I guess there are some examples of that happening with places like patreon, floatplane, twitch, kick, etc. It’s hard to fathom anything coming along that can even approach the reach of youtube without backing from another big tech company and eventually following the same enshittification pattern.
- Comment on YouTube ads are about to get even longer and they’ll be unskippable - Dexerto 1 week ago:
That used to be a fair deal. We know better now and even have a word for what will happen to us once we’re locked into the system, enshittification. Just about every subscription model eventually leads to squeezing as much as they can out of us without a corresponding increase in value.
- Comment on Jason Schreier says Sony is backing away from putting single player games on PC 3 weeks ago:
The only way this makes sense is if Sony feels they’ve cornered enough of the market to be able to recoup the enormous costs of AAA development. I don’t see how that’s possible without a huge price increase of the console and games.

Sounds like the custom format isn’t working. A screenshot might help.

From the article: “people with bricked devices will need to contact the company’s customer support for recourse”
It’s still early but I’m going to keep on eye on how they treat the people that call them for support.

- Comment on OnePlus update blocks downgrades and custom ROMs by blowing a fuse 1 month ago:
I haven’t read the entire XDA thread but there are a few posts saying it’s limited to ColorOS (Chinese version of android that everyone else gets as OxygenOS). Unable to verify.
If they don’t reverse course, I’m sure it’ll roll out globally eventually.

I have no doubts about your experience. I can only rely on personal experience, which has been the exact opposite, and that of expert reviewers.
- Comment on Sony’s TV business is being taken over by TCL 1 month ago:
I own a sony TV. The hdtvtest guy is my goto for staying updated on TV tech and sony regularly comes out as his best of the year. Yes, they’re pricey but you’re getting something for that premium.
This is a sad day in my books now that TCL will be able to enshittify the Sony brand.
- Comment on GamersNexus - Creating a 48GB NVIDIA RTX 4090 GPU | Brother Zhang's Repair Shop (ft. 张哥) 2 months ago:
This was a really good watch. I have a feeling we’re going to see these type of shops pop up everywhere over the next few years with the rampocalypse forcing everyone to hold on to their hardware for the duration.
- Comment on Some Japanese shops start rationing GPUs — graphics cards with 16GB VRAM and up are becoming harder to find, says one store 2 months ago:
Kinda. The supply issue was solved but they just decided to keep the prices inflated using shady renaming tactics (ie: what should’ve been the 4060 became the 4070) and not enough people cared.

It might help if you could mention the ones you’ve tried and why they didn’t work you and any specific features you’re looking for not available from these existing extensions.

The gaming benchmarks show you’ll probably be able to play most of the older f2p games at 720p low settings and be =>30fps.

Got it. Never even thought about looking into books when I was getting into the hobby. It was all just searching and following online guides. I am curious if there’s anything out there other than the typical linux/networking stuff.

Guys, OP is asking for recommendations for books about selfhosting, not recommendations on how to self-host books.
- Comment on Family Email w/ Custom Domain 3 months ago:
I’ve been on purelymail.com for a couple of years. Receive about 1000 emails a month and send out about 50. Averaging around $0.40/month. They also have a flat rate option of $10/year as long as you don’t abuse the system.

I saw this in the selfhosted newsletter and decided to give it a shot. I liked stirling but also found it slow. My first reaction after trying Bento was “this is magic, how does this work?”
I have it running on a pi4 now.

The headline is misleading. GPU offering could refer to their integrated GPUs rather than discrete cards.

Maybe. I don’t know how to decide right/wrong for prices given how varied value judgments are. It’s not for me but if I spent $$$ for a 5090, I’d be all over this cable in a heartbeat.

Seems inline with prices for this type of cable. Also, it’s probably only useful for people buying $1000+ gpus.

- Comment on Mastercard release a statement about game stores, payment processors and adult content 7 months ago:
We’ll probably never get the whole story. Itch’s update from yesterday points the finger at stripe, others could still be involved.
- Comment on Mastercard release a statement about game stores, payment processors and adult content 7 months ago:
True. Collective shout targeted visa, mc, paypal and paysafe. I guess it’s possible the game storefronts acted due to concerns of one of them.
- Comment on Mastercard release a statement about game stores, payment processors and adult content 7 months ago:
MC: It’s not us.
Steam & Itch: It’s the payment processors.
Gee, I wonder who people are going to believe.
