So it’s like radiation poisoning, then?
- Comment on Matrix messaging gaining ground in government IT 2 weeks ago:
Okay, so on further research it looks like the vulnerabilities were all part of that library, and not inherent to the protocol itself.
- Comment on Matrix messaging gaining ground in government IT 2 weeks ago:
I haven’t been following Matrix development too closely, but last I heard, both the protocol and the reference implementation had serious flaws, including gaping security holes. As in, issues that couldn’t be overcome without a clean-slate redesign. Did they somehow manage to salvage something useable?
- Comment on Using the same abbreviation scheme as "internationalization" -> "i18n", the word "to" can be abreviated as "t0o". 2 weeks ago:
This but unironically.
If the word is understandable, screw the spelling. Descriptivists rise up!
- Comment on If God had wanted us to have nearly unlimited clean energy, He would have placed a fusion reactor into the sky. 2 weeks ago:
Huh, I didn’t realize the numbers worked out that well.
I think there’s still a raw-materials issue. Extraction and transport for that much solar is doable but still a big disadvantage.
- Comment on If God had wanted us to have nearly unlimited clean energy, He would have placed a fusion reactor into the sky. 2 weeks ago:
I still think nuclear (probably fission rather than fusion) has a place, at least in terms of land usage. It’s just obscenely efficient in terms of energy per resource investment. It requires many square miles and hundreds of tons of materials to match the output of a single reactor.

Turns out heat engines are like… pretty good at turning arbitrary energy sources into useful work.

The name “Lucifer” also means “light bringer”, and it can be interpreted to refer to his gift of the “light of reason” to humanity in the garden.
- Comment on With The Sims owners EA selling to Saudi Arabia, and InZOI owners Krafton going "AI First", there is room in the market for a very queer life simulator 3 months ago:
…right up until the payment processors declare that queer representation is “adult content” and get it delisted.

I feel like propping up the industry primarily responsible for one of the largest (if not the largest) crises in human history is an appropriate place to draw a line.
