- Comment on Elon Musk’s X is now worth less than a quarter of its $44 billion purchase price 1 month ago:
Just because it’s not publicly traded, doesn’t mean that there isn’t stock nor that there’s no market. Usually, you can technically still buy/sell the stock, just not as a random member of the public on a public stock exchange like the NYSE or FTSE.

Yeah, that time is even moreso now because cars are far more complex and expensive as fuck now. Just the HVAC system alone on a modern luxury car probably has more components than the entirety of my old 1972 MG. You can bet your ass my friends find it very valuable when I can quickly fix stuff on their cars a dealership wanted to charge $1200 for.
- Comment on Samsung TVs will get 7 years of updates, starting with 2023 models 2 months ago:
At least on my TV, I’ve had firmware updates enable things like variable refresh rate, enable 4K/120Hz, improve the dynamic contrast performance, and fix a couple of weird bugs it had shipped with.
- Comment on Ecovacs home robots can be hacked to spy on their owners, researchers say 3 months ago:
The good news with iRobot is that they actually have pretty solid cybersecurity. They also do a pretty great job of supporting parts for old robots and make them quite easy to repair. For a typical consumer product, I feel like they’re far better than most companies in terms of how shitty they could be vs how shitty they actually are.
- Comment on Samsung delivers 600-mile solid-state EV battery as it teases 9-minute charging and 20-year lifespan tech 3 months ago:
I have a 150mi EV and a PHEV. I won’t be bothering with another PHEV, unless I need something that can tow long distances. Every long distance trip I’ve taken in our PHEV since ~2020 would have been almost identical to a trip in an EV. Drive about 3 hours, and stop for 20 minutes for food/restroom, and back on the road. Even with our PHEV, which can do over 600mi on a tank, we were naturally stopping at almost the exact same points as I would when I planned out the same route in an EV.
As minimal as it is in a modern car, dealing with the ICE side of it just isn’t worth it in a daily driver from my perspective. I have an old classic that’s ICE, and if I’m going to be doing oil changes and such, I’d much rather do them for fun on that, than be required to on my commuter.
- Comment on Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe says too many carmakers are copying Tesla 3 months ago:
Unfortunately, it’s pretty true at least internally, though their dumpster fire reputation is changing that. I’ve worked at a number of Tier 1 automotive suppliers and OEMs, and I can’t even tell you the number of times I’ve had to listen to “We should do ‘thing’ because that’s what Tesla does”. It’s leading to a lot of shitty and anti-consumer practices, but fortunately I think some of the smarter leadership is finally seeing that they were shitty ideas all along, and was nothing more that techbro bullahit.

As someone who’s extremely left leaning, it’s so goddamn infuriating, because there are so many pro-gun Dem leaning voters that wind up voting ® down the ticket, almost solely because the Democratic candidate went on an idiotic speech about AK-15s and their 30 caliber per second clipazines. It’s not like the anti-gun Dems they’re pandering to are going to vote Republican because the Democratic candidate said nothing about guns during their campaign.
It’s literally one single issue that the Dems could just not say a word about. Literally, no work involved. No campaigning, canvassing, or fundraising. Just don’t bring it up, and it would massively improve their odds in some of the most critical swing states. But no, they just have to virtue signal to the areas that are basically ultramarine blue, and it fucks them over every goddamn time.
- Comment on Elon Musk says SpaceX HQ officially moving to Texas, blames new CA trans student privacy law 4 months ago:
Knowing many people who’ve worked for him, you have about 6 months at a MuskCo brand company max before you really know what a piece of shit he is, and either a.) leave ASAP, b.) convince yourself it won’t be so bad and hang on for ~2 years, or c.) fall into the cult of personality and believe that Daddy Elon loves his little proles and cares very much about all the hard work you’re doing [EMPLOYEE NUMBER HERE].
The absolute last stop on the “Musk is Tony Stark but IRL epic gamer Redditor and likes weed and Rick and Morty!” train was when he called that cave diver a pedophile. It was apparent well before then, but anyone acting like they had no idea what a piece of shit he was after that either didn’t hear about it, or was willfully ignorant because they wanted to continue pretending that basing their entire personality around a billionaire wasn’t a terrible idea.
- Comment on Tesla’s Share of U.S. Electric Car Market Falls Below 50% 4 months ago:
I assume you’re probably thinking of all the “pre orders” they supposedly had. However, the take rate of zero-commitment “pre-orders” from 5 years ago for a product that was 50% cheaper with significantly better specs has been pretty low, especially given that far better vehicles have become available since it was announced.

