- Comment on Alternative uses of a 3D printer: Toner transfer on a watch dial 3 days ago:
Be careful with inkjet photo paper in a laser printer. In particular, the glossy paper will typically have a coating that may come off in the laser printer due to the heat and pressure the printer uses, and that can cause issues over time.
- Comment on FCC hits Verizon with $1M fine for dropping 911 calls, again • The Register 3 days ago:
It was also the second time it happened. It was a mistake, but one that really shouldn’t have happened. And it was minor in terms of how long it was down, but not having access to 911 is potentially a major issue.
People are just sick of companies not being held responsible for repeated incompetence which often comes from cost cutting measures.

Looks like they currently only take filament as a donation and not as an exchange.

Backlash doesn’t always mean people are offended/upset. I think most people just recognize this as an ad done in bad taste or even just out of touch.
Bad company makes bad ad, people say it’s bad. Sure, kinda pointless to talk about, but it’s just another reason not to buy it and tell others not to buy into their anti consumer crap.

I believe tidal actually has a larger library than Spotify, and offers a tier that lets you listen to higher quality of music. Similar pricing to Spotify I think. I had it for a while and really liked it, only stopped paying for it because I’m broke so I’m sailing the seas for now
- Comment on FCC explicitly prohibits fast lanes, closing possible net neutrality loophole 1 month ago:
Because companies like to make money by breaking the status quo when there aren’t any rules.
It’s the thing they like to do most honestly, and why we need to make rules when we see open loopholes
- Comment on Chinese startup launching RISC-V laptop for devs and engineers priced at around $300 1 month ago:
The difference is that the CCP has a lot of control over Chinese companies operations.
In the US, the companies have a lot of control over the US government.

The vast majority killed aren’t terrorists. Just yesterday, Israel killed seven World Kitchen humanitarian aid workers in their World Kitchen labeled cars that were authorized by Israel to be there. Three cars, targeted one after another, all bombed. The tops of the cars had the logo so they wouldn’t be bombed.
The IDF is a terrorist organization

Like the time I called someone a zionist shill, I kinda get. The first comment of mine that got removed was a pretty supportive pro-trans comment but maybe the mod thought I was being too aggressive toward the person I replied to? Anyways, love that there’s that transparency here

Every person I know who’s spent money on star citizen seems happy with their RoI
Every person you know personally? Most comment sections I’ve seen discussing Star Citizen seems to have at least one or two people who are unhappy with their roi. Personally, I don’t feel like I’ve been able to get my full money’s worth yet. I think I will some day, I know it’s more than a tech demo, but the gameplay isn’t quite there yet and the game is still really buggy and unoptimized.
If they can release Squadron 42 this year or next, I think that’d really start to turn things around for them more than anything else
- Comment on Desperate TikTok lobbying effort backfires on Capitol Hill 3 months ago:
There is a huge lack of quality content compared to tiktok. And it’s algorithm is horrendous.
Despite spending months trying to get YouTube to NOT show me far right, conservative, police loving, religious, or bigoted content, I still see it every once in a while. I’ve reported content, downvoted, selected ‘I’m not interested’ and nothing works.
There was a video from a lawyer about a black woman telling her child it’s ok to take the entire Halloween candy bowl and if legally that’s stealing.
Almost every other comment was some form of “well what do you expect from those people” or “it’s always the one you expect the most” or just straight up slurs. So many racist ‘jokes’ and I spent an hour just reporting comments.
Another video of a person driving through protestors blocking the road. Controversial and frustrating, I understand. But almost every comment was “the protestors deserve it” or “I’d drive through them too” and some real sociopathic shit.
And almost all the ads are horrendous. Literally Joe Rogan brain supplements, trashy weight loss, sketchy ai read ‘science’ on what doctors don’t want to to know. I would rather hear about Raid Shadow Legends.
I’ve found a couple gems in the mix, actual content creators that are funny or interesting. But almost all of them are also on TikTok too so there’s no reason to torture myself scrolling through a post apocalyptic wasteland. And there are so many quality creators on TikTok that aren’t on YouTube.
I believe a big part of it is (from what I’ve heard) TikTok has the best creator fund for paying the people who make videos. So without an outright ban, there’s no reason for them to switch. Really, this would be an absolutely huge win for YouTube/Google. And as much as I distrust TikTok, it would be a loss for creators and viewers. At least imo
- Comment on Desperate TikTok lobbying effort backfires on Capitol Hill 3 months ago:
The parent company of TikTok is ByteDance which is a company based in China. But TikTok as a company isn’t based in China.
From its Wiki:
Its parent company, Beijing-based ByteDance, is owned by founders and Chinese investors (20%), other global investors (60%), and employees (20%). TikTok Ltd owns four entities that are based respectively in the United States, Australia (which also runs the New Zealand business), United Kingdom (also owns subsidiaries in the European Union), and Singapore (owns operations in Southeast Asia and India).
TikTok says that since 2020, the US based CEO is responsible for making important decisions. However, multiple reports claim that there is little functional separation between TikTok and its Beijing-based executives and software developers. TikTok has been noted for downplaying its connection with ByteDance and for eschewing questions about its relationship with the Chinese government.

- Comment on US lawmakers vote 50-0 to force sale of TikTok despite angry calls from users 3 months ago:
But the original comment you replied to WAS saying it’s only, or at least primarily, Tiktok.
I only commented because, especially among the reddit and fediverse demographic, there’s a fervent dislike of TikTok specifically. I think some people have lost sight of the larger issue, that TikTok is a symptom and not the disease. But it’s an easy target because of its early reputation as a dance app for younger users, its alleged ties to the CCP, and its popularity.
- Comment on US lawmakers vote 50-0 to force sale of TikTok despite angry calls from users 3 months ago:
The comment was
Yes but UNLIKE Facebook and other platforms, Tik Tok is aimed at and consumed by minors specifically.
That study shows the opposite. YouTube benefited from minors over 2.5 times more than TikTok. And it shows every other platform is benefiting similar amounts. In fact, Snapchat has half the number of monthly users as tiktok but has almost identical ad revenue from minors. All the major social media platforms suck and are trying to take advantage of us, especially kids
- Comment on Scientists find a simple way to destroy 'forever chemicals' — by beheading them 3 months ago:
Well it’s not really a decision between “either not use them at all, or have a proper way to dispose of them”
Yes, there are applications we don’t have alternative materials that we can agree are essential like safety products. That being said, we should definitely cut down our use of PFAS for items like floss, cosmetics, etc while continuing to look for alternatives. We use it far too much just for added convenience, but that convenience could be doing a lot of harm.
Kinda like the idea in this article, seems like a good compromise
- Comment on Mark Zuckerberg explains why so many tech companies are doing layoffs right now 4 months ago:
And when they have a good year and do a bunch of hiring, they say to shareholders “look at us growing! We hired 1000 extra people, so our business is booming!”
And when it slows down “we made difficult decisions but are now more efficient than ever! We benefited from the previous growth and now we can run lean again” and apparently shareholders eat that shit up.
I know the saying about not attributing to malice what can be attributed to stupidity… but I think we can say pretty confidently that it’s not incompetence, it’s deliberate and disgusting
