They’re especially loud here because Lemmy’s developers are tankies. Some are even supposedly former Chapo Trap House peeps that got kicked off reddit. It’s the most annoying part of this place trying to be a reddit replacement. But it’s getting better with users calling them out.
- Comment on US to impose tariffs on Chinese EVs next week 1 month ago:
Sure dumbass. Way to discount all the labor wins the UAW has fought for recently.
- Comment on US to impose tariffs on Chinese EVs next week 1 month ago:
They won’t because part of it is slave labor.
- Comment on US to impose tariffs on Chinese EVs next week 1 month ago:
Now this I can get behind. We should fight back by subsidization of production as heavily as China is theirs.
- Comment on US to impose tariffs on Chinese EVs next week 1 month ago:
That $10k Chinese car cost $20k to make. A competitor undercutting the market that much leads to monopolization. When that competitor is being bankrolled by a foreign government it’s potentially even a hostile act.
People have been mad for decades about what Walmart did to retail in the US. Taking steps to prevent that from also happening with the auto industry should be appreciated.
- Comment on Whistleblower Josh Dean of Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems has died 1 month ago:
This sounds almost exactly like what happened to a colleague of mine last year. Guy aspirated some food. Lead to an infection. Turned into pneumonia. Died.
All that happened within 1 week.
- Comment on All three remastered Mass Effect games and their DLC are 90% off on Steam 1 month ago:
I’ve been sailing for their games and Ubisoft for years. Ubisoft’s PC launch of AC2 was so bad I’ve refused to buy anything that requires Uplay.
There were tons of people (myself included) who couldn’t play AC2 for 3 weeks at launch because Uplay account issues. Then it required you to be online to save progress. But their own servers kept going down without warning or any kind of indication. I played the opening couple hours of AC2 at least 3 times because of my saves being lost. Which at that point was a month after release. And I gave up. Never finished.
So fuck EA and Ubisoft. The alternative options to acquire their games end up being the better user experience.
- Comment on All three remastered Mass Effect games and their DLC are 90% off on Steam 1 month ago:
They did. But they all still need Origin. After you launch through Steam you get kicked over to Origin to also login there.
- Comment on All three remastered Mass Effect games and their DLC are 90% off on Steam 1 month ago:
Yes. That’s why I’m still not buying EA games to this day. Or Ubisoft for that matter.

Yep. They’re having engine issues lately. But it’s easy clicks for the news to shit on Boeing right now.

Harris appointments a new VP. Majority of Congress has to approve that appointment.
Check out Article 25 of the Constitution for more details.

- Comment on Tech companies like Google and Meta made cuts to DEI programs in 2023 after big promises in prior years 6 months ago:
Hardly. Statistics show very little regarding accomplishments. And in some cases have led to regression because the programs are poorly designed.
And that poor design is on purpose. They often push responsibility on the workers. Who have no agency to bring about actual change. While insulating owners/executives from lawsuits.
- Comment on Tech companies like Google and Meta made cuts to DEI programs in 2023 after big promises in prior years 6 months ago:
Good. Hopefully people start realizing these programs do nothing. And that corporations only started them to help reduce lawsuits.
They were never started so workers could create real change from within. Curtailing them might help people finally see what they needed all along was collective bargaining.
The ownership class is fine with giving people the opportunity to talk. Talk is cheap. But they shit their pants if we stand together and unionize.
- Comment on Study shows Tesla owners have most car accidents, but Ram has the worst drivers 6 months ago:
Tires moreso than brakes. Ultra low rolling resistance tires help increase range. But they’re crap for high acceleration/deceleration. Not sticky enough (by design) to work in those situations.
- Comment on VW Is Putting Buttons Back in Cars Because People Complained Enough 6 months ago:
VAG is common shorthanded for Volkswagen AG en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group
- Comment on VW Is Putting Buttons Back in Cars Because People Complained Enough 6 months ago:
That’s not true though. This happened in their EVs regardless of price range. Even the Porsche Taycan which requires using a screen to adjust HVAC vents. Other than some steering wheel buttons the Taycan is all screens.
The Audi E-Tron GT (same chassis as the Taycan) oddly enough has more buttons. But that’s because VAG makes sure Porsche and Audi interiors are slightly different for different market segments.
It’s more about VAG thinking (like many automakers) copying the Tesla trend was what people wanted. The mistake made was not considering Tesla early adopters often being techy people who might not match broader market opinion.
- Comment on VW Is Putting Buttons Back in Cars Because People Complained Enough 6 months ago:
VW really actually does care a lot. It’s just early market data on EVs (because Tesla cheaped out) pointed to people liking the screens. Now that ordinary people are going EV there is a lot more feedback available on this being a bad idea.
- Comment on Here as well 6 months ago:
I’m 6’4" 210. Considered overweight per BMI chart. I do not have dad bod.
Fit people with the obese designation as you say being a fluke is true. Because you have to be massive to hit that. I’d need to put on another 35 lbs to reach it. Which I’m not interested in. I just want to be healthy. Not swole.
So I agree with your point on obese range. The common criticism comes from there being many more people like me who hit the overweight range. But I don’t know anyone in my fitness pals group who cares after laughing it off the first time.
- Comment on Here as well 6 months ago:
I’ve technically gone down from XL. Seems L often fit me better now. But I’ve not changed.
Seems like sizes have shifted higher. Only evidence I have for this are souvenir t-shirts from 20 years ago that say XL. Which are roughly same size as L shirts I’ve bought recently.

It’s not obvious unfortunately. Otherwise I wouldn’t bother.
People have been repeating versions of this same post across social media for weeks. With common replies asking why the IRS isn’t doing anything about it.
- Comment on Different social class different rules 6 months ago:
So about my prior comment on ignorance of the government. Congress owns making penalties happen. As stated, this post suggests it’s the IRS not doing their job.
You’re welcome to come up with an alternative interpretation of what’s plainly stated. But we can do better than misrepresenting the issues this post does a crappy job of bringing up.
