5x usage limits (if they last) is the real news here. The current limits make it unusable for any meaningful projects.
- Comment on OpenAI plans to announce Google search competitor on Monday, sources say 1 week ago:
They need to focus back on the base product instead of adding more features. It has been over 1 year and chatgpt using gpt4 is still crippled to the point of being useless.
The last thing I want is a search engine that works 10 times then tells me to come back in 4 hours to resume searching…
- Comment on With two Boeing whistleblowers dead in one month, either Boeing is actively killing them, or there are enough whistleblowers that this rate of death is not statistically significant 1 week ago:
Could it just be that whistleblowing is intensely stressful and difficult (reporters, lawyers, harassment from former coworkers and company fanboys, difficulty finding new employment, etc.) I imagine all of that makes whistleblowers far more susceptible to disease and mental issues.

- Comment on Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu 2nd Season • TSUKIMICHI -Moonlit Fantasy- Season 2 - Episode 17 discussion 2 weeks ago:
Sigh, I’m just now realizing that the whole point was to contrast how Makoto’s students succeed on their own merits vs the purple coats who relied on the goddess.
I mean it was obvious they showed up just to fail and make his students look better, but the meta plot about over reliance on the goddess vs personal effort needed more focus.
Actually that would have helped with the elites in the box as well. Faith in the goddesses protection would explain their calm. Imagine the headmaster telling Makoto off, then the purple coats failing, then the headmaster turning back to Makoto to accept his aid. Really would have helped to push the slowly developing narrative about Makoto standing in as an alternative to the goddess.
- Comment on Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu 2nd Season • TSUKIMICHI -Moonlit Fantasy- Season 2 - Episode 17 discussion 2 weeks ago:
The writing and pacing for the last three episodes has been pretty poor. It really feels like they are dragging things out to fill episodes. And not just the pacing of the plot as a whole but individual scenes. Monsters just appeared and started eating people yet you see various characters just standing around chatting casually. The students are face to face with one and it just sits there calmly while they discuss the situation. One character is given 10 seconds to use a magic arrow, then they discuss their plan for 15 seconds… no sense of urgency, danger, intensity, etc. no emotion.
(I think it would have helped if the show did more to build the students up, especially as individuals, and maybe that’s the case for the source, but for what should be a pivotal scene, I have no idea what that archer girls name is or why she matters.)
We get one cutaway to the demons for some reason, and rather than discuss something relevant to the current episode that would add to the intensity of the moment (e.g. something about the mutants or their plans for the city, or some foreshadowing about that) they discuss the rings we already knew they had and already assumed would be improved on but seemingly have no relevance to the current events.
Logically the rings would have then mattered in the focus story (e.g. being used to keep local authorities from using the goddesses blessing against the monsters), but no, that scene seems to only exist to tease the audience with the real plot while we are forced to sit though whatever this current mess is.

After two downer episodes in a row I’m losing patience with the show. Something about the pacing and story composition just isn’t working for me. Seems like a lot of the focus in the last two episodes was on the students, but the show never really game me a reason to care about them other than their association with Makoto. Meanwhile all the more interesting storylines get teased then showed aside for a predicable tournament arc.
This might end up being one of those shows best watched all at once after the season ends…

After watching this episode, I’m convinced that email was from a cult.

- Comment on Why do Americans measure everything in cups? 5 weeks ago:
Cups, teaspoons, and tablespoons in this context are standardized units of measure. It is very common to find at least one set of measuring cups and spoons in a US kitchen. Scales are uncommon.
I use both. For flour, scales are far, far superior. For sugar, it does not really seem to matter. For small amounts, I suspect my tea/tablespoons might be more accurate than my scale…
Not that accuracy matters that much in a recipe using eggs. Chickens aren’t necessarily known for precision.

