A lot of animated movies have super star studded voiceovers. The pay is pretty good for these actors and they don’t have to spend hours on makeup and wardrobe. They show up in regular clothes, talk into a mic for a couple hours then go home and cash a fat check. Vastly easier than actual acting roles.

Once it’s automated it’s the same either way. Probably something even vibe code could pull off.
- Comment on The RAM shortage is coming for everything you care about 2 days ago:
I’ve not missed a Veritasium video in a long time 😄. I’m sure that RAM is much easier to produce, but DRR5 is pretty complex still, and is what has been snapped up in whole by these AI companies. I’m actually wondering if we’ll see a resurgence of DDR4 motherboards, as those fabs are likely around still, just likely more idle if used at all.
- Comment on The RAM shortage is coming for everything you care about 2 days ago:
I’m fairly certain that spinning up RAM fabs isn’t super quick nor something that doesn’t require the most cutting edge tech.
China is definitely ahead of the US in a lot of tech, but unless they do invade Taiwan they might not have quite a deep enough bench.

But also 100% predictable. Sad, but not unexpected.
For reference, I could absolutely take a job in the next couple weeks with a $50k signing bonus where I get to shoot people in the face with impunity, but I also know that the Nuremberg Trials were a thing. Also, I’m not a horrible human.
- Comment on Do we need more users ? 5 weeks ago:
That’s the old Slashdot model. It does change how echo-y the chambers become when you limit how things get amplified. Those with higher engagement get to push things a lot harder and I’d actually fear the opposite. An Ai model would certainly be able to echo the general feeling of a place and then slowly turn the dial toward a goal, and do it more effectively in that case as it can comment on everything anyway.
- Comment on Huh? 5 weeks ago:
Back in the late 90s, at a seedy bar with my tech-head buddies, we snagged a booth/table with a crappy half blown speaker that was pumping music so loud you couldn’t hear ANYTHING. My buddy whips out his multi tool and proceeds to stand up and snip the wire going to the speaker. An amazing idea that I’ve really never had the chance to replicate, but inspired me to carry a multi tool a lot more.

If you offer enough odds, someone would take it just to make you shit your pants and prove it. A one penny bet with $10,000 payout? Maybe you forget about it and come 2026 some idiot takes you for a wad-o-cash.

You’re not an edge case. My family isn’t that large but we still have challenges with this exact thing.
There’s a screen device that my wife gets incessantly advertised to her that is probably a better option than it being built into a fridge that has been engineered to last 3 weeks longer than the warranty.

Yep. I did carry a pair of 12ft 2x12 once. Just slides between the front seats. Mine only tows 8750lbs but my trailer is only about 5500.
- Comment on A truck bed with a tonneau over it is just an SUV trunk with extra steps. 4 months ago:
I can fit 4x8 sheets in my suv pretty easy. More often though, I have more than 5 passengers. I also have a tow hitch and a U-Haul trailer is like $20 for the day to carry stuff that won’t fit in the back or is too nasty.

I love some connected devices, and own a LOT of them, but some things are just stupid. I don’t need my blender to be connected. Washer, dryer? Unless it’s going to move my laundry from one to the other, nope. Stove, wtf? I have to go stir anyway so who gives a crap.
- Comment on Elon Musk has done more damage to the Tesla name than Thomas Edison could have ever hoped to do. 8 months ago:
I’m not so sure about that. Elon already walked back his attacks on Trump, and the Democrats won’t take him in after the Nazi salute and having him turn to trump in the first place means that he can’t be trusted.

- Comment on is it wrong/selfish to cut contact with my trump-supporting father? 11 months ago:
My parents are nowhere near as deep in the rabbit hole, but I’m essentially dark on communications with them at this point. Once they have convinced me that they are fighting against the current state of things, I’ll re-engage. Currently they are unaware of this fact, but it won’t be too much longer until they realize that I have no time or desire to interact with them anymore. They will have to choose and I’m at peace with either outcome at this point.

I’m a HP reseller, but barely ( I might sell a half dozen servers a year as part of larger projects) it’s SO MUCH EASIER to deal with Dell tho. Quality has been good but not great for both for a long time.

Which of those are not “advertising” of one sort or another? Twitter was a dumb idea to start and I still just don’t see any appeal.
FB had my friends (now is a stupid cesspool of echo chamber idiocy.
Insta was photo-based FB Lite.
Fark>Slashdot>Digg>Reddit>Lemmy was/is about community and sharing of ideas and thoughts. Each had its own strengths and weaknesses, but the anonymity gave everyone an equal opportunity to participate.
The early days of Twitter seemed to be 10,000 people yelling in a room and nobody listening. Then celebrities took over and companies followed. Enshittifying it early on in the process.

Hopefully these people get double-fucked. Moreso because they bought a swasticar from President Musk, but also because fuckyou to people who buy stuff just to resell at a higher margin.
