- Comment on 'My Advice to Users Is to Accept Reality and Tune, or to Not Play' — Randy Pitchford Is at the 'Get a Refund From Steam' Stage of the Borderlands 4 PC Performance Backlash 18 hours ago:
I’m enjoying the game. And yeah, a lot of cool folk work there. Sure a few suck, but there are a lot of neat humans that poured their heart into this game.
I also haven’t had a single issue on a two year old mid-tier laptop so i can’t empathize with the fuss over performance. I’m sure there are older machines out there that wont run it at 1000FPS or whatever.
At the end of the day, it’s a game. Calm tf down and play something else rather than raise your blood pressure over something so relatively trivial.
Deep breath people. It’s a game. Support it or don’t. Edginess not required for this decision.

MUDs, I think, have a place on this list.

That’s the one, and thanks! My son and I got into Meshtastic as a hobby, and I guess ham radio was the next logical direction for our interest. It’s fun learning the science behind how it works.
- Comment on Radio geeks say you can still get 'lost' DoD hurricane data 1 month ago:
Fun fact! I’m studying for my amateur radio technician license and learned that ham came from calling amateur telegraph operators’ sloppy work ‘ham-fisted’. The amateur radio community decided to lean into it, and thus the ham radio operator was born
- Comment on AI Job Fears Hit Peak Hype While Reality Lags Behind 2 months ago:
I was recently swimming in that thought soup, myself.
In reality, the truth is somewhere in between. Yes, AI is taking real jobs right now, not a speculative future, but so are the economic issues.
There are just so many people suffering. Young and old, there’s not a demographic untouched by it. Plenty of blame to go around, for sure.

Saw this discarded in an Aldi checkout yesterday. It didn’t smell anything like the pickle scent I was expecting it to.

How do I agree 100% with both of these comments…

I’d love to see a future where Starfish has paved the way for less invasive methods of treating various neuro and psychological disorders.
What we’ll likely get is some new type of porn thing.
- Comment on Industrial Light & Magic's Chief Creative Promotes AI Slop During His TED Talk 3 months ago:
Watched the whole thing. He had some valid points, especially where full permission from the talent is concerned. The “field guide” models were pretty uninspired, but they did a good job showcasing what is possible.
I have mixed feelings. Using AI responsibly is the ideal goal, but we have seen that this is largely not going to be the case both now and moving forward.

Understanding the risks is half the battle, but we can only do what we can do.
- Comment on 6* months away now. If you're on 10, do you plan to upgrade? Make the jump to Linux? 5 months ago:
Unless you’re using NVIDIA. Didn’t work out of the box for me and required a couple hours of fiddling. Mint worked seamlessly.

Just wanted to say you’re not alone here; this is the first time I’ve encountered a “laggy” post, and I was also wondering if it’s a boost issue due to all the images.
- Comment on Thoughts on Old World? 6 months ago:
My wife and I play a lot of Civ 5 together. We recently got Old World on sale and have been enjoying it. It’s different from Civ in a lot of refreshing ways, but retains enough of the Civ vibe we really enjoy.

You might just be able to point jellyfin to your media directories and then let it scan them.

That’s true, but from what I’ve seen they haven’t really been a standard in the nodes that folks are building.

Meshtastic is 80% geeky fun hobby, 20% preparedness, and 0% ready to facilitate anything more than simple text messages. Still neat, though.
