that could ever work. People will always organize themselves to gain an edge, powerful groups will then exploit weaker ones, etc.
- Comment on What would be important for you in a relationship with someone? 1 month ago:
Who they are and how I enjoy their company is very important to me. I couldn’t be with someone if I find them boring to talk to, if we can’t share a laugh or enjoy doing things together. Attraction is also very important, it would be dishonest to say it didn’t matter, but it’s a package deal. Good looks alone mean nothing to me.
I also value intelligence, honesty and integrity.
