- Comment on What non-IDE tekst editor do you use? 1 year ago:
Neovim can can certainly be an IDE, but its complexity comes from having a lot of features to rapidly edit text. d5d deletes 5 lines, vwwy selects two words and yanks them, gg returns to the beginning of the file, etc. It’ll maybe do some code highlighting out of the box but its featureset is about never needing to touch a mouse or leave home row.
It’s about like notepad++ on Windows in that it’s very good for quick edits of a file or otherwise manipulating plaintext but it isn’t good out of the box for actual writing meant to be read by other human beings.

They have always had their own platforms, using forum software and the like. They will use any free software regular people will use. They always had their own isolated corners of the internet.
So then the question is whether these people would cease to be nazis or pedophiles if only they interacted with “normal” people. Decades of that mindset have gone by and the answer is “no.” They want tu be in normie spaces to convince others, they’re not going to deradicalize like that. Deradicalization is hard, time consuming for volunteers, and rare, as well as rarely complete. And even if it were effective, it is unethical to demand the people they target be the ones to deradicalize them. Nobody here signed an agreement to be a nazi pedo’s unpaid therapist.

The entire model of federation is shunning. We are shunning them by defederating. We don’t have to interact with them. You don’t have to interact with them. You don’t have to interact with us, and in fact you could decide to go join the pedos and nazis and nazi pedos on their instances. You won’t, but on a technical level there is no central content moderator for all of the fediverse, only instances practicing free association and maybe cooperating to make that process easier.
But since you lack the authority to make us interact with those groups, you’re left having to choose who you’ll keep company with, and that’ll have consequences as people don’t like nazi or pedo apologists.

Not relying on legalistic justifications, for one. Legality is a constraint of whoever the host would be arrested by. It’s not a substitute for having your own standards. You shouldn’t need a legal justification to ban pedos or nazis, no matter where you live. We can’t stop them from making their own online spaces, but we are not obligated to share our spaces worf l with them.

Have you tried a harness? Some cats that demand to be outside seem to be satiated with walks.

TNR works, as feral cats often cannot be adopted past a certain age, they just won’t let humans near them willingly. But there isn’t a need to kill cats for not wanting to be adopted, they can be fed and over time their population can be dramatically reduced, it just requires actual commitment to the program and free access to spay and neutering services to the public.

TNR works absolutely fine at reducing feral cat populations. The issue is not that people are not killing enough cats, it’s that getting a cat spayed or neutered can be expensive and therefore inaccessible to a lot of people, and a lot of dickhead liberals just expect poor people to not have pets if they can’t keep $10,000 USD in the bank at all times to cover emergency vet expenses (legit shit you’ll see bandied around as advice for “responsible” owners). An effective response would be offering free spay, neuter, and chip services for all pets, alongside people keeping their pets indoors, and maybe offering stuff like pine litter for free to address some reasons why people might want their cat to be outside.

Outdoors is dangerous for cats anyways. There is a reason indoor cats live longer, there are predators and cars outside. Cats can be perfectly happy indoors.
If your cat likes being outside, you can either grab some lumber and chicken wire to make a catio or just get a cat harness and leash. Yeah, there is a chance a cat can escape from the latter if it’s not properly sized and secured, but once in a while an indoor cat getting loose is much better than having many outdoor cats outside most of the time hunting random fauna.
