Markor f-droid.org/en/packages/net.gsantner.markor is great for markdown editing on Android, it wouldn’t be as smooth but perhaps it could be used with Syncthing.
- Comment on LLM's poisoned with sleeper agent backdoors is the latest fun security threat to worry about 2 days ago:
kinda feels like they forgot to add ‘/s’
- Comment on LLM's despite all the flaws it probably made it easier to switch to Linux. 3 days ago:
the difference is that LLMs spit out actual bs quite frequently while forums are usually simply outdated or smth
- Comment on LLM's despite all the flaws it probably made it easier to switch to Linux. 3 days ago:
except that noobs can destroy their systems very easily by following LLM instructions…
- Comment on How on earth do I fix my trackpad? 4 days ago:
try booting windows pe usb (you can make one from linux), this may be a hardware issue.
you can use xinput disable command to disable the trackpad inside x11
- Comment on what is good remote desktop software? 6 days ago:
vnc with tailscale, i prefer this over others like moonlight since it can show non-blurry/original image, especially noticeable for text
- Comment on Are there any reputable cybersecurity experts that I could just email them to ask for free advice? 6 days ago:
don’t ask to ask, just ask
- Comment on If cannibalism were the norm and human meat was freely available in grocery stores, there would surely be people who prefered to eat only the meat of people of their own ethnicity or only women's meat 6 days ago:
how do you even get ideas like this

do they still mandate file hierarchy reconstruction? really want to try this out, but I have years of photos in my own folder structure…
- Comment on How to run programs sandboxed on a work pc 1 week ago:
why not use something web-based? there’s navidrome for self hosting, or plenty of other piracy(?) music streaming sites (which some aren’t sketchy, or safe enough to use with ublock origin)
- Comment on Does university email give you any free server? 1 week ago:
it isn’t ideal but cloudflared is an option if you can’t directly expose ports
- Comment on Who buys crazy expensive "new retro" consoles and why? 1 week ago:
many of the people who were a kid back when those ‘recent’ consoles released are adults now, so it makes sense they want one now that they can afford it i guess.
- Comment on Should I replace my laptop battery, and are third-party batteries safe? 2 weeks ago:
third party batteries are generally ok, but would probably degrade faster than official asus ones.
it would be better for battery health if you keep it on 30~80% range and not drain it till 0%/charge till 100%
- Comment on A new look for Snikket on Android 2 weeks ago:
tbh i prefer the older design. seems like this is based on conversations.im?
- Comment on How much RAM is in your average EV car, and is it DDR5? 2 weeks ago:
RAM+NAND is really useless, like I can say my old laptop is 128.5GB RAM+NAND and it has 512MB ram with 128GB SSD
- Comment on Do old people still remember their childhood? Do people just start losing their memories and their sense of self as they get older? 2 weeks ago:
as long as you keep it safe i still think it’s better than not having one though. it’s much easier to manipulate memory when there’s nothing to compare/verify against. tho, the journal being leaked or modified is a big issue, maybe a git repo inside some encrypted drive would do…
- Comment on Do old people still remember their childhood? Do people just start losing their memories and their sense of self as they get older? 2 weeks ago:
it seems like they mostly remember the ‘vibe’ along with some hazy memories. kinda unrelated to OP but my grandparents started showing me AI generated pics/vids claming it’s “just like his childhood”…
- Comment on I made a self-hostable frontend for instagram. 2 weeks ago:
awesome! i hope this stays around.
would be nice if it also saved/archived everything it downloads from instagram and sends it to the internet archive

- Comment on Android 11 is the "Windows 7" of Android 3 weeks ago:
I mean you can say it’s “insecure” since Google stopped providing security patches. I don’t really care much tho, I don’t keep confidential stuff on my phone, I’m not that much of a valuable target and I’ll be pwned anyway if I get targeted due to bad opsec. I’d say my phone running Android 11 with root and everything is much more “private” than most normal Android 16 phones since I have stuff like AdAway and AfWall. Android 11 still works for most apps, I’ve never seen anything not supported.
- Comment on Android 11 is the "Windows 7" of Android 3 weeks ago:
tbh JB 4.1~4.3 was the best. Had real performance improvements over ICS (project butter), KK had some weird stuff like the new sdcard policy.
wish i can still use it, but even firefox ditched support so…
- Comment on Android 11 is the "Windows 7" of Android 3 weeks ago:
android 11 is more like win10, it has lots of built in bs that can mostly be mitigated. i’d say win7 = android 7~8, and 4.1~4.4 for xp…
i’m still rocking android 11, never upgrading… hopefully i can switch to a linux phone before this gets unusable
