- Comment on YouTube’s new Discord-like Communities are rolling out to more creators 17 hours ago:
It’s nothing like Discord. It’s just the ability to create a post to a wall, include images, and have people be able to comment. Then you can filter between posts of the YT creator or the rest.
Discord uses dedicated announcement channels, roles, personalisation, hierarchical permissions and a bunch of external apps to be able to create and sustain a community.
But the biggest difference? Discord is instant chat. This is just YouTube comments with attachments that you can post to the channel instead of a video. Meh.
- Comment on Italy blocks access to the Chinese AI application DeepSeek to protect users' data, announces investigation into the companies behind chatbot 1 day ago:
FWIW, in April 2023 ChatGPT was also blocked for a month over privacy violations, resulting in a €15 million fine.
- Comment on Amazon sued for snarfing sensitive data via advertising SDK 2 days ago:
It’s in the URL, so they changed it when they realized it didn’t do too well. Happens a lot with news articles. Based on click rate, one version will be declared the best.
- Comment on French NGOs to quit social media platform X following Trump inauguration 1 week ago:
Once again, French people showing balls and putting their money where their mouth is.
Many more organisations and private users should do this, but everyone’s scared of losing engagement numbers, ad revenue or virtual internet points.
- Comment on Rumor: New Details On Bungie's Upcoming MOBA Gummy Bears Revealed 2 weeks ago:
While fundamentally a MOBA, the game’s “Smash Bros.” influences mean it feels distinct from other entries in the genre; falling off maps, and replacing health-bar eliminations.
I don’t think it’s gonna be very popular if it’s “just” a MOBA. While Smash Bros. is a great game on the technical level (except Brawl), they are carried by the massive IPs that appear in the game(s).
- Comment on would you buy a compact laptop that has spacebar touch sensitivity and allows you to adjust input sensitivity, giving it dual purpose (a spacebar and a mouse)+ it has integrated A5 printer in it? 3 weeks ago:
Depending on the specs, that sounds like it could be fun. Like a quirky street performance thing for artists to draw, print & sell art all at once?
- Comment on Fan Sonic Adventure 2 Remake Teases City Escape in UE5 | Retro Gaming News 24/7 1 month ago:
The Sonic/Shadow levels and the Chao Garden are the only reason this game is remembered well. I hope this remake fixes the terrible sound mixing, boring Tails/Eggman levels and frustrating Knuckles/Rouge levels.
I’m sure the Chao Garden mechanic has been made by someone already, I’ll see if I can find anything
- Comment on “Fly Me to the Moon” is a stupid song. You want to know what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars? Extremely unpleasant. 1 month ago:
92% of songs are about love or sex.
That’s got nothing to do with my personal taste, that’s sex selling (pop) music.
- Comment on “Fly Me to the Moon” is a stupid song. You want to know what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars? Extremely unpleasant. 1 month ago:
Every song ever is about romance, sex or drugs.
This song is about romance. They didn’t mean it literally.
- Comment on AI in Mobile Phones: The Era of Smart App-less Interfaces 1 month ago:
No thanks. I would also like to see news that I don’t necessarily like, from sources I might not necessarily agree with.
- Comment on Just Fucking Ask AI - your friendly reminder 1 month ago:
I asked AI how to toggle a setting in a popular messaging platform and it got it wrong.

- Comment on SOUL PARK (in early access), a themepark "at the gates of hell" management game, releases demo on Steam 2 months ago:
released in June, less than 6 bucks, only 1 review.
I haven’t tried it yet, but it’s hard being an indie dev it seems.

- Comment on What is the difference between lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works? 2 months ago:
Here’s the description by both:
sh.itjust.works:
A bilingual (EN/FR) general-purpose instance located in eastern Canada! Powered by 99% renewable energy! Everyone is welcome eh.
Lemmy.World:
A generic Lemmy server for everyone to use. (…) Lemmy.World is a general-purpose Lemmy instance of various topics, for the entire world to use
The comments about instances being “good” or “bad” is just plain ol’ tribalism.
Users get attacked for the instances they registered to, even if they were unaware of instance politics when they actually registered. That sucks!

- Comment on How To Compress A Video Without Losing Quality 2 months ago:
Having fun responding to these advertorials:
Title: "How To Compress A Video Without Losing Quality"
- Compress video using Zip Yeah, I always share my videos in a zip file, especially when I’m sharing it with strangers.
- Change the resolution I thought without losing quality was the goal here?
Anyway, use HandBrake to compress videos. It’s got a slider for quality so you can finetune the quality and file size to get as close to the file size you want to share it.

So this is an ad for the website the blog is written on, I take it?

Ah, there it is.
- Comment on PS5 Pro is struggling to improve some games, despite its power advantage 2 months ago:
So 2 out of 50 games aren’t really improved, aka 4%.
Turns out you can’t just throw better hardware at every game to make it run better, who would have thought.
- Comment on Is there a way to exclude topics from what I see on Lemmy? 2 months ago:
I think this is only possible through apps at the moment, like Voyager. Although there has been recent talk on GitHub, they acknowledge it will take a while before it’s implemented.
- Comment on Signal gets new video call features, making it a viable alternative to Zoom, Meet and Teams 2 months ago:
And an alternative to Discord?
A chatroom isn’t hard to replace, but the video/voice calling on Discord is what keeps people there.

It’s not pandering to children. It’s pandering to “ad-friendly” platforms that otherwise overly or covertly suppress the content
- Comment on Sonic Adventure DX gripe 2 months ago:
I found Pikmin 4 problematic in a way too. You get the best toys at the very end so you end up not using them very much
- Comment on Sonic Adventure DX gripe 2 months ago:
Patient gamers do not face a lot of disadvantages, but they do include (artificial) scarcity, waning official support and facing old-ass design choices that might not look very favourable anymore.
My problem with this is that once the game is 100% complete, do I want to still play just to see a different cosmetic?
I don’t really see this as an issue, but as a choice. Back in the day, games lasted a lot longer. Hell yes we wanted to play as Metal Sonic. The next best thing we had was replaying the game as just Sonic.
- Comment on Monthly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing? 2 months ago:
I’ve found the perfect method to take a break from Factorio is to apply Satisfactory and a dash of Techtonica.
I say break, because there’s no stopping Factorio. I’m afraid it’s chronic.
- Comment on Moderators protect us from the worst of the internet. That comes at huge personal cost. 2 months ago:
As a moderator and admin for countless Discord communities, yeah, I’ve seen some vile shit.
Pretending that it doesn’t have an impact doesn’t help in the long run. Secondary Trauma is a thing. Create a workflow to distance yourself from the content, plan breaks, and please talk to someone (qualified) about it.
