- Comment on How can a ugly and short guy compensate for his looks? 8 months ago:
you could have a winning personality - make women laugh (with you, not at you)… alternately, you could obtain a lot of muscles, that’s all some women need. or move somewhere where men are in short supply - or where you’d be seen as exotic… and it’d be cheaper than leg lengthening surgery.
- Comment on Why does Microsoft want me to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11? 8 months ago:
less a question and more of an opinion. is there an opinion community? maybe post there instead
- Comment on Why don't we have one timezone covering the whole earth? 8 months ago:
yeah I see what you mean. you’d have to replace all 12 hour clocks world-wide though - and then accept that it would take generations for people to adapt. it’d probably never going to happen.
- Comment on As states slash rooftop solar incentives, Puerto Rico extends them | Grist 8 months ago:
PR is far more geographically isolated from the mainland than anywhere other than Hawaii (and other outlying islands like Guam), and they also get a lot more sun than the mainland. going big into solar will result in more energy/less downtime when the next hurricane ravages their shores.
- Comment on If I put a gallon of 10% cider vinegar in a shallow pan and let 1/2 gallon evaporate, will that make it double its strength? 8 months ago:
30% vinegar is pretty amazing stuff, I use it on my toilet every 6 months or so. really eats away those organic stains. used it for cleaning metal a few times too, it’s a really solid purchase.
no idea about the evaporation.
- Comment on Why don't we have one timezone covering the whole earth? 8 months ago:
eh… do you really want to be scheduled to start work at 8am when 8am is mid-afternoon? me neither.
- Comment on Why is living with your parents considered a bad thing? 9 months ago:
in the US, we value independence - and living with your parents after you’re 18 is the polar opposite, or so society would lead you to believe.
- Comment on Imagine a man - born, live, die, in a shoebox. His universe is a constant air-conditioned 8x13x5. What does that do to his perspective, values, science...? 9 months ago:
are they all in the same box or in different boxes?
- Comment on Global survey shows broad majority of global population supports climate action 9 months ago:
the broad majority doesnt set policy
- Comment on Can you survive on pickles alone, for a while? 10 months ago:
vinegar pickles or pickled foods? lactofermented foods are technically pickles and I’ve seen quite a bit of pickled meat. pickling is a food preservation method, you dont need high levels of sodium, though it certainly helps.
- Comment on What's up with all this data breaches and leaks? 10 months ago:
any system or network is only as strong as its weakest component - in many cases, people are the weakest component.
- Comment on [deleted] 11 months ago:
the “religious toxicity” is an extension of tribalism. the culture hasnt really evolved much & it’s super easy for religion to sink its teeth in
- Comment on Whats the difference between cheap and expensive modern TVs? 11 months ago:
branding. if you want a name brand (Sony, Samsung, LG, etc) you’re going to pay through the nose for it. the knockoff chinese brands that have weird, acronym or nonsense-sounding names are going to be able to offer a perfectly good “TV” experience for a fraction of the cost of a name brand TV
- Comment on Why do people always assume you're part of a group just because you're defending them? 11 months ago:
because it’s easier to make assumptions than to use critical thinking
- Comment on Is it considered ableism to treat someone unfairly with regard to their health condition(s) even if they're not a recognised disability? 11 months ago:
if it’s not recognized, not sure why it’d be discrimination. sure, anyone can be a victim - but not everyone is.
- Comment on [deleted] 11 months ago:
realtime encryption systems are what you’re looking for - but in the grand scheme of things, the only privacy that exists is between your ears.
- Comment on Aircon fell out window 11 months ago:
damn! did it make a hole? bits errywhere? got a pic?
- Comment on [deleted] 11 months ago:
honestly? nothing whatsoever. I see a lot of censorship on lemmy, particularly in the *.ml instances.
- Comment on Why does it seem like women are more wont to make noise in sexual situations while men don't? 11 months ago:
gonna agree with conditioning - we’ve been indoctrinated (by society) to behave in certain ways - like “men dont cry”, etc (they do). people acting in certain ways in certain situations is normal - and expected. we’ve been programmed to expect it and respond to it.
- Comment on If cannabis gets rescheduled to III, how can it ever get the state - federal differences resolved when it comes to the recreational market? 1 year ago:
the key bit will be whatever federal legislation allows headshops/bodegas to use the banking systems like a normal business would.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 year ago:
software? no restrictions? I’d tell the AGI to jump on the computational lithography bandwagon
- Comment on Would nuclear reactors be feasible everywhere? 1 year ago:
yep. a lot of variance in different configurations of radioisotope thermoelectric generators - anywhere between a few watts to 5kW if they’re designed to be modular. TEG’s are crazy efficient, they just sit there & decay, producing power.
