I’d say this is actually a good thing…
- Comment on What are the privacy risks of exposing IP adresses? 6 days ago:
probably because of CGNAT or torrent trackers reporting fake stuff. Usually when the first seen and last seen equals it’s the latter, otherwise it’s the former. It’s pretty accurate for me…
- Comment on What are the privacy risks of exposing IP adresses? 1 week ago:
it could enable targeted attacks. just use a vpn if you can afford one.
- Comment on How would I repurpose a work laptop? 2 weeks ago:
Make sure to not have AMT or Computrace, just use linux/bsd instead of windows just to be sure.

- Comment on Why don't more people use Bilibili instead of YouTube? 2 weeks ago:

- Comment on Why was file search much faster in Windows XP than in subsequent versions? 2 weeks ago:
the ui was dogshit but it was extremely lightweight and fast on my potato with 512mb ram and 60gb ide hdd.
- Comment on What is this clock icon in my phone status bar? 2 weeks ago:
i noticed i get this with scheduled jobs in tasker too. seems like they all use android’s alarm system for these sorta things
- Comment on There is no such thing as truly objective YouTube search results 2 weeks ago:
i tend to use video.google.com on vpn or invidious to search, seems to work pretty well
- Comment on Dead OS Walking: 30 Days on Windows XP in 2025 — fireborn 3 weeks ago:
Ever since Supermium/Mypal68 came XP is 100% usable albeit insecure. Runs MS Office 2010 and OpenOffice so there’s no issue with document compatibility too.

2k bookmarks? i would just automate the process of saving each of them locally and just forget it lol. if it’s somehow needed later search on the older archive
- Comment on Did YouTube just disable video playback for people using adblockers or is it just me? 5 weeks ago:
seems to work for me rn but youtube’s web ui has been extremely slow for the past few years. videos take more than 15 secs to load and start… to the point where running a terminal and doing yt-dlp & mpv is much quicker/easier.
- Comment on Commodore shocks retro TechTuber with option to buy 'the whole company' 5 weeks ago:
do they have anything left except the branding…?
- Comment on TubeArchivist alternatives that store data in an archive friendly manner? 5 weeks ago:
i just use yt-dlp with a config that stores all metadata. seems to work fine… but its kinda hassle to find what you need among all downloaded stuff
- Comment on A WYSIWYG editor for personal website? 1 month ago:
seamonkey’s a direct descendant of netscape communicator and still includes a wysiwyg editor. it’s pretty good for basic stuff.

highly doubt it, but i’ve seen some similar cases…

- Comment on My two cent about emails servers field. Over a two decades... 1 month ago:
email does still seem like the least bad way of receiving stuff from corpos though. I’d rather get emails than whatsapp messages or nonfree apps’ push notification.

I’m from an East Asian country. :) Pretty sure I’m almost the only one tho…
- Comment on Other than a faulty charging port, is there any reason to use a wireless phone charger over wired? 3 months ago:
It makes the phone harder to use, which is ironically useful to some. tbh I don’t understand lol

You can always help overseas where you’re safer.
- Comment on Best Beige P/S2 keyboard and mouse for retro gaming build? 4 months ago:
The best one is the one you can obtain easily tbh. Old mechanical keyboards from back then are usually pretty good, but looking for a specific model is usually hard.

btw, does anyone else notice difference in old.lemmy.sdf.org? I’m not sure if it’s an issue on my side but the behavior seems to slightly differ. The right sidebar (Create post/community info) disappears when I resize my window to be narrower and there’s a yellow "Support for this instance is greatly appreciated at sdf.org/support" I don’t remember seeing before…
