Yep that’s I read from 2023.
He responded in a couple of blog posts:
I opened up the discord community just now to see what was there, and I just saw people being goofy and talking shit to each other. In all fairness, I wouldn’t hang out there either, but that doesn’t mean anything.
To summarize, I don’t see the Hyprland devs trying to harm others. Folks like DHH are a different story. Of course this might all change tomorrow - who knows?

I’m ok with those things too. I just recently found out about all the crazy stuff after the rubygems takeover. I’m not really a ruby fan, but that seemed pretty shady.

DHH is clearly a turd, and I want nothing to do with his projects.
I’m not sure I understand the opposition to Hyprland though. I enjoy using Hyprland, so I’ve tried to make an informed opinion on whether the project is harmful. Note that I have only reviewed public information, so I might only be seeing the tip of the iceberg.
According to his blog posts, the creator of Hyprland seems to have received criticism well enough (back in 2023). Are other people in the community the main concern or am I missing something? Forgive my ignorance

I find the bit about believing the lies we’re fed as somewhat naive. We’re all on a journey, and everyone starts in a different place, with unique foundations.
My current opinions vary wildly from those held 20 years ago. Change is a good thing, and I think it should be expected as the norm.

They’ve heard that whole pot and kettle thing, right?

I agree with that!

I disagree. The online advertising industry needs to shrink, and we should probably break up the monopolies.
Look at this chart:
U.S. online advertising revenue from 2000 to 2024
Growth of advertising correlates with enshittification.

Driving a manual is pretty easy, but it depends on how you handle failure. The learning process requires making a few mistakes while you become familiar with a clutch and shifting gears.
Also, I think it’s much easier to learn if you know what the parts are doing. Watch some videos on how it all works and what different RPMs sound like.

Well said and thanks for expanding on the topic. It’s great to get more information out there and give others extra perspective.
I find Haskell fascinating too - it really changes your expectations of programming languages!

I’m not interested in arguing. You’re welcome to your opinion as well.
Multiple individuals noted the value of diving into non-GUI server administration, and I wanted to share a tool that could be of interest down the road.

😄 Sometimes it’s hard to remember the differential

The learning curve might be a little high in some regards, but you may want to try NixOS. There are quite a few services ready to enable and customize for self-hosting, and the design makes updating packages fairly simple.
To be clear, NixOS is not a “simple” solution, but it does work well for self hosting.

I wouldn’t think so. Rock is expensive and would only last so long. Grass helps sustain an ecosystem while preventing erosion.

I’m not sure. While it’s not for me, I know some rather bright individuals that enjoy the format.
I mostly hate that it’s such an advertising industry.
