Is your experience IT or do you also have (even rudimentary) programming experience? Industrial automation is a great option. I feel blessed, having started from below the bottom (not all people are fit to be parents!) working as a metal carpenter while still underage, to have managed to get into this field, through hard work and, most importantly, a good amount of luck.

- Comment on Lemmy votes ARE public, should they be anonymous? 2 months ago:
I think you’re looking for a different type of community then, like an image board.
- Comment on Lemmy votes ARE public, should they be anonymous? 2 months ago:
If I vote something I’m expressing my opinion just like I would with a comment, and those are not anonymous.
I get that people are worried about griefers and psychos, but anonymity is just a (poor) cure for the symptoms, not for the disease; people who don’t behave should be banned, and if their instance turns out to be a detriment to the community, they should be defederated. The anonymity we should ensure is the one of the person behind the username, to avoid doxxing and cyber-bullying.

The reason the rich are rich is that they extract value from others’ work. Everything else is just a bonus.
- Comment on There is no fix for Intel’s crashing 13th and 14th Gen CPUs — any damage is permanent 3 months ago:
Yeah I never really considered them before Ryzen, but even afterwards, it’s been very difficult to find one with the specs I want.

I’ve been on AMD and ATi since the Athlon 64 days on the desktop.
Laptops are always Intel, simply because that’s what I can find, even if every time I scour the market extensively.

- Comment on LAPD warns residents after spike in burglaries using Wi-Fi jammers that disable security cameras, smart doorbells 3 months ago:
A jammer is less sophisticated than a crowbar. It’s not like the burglar designs it themselves. Nor are they hacking your network to gain access, they just shut everything down.
- Comment on If anything happen to Linux today, like what happened to Windows, most of the internet would be dead. 3 months ago:
You’re actually confirming good point about culture though. The fact that you couldn’t stop them doesn’t mean that it also happened to everybody else: some management might have listened. Linux users abhor adding weird shit to their OS, Windows users do it all the time.

Well, it wouldn’t be fair if the keepers were the only ones allowed to eat them, either… There are 20 other players.

Yeah they need a lot of panels to offset the fact that they’ll be running at 10% efficiency lol

Universal healthcare, PTO and mutual assistance are EU-wide. Argument invalid.
- Comment on Microsoft is not done yet: more ads spotted in latest Windows 11 build - gHacks Tech News 4 months ago:
Microsoft put themselves in this position when they went against the open source movement.
It moves slowly but inexorably, and sooner or later Linux or another open source OS will take their spot on the desktop. - Comment on Joe Biden to raise solar import tariffs in bid to protect US industry 5 months ago:

Oh, was this because of limited processing power / slow secondary storage read speeds?
All of that and more. They didn’t have mass memory, so you had a maximum number of contacts, a maximum number of SMS, a maximum number of ringtones… but you couldn’t delete ringtones to make room for SMSses or such. They were a completely different tech.
NO WAY… Oof that must’ve been so annoying, no? Ur phone being a waking advertisement to everyone around you?
They loved it. Also it couldn’t share media (messaging apps didn’t exist yet and it didn’t support MMS) and was GSM only, so to actually do anything smart it had to be connected to WiFi.

Old dumb phones could not play arbitrary audio… Well, aside from phone calls of course. Ringtones were a series of… Tones! Kinda like a midi file, ever heard of that?
Extra fun fact, the original iPhone only had THE iphone ringtone, and you could not change it.
