- Comment on Research shows more than 80% of AI projects fail, wasting billions of dollars in capital and resources: Report 2 months ago:
This was my first thought. VC’s always expect 4 out of 5 projects they invest in to fail and always have. But it still makes them money because the successes pay off big. Is the money and resources wasted? Welcome to modern capitalism.

- Comment on Is everyone so depressed now partially because modern science has probably proven there is no god / afterlife? 4 months ago:
Belief is a feature that humans have that can give you confidence both in proven outcomes and in the unknown. It stems from our prefrontal cortex survival capabilities to remember past experiences and simulate future experiences. Aka imagination. We can believe in anything we choose to.
Yes belief is psychologically comforting. Certainly a lot more than worrying about the unknown. It’s even more comforting if the belief is shared by a social group, reinforcing it to each other.
Other aspects of religion make life easier too. Rituals, traditions, stories and social ties.
Those things can help with depression, but depression is a cognitive-affective response to a body that isn’t living the way our bodies were evolved to live. Socializing, getting the right nutrients, sleeping well, getting enough exercise and sunlight.

I moved from the US to Italy, where everything is cheaper and better quality, and we get free healthcare, free college, retirement pension and six months paid maternity leave. All this on a 35% tax rate. Public daycare is about $300 a month, housing expenses are about half of what I paid in the US, and while groceries are about the same, they are all local, organic, non GMO and -get this - crops are grown for flavor rather than weight. Houses are smaller here and wages are usually lower, but working hours are less and less intense, and the pace of life is much chiller.
- Comment on Millions face below-zero temperatures in US as winter storms bring Arctic air 10 months ago:
American here, I agree, our anachronistic measurement systems and twisted pride in them is insane (but insanity is perfectly normal here).
In the lower Midwest it is currently -22C (-8F) in Kansas City and Chicago. In the upper Midwest it’s about -25C (–13F) in Fargo, North Dakota and 27C (-17F) in Billings, Montana.
Temperatures are usually 10-15 degrees C higher this time of year, so this weather is quite dangerous.
- Comment on What are some of the best mini-games youve played? (games inside games) 10 months ago:
All of the Yakuza games are basically, collections of well made mini games that turn each beat-em-up campaign into a hundred hours of fun. But among those, the Cabaret Club and Pocket Circuit RC race-car games from Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami, are probably my favs.

I bought one 3 months ago after going back and forth for ages. It’s really good but I wish I had either bought it immediately or waited a few more months. Don’t hesitate, go for it.
- Comment on If you could play one game for the first time all over again, what would it be? 1 year ago:
Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger or Earthbound. So many feels my little brain didn’t have words for.
