The movie is very loosely based on the first book. The screenwriter read it, had a dream about it, then wrote the movie based off the dream they had, intentionally never referencing the book while writing it. Which… Idk. Kinda fits the vibe of the story, but I’d love an authentic adaptation of the book, because it’s incredible.
The second book was a hard read for me, but it’s worth it to get to third, and honestly the third kind of retroactively makes the second one better. There’s supposed to be a 4th in the works I believe, but don’t quote me on that.

Reminds me of the biologist from Annihilation. Time to reread the trilogy I guess.
- Comment on Coming on Lemmy and complaining because there are too many Linux users is like going in to a brothel and complaining that there are too many hookers 3 weeks ago:
Yeah, I kind of agree here. I’d love to switch to Linux as my every day driver, but some things keep me tied to windows. Gaming is getting better on Linux by the day, but I still can’t use Ableton on Linux, and that’s basically a deal breaker for me. I think the newest Push has Linux support though, so who knows? Maybe one day.
- Comment on A TikTok alternative called Loops is coming for the fediverse | Users own their content, and Loops doesn’t sell or provide videos to third-party advertisers or train AI on them. It will be open source 3 weeks ago:
It’s also one of the best ways to advertise as a small content creator. The internet hates self-promotion with a passion, but short form videos? People love that shit.

Fuck off, yankee. Like the rest of the country doesn’t have backwoods towns with morons in it too, oh no, that’s purely a southern problem. And racism? No, no, places like Ohio and Illinois and fuckin Glendale, California don’t have racist idiots, certainly.
Any problem you can find with the south can be found anywhere else in the country, y’all just like to put blinders on.

- Comment on TikTok is allowing users to spread manipulated videos of Biden, despite the platform's policies 6 months ago:
I finally made a TikTok recently. On desktop, I couldn’t follow anybody, and after a week I couldn’t upload videos. Downloaded the mobile app, and my phone battery started losing 40-50% more battery per day, despite less than 5 minutes of usage per day in the tiktok app (uninstalled tiktok and all of a sudden my battery issues are gone).
Some time in the last week, I was suspended for having my twitch name visible in a tiktok. Or at least I assume so, since they never actually told me why I was suspended, or even that I was until I tried to login to upload a video.
What I’m getting at is, fuck tiktok.
- Comment on What are your favorite Dreamcast games? 7 months ago:
I had this really strange game called Seventh Cross Evolution. It wasn’t really a good game, but I loved it.
You started out as a tiny amoeba, and ate food to gain evolution points. You’d then use those points to add colors to a grid, I think you had six colors. The arrangement of those colors in the grid would unlock new body parts, like tentacle legs, or human arms, or a shark head.
It was super weird and clunky, but I loved it as a kid. I would spend hours just making pictures and seeing what I’d get. Might have to revisit that one soon, could make a fun stream game.
- Comment on eBay to pay $3 million for harassment targeting Massachusetts couple over newsletter 10 months ago:
Man, it’s worse than that. The CEO left in September 2019 with a multimillion dollar exit package, and went on to become a chairman of GM. The guy below him who mobilized the security team left to be the CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Silicon Valley. I did a deep dive video on this today, but I dont want to spam the link. It’s in my profile in a recent comment if you’re interested.

I actually just made a video about this story today. It’s crazy how far ebay went with this.