- Comment on Akuyaku Reijou Level 99: Watashi wa Ura Boss desu ga Maou de wa Arimasen • Villainess Level 99 - Episode 12 - FINAL 1 month ago:
Yumiella really needs a foil, someone to point out or contrast her power and dorkness. Early on that was everyone, but by the end that roll with the cast generally getting used to her, that role would once fell to Alicia.
LN Alicia reacted the way things in the game should have been. She blamed Yumiella for setting traps in the dungeon because the “real” yumiella would do so. She backstabbed Yumiella’s because the real yumiella was the final boss. With Anime Alicia retconned into a generic kindhearted heroine, that role was lost, and I feel like it made the show dull.
What really bugs me is I think they could made this work better, if only they had used the “will of the game” more. Introduce it early. Have it speak up through Alicia and play more of the role removed from anime Alicia. Better yet, introduce it as a voice in Alicia’s head and do some foreshadowing…

I generally agree but I think it is starting to change. The primary protest votes suggest there is growing “disapproval” regarding Israel, and this is among actual voters. Not enough to make it politically “safe” for Biden to outright oppose Israel now, but it is something.
- Comment on Republican senator renews push to make daylight savings permanent 2 months ago:
That still puts the fringes of a timezone possibly 30 minutes off from the ideal, and that is only the east/west direction. Places further from the equator are more susceptible to seasonal light changes.
Really I think time zones themselves are the problem. Prior to that each locality could adopt a time that worked best for them (horrible for trains and probably not compatible with modern communications tech, but easier on the people.) DST is a problematic patch on a problematic system.
Personally I’d like to see UTC adopted more broadly, at least for travel. Flying to NYC to LA takes 6.5 hours but you gain three hours due to time changes making it effectively 3.5 hours. Whereas flying back takes 5.5 hours but loses 3 to make it 8.5 hours. While I understand that intellectually, I find it hard to grasp intuitively. Just give me UTC and a relative time. Say 1900 (noon) or 1600 (mid morning)
It would also help with people living on either side of a timezone. Just say let’s meet at the restaurant at 500 instead of having to specify a timezone. Doubly so for coordinating online meetings with people around the country.
- Comment on Republican senator renews push to make daylight savings permanent 2 months ago:
Standard time in which time zone? Since each zone is (typically) one hour off from the one next to it, then the people in the timezone to the east of yours are essentially on daylight time relative to you.
I could see an argument that sunlight is involved since sunrise times vary by latitude and longitude, but I’m told sunlight arguments are nonsense…
- Comment on Republican senator renews push to make daylight savings permanent 2 months ago:
Especially when people often travel to other time zones or sleep in on weekends…
I suspect the real issue is modern work culture leaves people with so little free time the chronic sleep deficit can’t handle the time change and a work day…

- Comment on Physical or Digital? 2 months ago:
Do they even make physical PC games anymore? Last ones I bought were either discs that immediately downloaded an updated copy of the whole game, or the box just contained a download code.
For the switch I buy physical, but it may be the last console where that makes sense.

I have an old Dewalt cordless drill that refuses to die and uses obsolete batteries that none of my other tools use. A corded Dewalt tablesaw. A kobalt powered screwdriver that I like so far, and a growing collection of Ryobi. An old skil branded circular saw and jig saw (corded.) They are all fine for regular household use and weekend projects.

- Comment on Capital One is set to acquire Discover, merging 2 of the US' largest credit-card companies 2 months ago:
Many years ago, when I was first becoming an adult, I applied for a discover card as my first card. They rejected me for bad credit history, which was nonsense. I had no credit history and was applying for an entry level card that did not require any. I figured I must have made a mistake and applied again. Same response. Called, and they refused to be of any service, just called me a credit risk and ended the call.
So fine, I did some research, and applied for a card from capital one. I was approved, no questions asked, and even got a rate limit increase a year later.
I’ve held a grudge against Discover ever since, so while I recognize the danger, I cannot help but gloat to see the company that would not give me the time of day gobbled up by the one I had to turn to for that first card.
- Comment on Microsoft's Pricey AI Assistant Copilot Leaves Early Adopters Feeling Cheated 2 months ago:
I have not had a chance to test the office integrations (and the $30 price tag may keep it that way,) but I’ve been testing the web chat version, and once toggled to “precise” mode I find it close to chatgpt. Just a little more prone to lapse into acting like a bing chat app and very limited in conversation length…
I think the trick is to treat it like a junior assistant or maybe an intern who might make mistakes and not as a seasoned, experienced employee who always puts out perfect work.

I had the same problem. Never noticed the drift until tears of the kingdom and then it made the game nearly unplayable. Decided to buy a pro controller only to discover it sold out nearly everywhere with many being sold online for scalper prices.
However, once I found one it was a game changer. The thing fits very well in my hands and works well. I don’t regret buying it, but will be pissed if it does not work with the next console.
