Not only does my local library have a maker space, but there is also a local FB group where people lend their tools and other things (like cooking supplies)

I used to do surveys as a CEO of a megacorp making lots of money
Turns out they give more money to you if you’re already rich…(probably because rich people don’t really do that stuff so they want more of their data)

- Comment on I mean have they seen our stipends 2 weeks ago:
Yeah so you have to pay an extra monthly “rent” PER PET (not to mention the extra deposits! Yes plural)
I was looking at a place the other day. 2 bedroom apartment in a shitty area. I didn’t take notes on all the costs but this is what I have:
Application Fee: $50 per applicant Rent: $1450 Security Deposit: $1450 Nonrefundable Pet Deposit per pet: $300 Pet Deposit per pet: $200 Pet Rent per pet: $25
No utilities included
- Comment on I mean have they seen our stipends 2 weeks ago:
When I was working on mine I was making $1800 and rent was only ~$720 for a 2 bed. I think that included pet rent too.
The mental toll however…(Hundreds of thousands of dollars in insurance claims later, probably more)

What about overcrowded refugee camps? Hospitals with no power or running water? Entire cities with murdered people everywhere? Bulldozers running over people? People crushed by falling crates? Operating rooms with no anesthetics?
Are any of those considered a health issue?

Yes. Adding to the other comment, if you don’t have good credit you can also lose out on certain job opportunities.
- Comment on Can we all agree that whatever version of predictive text we have nowadays is crap, and has been for a long time? 2 weeks ago:
I turned it off a long time ago when it started replacing entire sentences. So annoying!!
I still have the suggestions on but I might turn that off too because it keeps suggesting words in other languages even though I’m on the English keyboard and don’t know much in any other language (and the only other keyboard I have is the Spanish one).
Also the dictionary doesn’t have a shit ton of common words in it for some reason, so if I can’t think of the proper spelling I have to look it up anyway. Which is also annoying because search engines suck and I never have a hard copy handy.
- Comment on Why do passports need to be signed to be valid? 2 weeks ago:
Yes, a legal representative can do it. I’m not sure if just a notary would suffice though, at least not where I am.
Thumbprints are another possible way. Also simple marks like an X.
- Comment on Why do passports need to be signed to be valid? 2 weeks ago:
Banks will sometimes require your signature match the original signature they have on file. I’m guessing it’s not as common anymore with online banking but I know a few years ago I had to sign something a number of times because it wasn’t close enough to the original.
I thought about it and it might have been around 10 years ago😬

Damn. You just reminded me of the comments I received on my first paper. They said it was the most uninteresting work they had ever seen and added nothing to the last 4 decades of research on the subject.

- Comment on Why do Americans measure everything in cups? 5 weeks ago:
Nope. I mean technically they are supposed to be. But in practice, absolutely not. Im pretty sure manufacturers just make cups with random lines on it.
This is why I have a dry and a wet measuring cups. Although that still isn’t a standard. But at least if you consistently use the same cup for the same thing you can fine tune it that way.

Honestly it kind of makes me wonder who I am trusting to serve me safe mushrooms.
I guess I always assume food I get from a store (or restaurant) is safe (unless it’s expired or has other obvious issues). And like, most foods have brand recognition of some sort (which may or may not mean anything). But I couldn’t tell you a single company that harvests and sells mushrooms. I mean the blue container makes me feel safe (???) but like…I don’t even know if that’s a marketing thing or just what every company does.
Anyway now I am going to look all of this up.
