Me, upon seeing the response: Hahahaha! Man that was fast. Dude always has the perfect reply ready.
5 minutes later: tries to squint through Klingon makeup 🤔
One trip to IMDB and Memory Alpha later: ...holy shit.
The next day: I should post a reply.
Now: We're in now now.

This is why I'm doomed.

You know what worked for me? Getting passably good at singing the Bowie parts. It's like the parts that want to get stuck are in opposition with the Bowie parts and there's some mental tussling then suddenly the song is over and you're free.
It also works well confusing the shit out of people at parties who all want to sing along yet seemingly never got the memo that the song is a duet.

Congrats! It's good to see some Zelda II love. It took me years to beat this as a kid, and you bet your ass I got some tips from Nintendo Power lol. To this day it's still one of my favorite NES games.

- Comment on Black Friday not the cheapest time to shop, says consumer group 11 months ago:
I got bit by this earlier in the year. I needed a smaller TV for the bedroom. I narrowed down the line I wanted. Target and Best Buy were the only two local stores to carry it. BB had the 2023 model, Target had a 2022 model with a sub-designation that was $50 cheaper. I went with Target because I didn't care if it was an older model, just needed something good enough. Well, it wasn't good enough, not even close. The color accuracy was so bad that the tint adjustment was useless — it was both too pink and too green no matter what. I dug out my old calibration disk and tried to adjust the color by isolating red/green/blue channels. The best-effort adjustments made it better, but still awful. I even connected it to the network (hardwire only, fuck "smart" appliances) just in case a firmware update helped. It did not, so back it went. Had to wait, multiple times in line and for someone to pull from the back, for like 45 minutes because they "don't do exchanges" so I needed to do a song and dance to get the sale price on a replacement purchase. Got the replacement home, same deal.
Took it back and went to Best Buy. Spent the extra $50. Perfect color out of the box. Lesson(s) learned.

- Comment on It is interesting to see what ads play during certain content… 1 year ago:
All it takes is watching a few home improvement videos on YT to start the idiot ads rolling: bots reading screen text a la TikTok that boil down to "Doctors HATE this one trick!" nonsense. I'm never sure if the knowledge gained from the video is worth the brain cells lost to the ad.

It will be painful and slow, but I appreciate the support lol. I've got a lot of catching up to do myself, as stuff got in the way of consistently watching DS9 and even getting into Voyager (being a teenager), Enterprise (being an adult on night shift), and any of the streaming stuff (being an adult both burnt out on streaming subscriptions and way behind in the lore). It makes sense to go through things together with her, but... yeah only watching like 3 episodes a week is excruciating lol. Especially since I am a natural born binge-watcher.
- Comment on The true generational thread 1 year ago:
...I have no idea if I'm looking at an actual show clip or a very well made fan thing. All I know is that I need to watch Lower Decks. But it's also something that my SO would appreciate, and it's hard enough to make time to get through TNG (her first Trek). Gah!
- Comment on Brass Instruments 1 year ago:
I'm with you. I don't like the default Lemmy UI at all, but it's the most feature-complete as far as I can tell. I was a longtime Apollo user, so while Voyager feels similar at first glance it's mostly skin-deep. Kbin really does a great job with the look and feel, but there are a lot of frustrating bugs. I believe the dev has Been Going Through Some Shit (per his posts in kbinMeta) and I do not begrudge him taking care of personal life before a side project that blew up over the summer. So the result is that I mostly browse with kbin and switch to Lemmy if I need to do more than a text reply.
- Comment on Brass Instruments 1 year ago:
Hello fellow kbin enjoyer! In case you were unaware, in-line kbin images only show in kbin for some reason. Kinda like how we get links in place of in-line Lemmy images, except Lemmy users don't even see the links (at least not in the default mobile web UI or Voyager app). To get around it, I will either copy and paste the image URL in a comment edit, or just make the reply from a Lemmy account.
Now I'm wondering if the desktop interfaces work differently.

Who educated them?
I think the most common answer for this topic would be, "No one, really." Except maybe energy marketing/ads. You know, the folks that brought us "clean coal" and "fracking is totally safe and will definitely not bork your groundwater."
- Comment on Why do many folks play follow the leader even into adulthood? 1 year ago:
A perfect example is this guy from my last job. Thought himself a leader. Thought himself knowledgeable. Always had an answer, regardless of actual facts. Alternated between barking out orders and lamenting on how he had to do everything himself. Constantly getting schooled by people who actually knew the subject matter. Those who had been around just kinda put up with his BS because he filled a position that nobody else wanted.
Enter new management, who was very impressed with his authoritative tone, apparent breadth of knowledge, and willingness to lick boot. Suddenly management is bypassing dude's bosses to go straight to the horse's mouth and get the straight dope (which often involved taking credit for other people's work and bus-chucking whoever was handy). All because someone who barely knew what he was talking about spoke confidently to people that had no idea what was going on.

- Comment on Goodbye to more DVDs? Best Buy plans to phase out sales of physical movies in the coming months 1 year ago:
I can’t think of a time in like 20 years that they actually had the thing that I went there to buy.
Like a few folks have mentioned, I bought my last two TVs there. If it sucks or it's a bad panel or I just don't like it, I just box it up and take it back to the store. No wondering if it'll get damaged in shipment or ganked off the porch (or take a day off and hope it's delivered when it's supposed to be).
They're also really good with getting in amiibo, but that's a super niche thing.