- Comment on Tesla is recalling its Cybertruck for the fourth time to fix problems with trim pieces that can come loose and front windshield wipers that can fail | The new recalls each affect over 11,000 trucks 4 months ago:
“Backorder” meant “Idiots with a couple hundred dollars”. “Orders” were a whole $100 fully refundable deposit. It was a complete non-commitment, and I know a ton of people who literally bought them solely to resell their “spot in line”.
I knew a dude who put in an order for 5, just to ensure he could sell his “spots on the list”. Dude was a service tech that couldn’t afford even the fake $40k price, let alone the current $100k price. I’ve seen tons of stories like his as well, so there’s a 0% chance even 20% of those are actually converting to sales.
- Comment on Elon Musk laid off the Tesla Supercharger team; now he’s rehiring them 6 months ago:
I can tell you, knowing people who worked with the guy since the original launch of the Model S, he’s always been like this. He’s always been a loud mouthed idiot, and he’s always been insanely unpredictable. The only thing that changed has been his PR team and personal handlers, and how much the news media is willing to focus on how much of a POS the dude is.
- Comment on Ordered back to the office, top tech talent left instead, study finds 6 months ago:
I’ve been hybrid even during COVID, because sometimes I have to go in and test, but recently there’s been a mandatory RTO push, and it’s absolutely absurd thinking about all the work I could be doing between getting ready to head out the door and getting to the office. It’s straight up 2+ hours of wasted productivity any day I could have been WFH but decide to go into the office.
We even had people showing hard data their teams are less productive in-office, but I shit you not, management just said “They feel like it’ll be better”. Literally managing based on feelings > facts, which I’m sure our shareholders would love if they found out.
- Comment on Ordered back to the office, top tech talent left instead, study finds 6 months ago:
Because while you’re commuting, that’s effectively “company time” you’re not getting paid for. If you work 8 hours a day and your commute is half an hour each way, then you’re taking 9, not 8 hours a day out of your schedule for work. That’s an extra ~250 hours a year you’re taking out of your own time for work, whereas with an “instant commute” WFH, the moment you logoff becomes personal time again.

- Comment on It must confuse English learners to hear phrases like, "I'm home", instead of "I am at home." We don't say I'm school, or I'm post office. 6 months ago:
It’s so funny because whereas a lot of other languages have rules with defined exceptions here and there, speaking English is more of a theoretical approach.
I feel like this also makes it useful in that you can butcher the hell out of it, and still communicate somewhat effectively. I don’t feel that’s the case in some other languages, or maybe I’m willing to put up with my colleague’s broken English far more than they’re willing to put up with my broken German/Spanish/etc.
- Comment on Tesla’s in its flop era 6 months ago:
Musk also owns the board, and they all know if he goes down, they’re going with him. They know he’s an idiot, but he’s wormed his way into every facet of the company.
It’s why they allowed him to buy a company that was weeks away from bankruptcy (Solar City) for a huge premium using Tesla funds despite it being very likely to bankrupt Tesla itself.
It’s why they allowed him to stay in his position, despite being sanctioned by the SEC for lying about taking the company private (at $420 because lol weed number) to pump the stock.
It’s why they’re pushing for his absurd $58bn pay package to be retroactively instated, even though the company just had an absolutely abysmal financial quarter.
Make no mistake looking at the official org chart. The board consists of Elon Musk, E. Musk, E. R. Musk, and Musk, Elon R. Any other names are merely a formality and entirely beholden to his whims. The only way Elon leaves Tesla is either in handcuffs or on a stretcher.

Because it grabs attention and sounds scary, which really what media outlets care about. My other favorite is when they talk about someone having being caught with “hundreds of rounds of ammunition”, which clearly indicates that’s how many people they were planning on murdering, and isn’t just a pretty typical range day, or in the case of reallly common stuff like 9mm, 22LR, or even 223, can literally be a single box of ammo.

But that really makes no sense. Unless you have them all set up in a row pointed exactly where you want, you’re probably not even saving half a second vs reloading. The old “switching is faster than reloading” thing doesn’t apply nearly as much when you’re at a static position and can have all your mags out in the open at arm’s reach.
- Comment on YSK: it's not just Tesla, 1/3 of cars in built in the last ten years have passenger/rear windows that are almost impossible to break in an emergency. 8 months ago:
One pedal braking makes this a bit tricky for people who are not used to it and/or panicking. You spend decades of your life having a seperate “go” and “stop” pedal, and then suddenly they’re the same one. You have your foot over the accelerator, lift a bit and feel the deceleration as if you’re pressing the brake.
Suddenly, something darts behind you, and your brain says “I’m feeling deceleration, so your foot is on the pedal that stops things” and you slam on it like you would the brake pedal. I’ve done it with the clutch/brake after hopping back and forth between a manual and automatic a few dozen times after a very long day of vehicle testing. Muscle memory is a powerful thing and your brain’s mental model of the world is not always correct.

It’s not instant, but I definitely get very sleepy after orgasm a lot of the time. Like, out within 1-2min max. But I can also fall asleep basically anywhere at any time if I want to. I think it’s just a family trait, because both of my parents can do it, and I’ve been checked for apnea, narcolepsy, etc. Some people can just fall asleep quickly
