yooooo mopidy is an awesome server to feed MPD and you were correct about MPD being able to run on this device!

i didn’t care about just grabbing the 720p 600mb video file back when i was watching on a little laptop screen.
it does not hold up on the big stuff.
kinda same applies to audio?
crap sounds like crap on a phone speaker, but so does hi quality stuff.
noise and low dynamics are more noticeable on more powerful, louder gear.
just spitballing here, not an expert!

i spun up a snikket instance, with a domain and caddy, all that jazz.
the chat is really just about perfect.
we use the conversations xmpp app, and the only issue is that our phones don’t really see that app as a respectable calling app. the phones let other sounds play over the call, like GPS voices, or if a regular call comes in while we’re on a call, it hijacks the audio system until we decline or answer.
Otherwise it’s been pretty sweet!

I was truenas on bare metal for the first year or so, but now I run a truenas VM in proxmox, then use those pools as mounts onto the proxmox. it is really cool!
Until I was in the middle of figuring out how to automate backups of my vms, which paused TrueNas, which was the destination of the backup, was a fun 20 minutes getting it all back running this evening lol

this is great! i was intrigued by nix and nixOS early into my linux venture and this has probably pushed me to start moving my stuff from Debian, though i am kinda addicted to proxmox.
but the way you’re doing truenas is how I’m running my stuff too. way more planning on your end really cleans it all up!
- Comment on Best plex/jellyfin compatible streaming box 2 weeks ago:
well it’s really developed to be a 10ft interface, so yeah the touch controls aren’t ideal. handles just the same as ot does on TV, on a phone with a remote or game controller though?
i just use the individual streaming apps on the phone if it’s in my hands.
the OP asked for a device recommendation, My point was that it can be any device that runs the same program that works easily from the TV.
all these windows 10 PC’s going in the dumpster soon could be given a new life with LibreELEC.
but i am curious though, are there other single apps on phone that work better with local media and streaming services?

i got ratioed for my love for kodi 😅😭
- Comment on Best plex/jellyfin compatible streaming box 2 weeks ago:
with a jellyfin/emby addon heck yeah!!
also they could all be set up to to use the same DB
- Comment on Best plex/jellyfin compatible streaming box 2 weeks ago:
kodi.
kodi kodi kodi.
kodi on everything, headless kodi, kodi on phone, on linux computer, LibreELEC on an old chromebook,
addons for other streaming services, for immich, for subsonic music, jellyfin and emby.
so much more also.
customize the gui to your hearts extent, or just fall in love with every piece of media in your ecosystem easily visible in a unified interface that works with remotes, game controllers, air mouse. keyboard. App on phone, web interface from another machine
once you get the first one perfected, back it up and immediately have it on the next machine.
YouTube is a little bit of a bitch but there’s ways around that sometimes

what is your favorite app for android?
we like conversations, but our phones don’t treat it like a regular calling app. navigation and music still play over the conversation phone call.

I’m hesitant to ask because I’m running pangolin also, but why are there downvotes here? did i miss something about pangolin?
- Comment on How big is your media library? 4 weeks ago:
i settled on gonic via docker, for now, with jukebox mode controlled from dsub2000, as the device I’m using as the server is an old autonomic mms2a running debian. (not enough horsepower to run a full DE so it needs to be remotely controllable)
i just about drove myself crazy trying every single version of any subsonic related server and client, jellyfin (still running) ampache, mopidy with plugins, addons for kodi, various MPD iterations and control points, including trying to drive it from home assistant.
i am not sure if I’m completely happy with my setup, but with vpn, i can listen on the phone anywhere, make playlists that are immediately visible on the machine that can play to my speakers in the house (driven off of a matrixing amplifier)
i am giving my brain a rest before i try to look into snapcast
