- Comment on Traveling this summer? Maybe don’t let the airport scan your face. 3 months ago:
You’re already on hundreds of cameras by walking into any airport in the world. Do they need your consent to run facial recognition software on the security footage?
- Comment on Bark Air, a new luxury airline for dogs, launching flights in May 6 months ago:
Flights in May between New York and Los Angeles will cost $6,000 per dog and human pair, and $8,000 for flights between New York and London for each pooch and parent couple.
- Comment on Drone maker DJI facing U.S. FCC ban — the national security risk and part China-state ownership are key issues 6 months ago:
No, most companies in China are private. Most of the super large companies are partially state owned though.

And then everyone applauded..
But seriously if I witnessed this, I might actually applaud because that is a pretty badass bit of trivia to get to whip out.

“[Google] will give users an exclusive offer for a Self Setup System from ADT on us (up to $485 value) or $200 to use on the Google Store.”
- Comment on Tipping culture npcs 9 months ago:
It mostly bothers me when I just order 1 entree and a water. At one place that might cost $10, and at another place it might cost $30, and all the wait staff did was carry a plate from the kitchen to me in both cases.
It doesn’t seem fair that the wait staff at the more expensive place gets tipped more than the less expensive place just because of an arbitrary custom.
The extra cost of the expensive meal is mostly due to ingredients, the cooking process, the location, and maaay slightly more complicated table setting.
- Comment on text don't call 9 months ago:
Yes it was annoying how our families kept bringing up how we “got lost on the mountain” during the trip and we kept having to remind them that we weren’t lost, just hiking!
- Comment on text don't call 9 months ago:
This is like when I was 11 and my family went hiking up a mountain in Yellowstone. My young cousin and I thought my brother was ahead of us on the trail so we hurried up trying to catch up to him. We were passing many hikers on a busy trail and being safe.
An hour later my brother comes running up behind us saying everyone is looking for us! Apparently the park rangers had been mobilized to search for us, the missing children, and when we got down the mountain an hour or more later our families were down there in tears fearing we had fallen off the mountain or something.
Point being, it’s totally possible for everyone to think you’re lost and in danger when you are fine and know exactly where you are.
- Comment on A round of applause for Mike Drucker. 9 months ago:
I’m guessing you’re not getting many replies because you’re not forming a coherent argument.
Your first comment was against Taylor Swift expressing the view that her fans should go out and vote. Your second comment is against “what she represents” which you left undefined other than the media cabal which is a separate issue and outside of her control.
- Comment on Apple’s Vision Pro battery pack is hiding the final boss of Lightning cables 9 months ago:
Very good explanation. If usb-c is good enough for a MacBook, it’s definitely good enough for a small headset - no excuses!
- Comment on America Is Missing Out on the Best Electric Cars: Whatever kind of EV you might want, chances are China has it. 9 months ago:
Eh, I’ve seen all these same headlines on Hacker News. China is a rapidly developing country with a lot more people, manufacturing, advancements, and news than many other countries so it makes sense that there would be a lot of news coming out of it.
I just visited China for the first time during a business trip a few weeks ago and as an American I was impressed. The US media tries so hard to present only the negative that a lot of Americans aren’t even aware of all the achievements they’ve accomplished.

This plus extreme selection bias. There’s plenty of concrete that did not last for thousands of years.
- Comment on Why is Google allowed to remove purchases from our Play Store accounts without telling us? 10 months ago:
I’ve used F-Droid without unlocking the bootloader or rooting or Google Play services integration. Developers are free to use F-Droid, most just choose not to. Hopefully it becomes even more popular as gplay has more issues.
- Comment on Fear Mongering About Range Anxiety Has To Stop — CT Governor Calls Out EV Opponents 10 months ago:
Right, they seem like the gateway car to ride people over until a full EV and the charging networks are more competitive. I would love an EV but they just aren’t convenient enough for my work travel schedule. A plug-in hybrid would solve that concern and allow for my non-work driving around town to be electric.

Would this affect any other watches that use optical blood oxygen sensors? Are they just starting with Apple because they’re the largest or did Apple just do things the Masimo way?

Check out dry herb vaping, the safest way to “smoke” weed without combustion. Still not perfect but way better in every way.
- Comment on YSK that chiropractors are not medical doctors and "Systematic reviews... have found no evidence that chiropractic manipulation is effective" 11 months ago:
Yeah, the last time I went to a chiropractor for back pain, they also “corrected” my neck which in the past felt good but this time it just immediately pulled a muscle in my neck and left me in pain and barely able to turn my head for weeks.
It’s better now, but I’ll never go back to a chiropractor again because of the risk of making things worse for essentially no benefit.

Unfortunately, I can’t use that inside my Android app, Harmonic.

- Comment on Are there any active news communities similar to Lemmy/Reddit, but users can only vote and comment, not post articles? 1 year ago:
Yeah, some of them are way too technical for me as well. Only some of the articles end up getting reposted to lemmy though, when I browse directly on hacker news, I tend to find a good mix of articles that are less technical but still interesting.
- Comment on Are there any active news communities similar to Lemmy/Reddit, but users can only vote and comment, not post articles? 1 year ago:
Check out Hacker News. Their mission is to only allow thought provoking posts and to not allow enshitification or dumbing down of their platform.
Users can still post content but it is more highly moderated to maintain content. The users tend to be techy so user submissions are higher quality than average reddit/lemmy posts.
There is a lemmy community that reposts articles from hacker news but now I just browse it on their website or using the Android app Harmonic which I recommend.

- Comment on Starlink 1 year ago:
Not only this, but StarLink is a new and rapidly growing service so the number of subscribers is still on a steep upward trend. Comparing carbon/subscriber is going to be inaccurate right now due to the low number of starlink subscribers compared to a more established utility with a stable number of users. StarLink also has more new infrastructure needed than an established utility.
- Comment on How do I get informed on Joe Rogan without watching his videos. 1 year ago:
This is good advice! I listened to his podcast for a little because I was interested in a particular guest and I wanted to hear what the guess had to say, not what Rogan thought. I found a few other guests I liked but I quickly stopped listening because Rogan always makes interviews about his interests and it grew old.

You can just disable it when it pops up. I hope it continues to warn new users when first setting it up.
- Comment on It's not just you — no one is posting on social media anymore 1 year ago:
That’s what I thought when I tried it last fall but it turns out that 99% of people live very boring lives or put very little effort into these no notice pictures. Browsing my feed was so dull, I lost interest quickly.
