what is your favorite app for android?
we like conversations, but our phones don’t treat it like a regular calling app. navigation and music still play over the conversation phone call.

i settled on gonic via docker, for now, with jukebox mode controlled from dsub2000, as the device I’m using as the server is an old autonomic mms2a running debian. (not enough horsepower to run a full DE so it needs to be remotely controllable)
i just about drove myself crazy trying every single version of any subsonic related server and client, jellyfin (still running) ampache, mopidy with plugins, addons for kodi, various MPD iterations and control points, including trying to drive it from home assistant.
i am not sure if I’m completely happy with my setup, but with vpn, i can listen on the phone anywhere, make playlists that are immediately visible on the machine that can play to my speakers in the house (driven off of a matrixing amplifier)
i am giving my brain a rest before i try to look into snapcast

oh lawd i am glad to meet another out in the wild!
i was fortunate to start with residential alarm and A/V. due to a talent vacuum, leapfrogged to control system programmer/service, which allowed a few forks in the road (service manager, project manager and sales,) before bringing me back to my primary passion in this industry, AV programming and design.
but yeah I’ve installed my fair share of alarm panels, access control, thousands of camera systems.
but most of my shit has been fixing old rich people’s wifi and kids/grandkids AV

when i first saw and played with music assistant i was absolutely amazed for a bit. the ability to sling tunes to any device that can be seen on the network with all metadata available on a home assistant (adjacent) dashboard? sign me up! i was thrilled at the audiobook/podcast support as well. able to tie in tidal and local music with announcement capabilities… just awesome!
i can’t remember the exact reason why but it didn’t quite work perfectly for me, as far as “checking all the boxes”
the companion app wasn’t quite designed to be a music source and would stop playing if screen was locked for a few seconds? on webpage it is like, constantly spamming KDE connect to continue playing, even when sending to another device.
i am following music assistant for sure though!

if you can, don’t be afraid to pull some wires! i come from a low-voltage background, and am getting ready to run some cabling for distributed audio.
found some old control4 gear that can be controlled directly from Home Assistant, no control4 processor required!

Howdy Fellow Emby user!
i did like using emby for music and podcasts, but i was always perturbed by having to dig through the emby app to get to music. i tried using a different profile for music only but then got annoyed at having to swap back and forth.
so at the crib, are you airplaying from your phone? what’s your audio pipeline look like?
