- Comment on USA | Law enforcement leans on 3D-printer industry to help thwart machine gun conversion devices 2 months ago:
“Law enforcement cannot do this alone,” Monaco said during a gathering in Washington of federal law enforcement officials, members of the 3D-printing industry and academia. “We need to engage software developers, technology experts and leaders in the 3-D-printing industry to identify solutions in this fight.”
Good luck with that, it’s basically impossible. The best they could hope to do is have commercial printing services watch for and refuse to print the devices. Anyone can look up the patent for a Glock switch and design and print one themselves. It can’t be blocked on the printer level because that would require the printer to be a lot smarter than they currently are, and any such blocking could be bypassed by building a printer from scratch (not easy, but totally doable).

by the time Windows 11 rolled around it was full-featured enough to serve as a complete Control Panel replacement most of the time, with a handful of exceptions made for especially obscure changes
TIL managing Outlook profiles is obscure

To pick a losing candidate? That’s more of a DNC move.
- Comment on why isn't anyone calling for Trump to drop out. 4 months ago:
I’m suggesting that literally every eligible voter should have done that. Republicans only get away with representing the worst vocal minorities in this country because we let them.
- Comment on why isn't anyone calling for Trump to drop out. 4 months ago:
what do you suggest people should have done during the primaries
Register Republican and vote for anyone but Trump. Even if the vote were split and he ended up winning anyway it would have emboldened centrist Republicans to stand against the fascist wing of the party.
- Comment on why isn't anyone calling for Trump to drop out. 4 months ago:
No one is asking him to drop out because they aren’t afraid he’s going to lose. Simple as that.
Everyone with their panties in a twist right now could have done something about it during the primaries, but apparently protest votes about Israeli atrocities were the priority.

- Comment on [Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism? 6 months ago:
Most isn’t all and that’s the point. You can be concerned about the ethical treatment of animals without going full vegan, you’ll just need to pay more attention and money at the grocery store to support the right products.

TIL the eggs from my backyard chickens might be from a factory farm
- Comment on [Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism? 6 months ago:
No one likes being criticized and labeled a monster by an ignorant prick. They way to frequently act like every egg comes from a half zombie chicken that’s kept in a little box and tortured just for fun, or that a cow couldn’t possibly end up in a cheeseburger after living its best life. Factory farming is bad for lots of reasons, but it’s not characteristic of the entire industry.

And yet the prices continue to rise, the corps are bringing in record profits, and the fed’s best efforts have only slightly slowed the upward push on prices. Think that’s just a coincidence?

What other companies? There’s just a handful of conglomerates and a few defacto monopolies who all stay out of each other’s lanes. Where they should be competing, they colude. We need to elect some trust busters but we keep being told our only options are keep things the same or burn it all down.

Ok, sure, that’s a lot of mayo. But I didn’t think OP was referring to an amount consumed in one sitting. Surely there’s someone out there that just loves macaroni salad or coleslaw who ends up eating way more on a longer timescale.

How long is that going to take? Can we do it via Zoom? If it’s not inconvenient for me to attend this meeting I’d be down for $1/second. My number is higher if it has to be in person, but I’m not gonna act like it’s a high number.

Bad example. Having the ‘but’ in there introduces ambiguity. We can’t tell if Janice is contradicting Bob and saying they both won’t be coming, or if it’s just Janice speaking for themself.

I genuinely worry that as more clocks update themselves we will become complacent and will never be free from this tyranny.
But maybe we could reach a point where the clocks update every night so instead of shifting an hour at a time twice per year we can shift 20 seconds per day. I haven’t put much thought into this but I think it’s the next best solution after leaving the god damned clocks alone.
- Comment on How does delisting a game make/save money? 8 months ago:
not what the actual citizens in their districts want
Most of them don’t vote, so there’s no reason for any politician to ever take their wants into consideration. That’s really what needs fixing.
