Whoops my bad. Yes, Stoat is the re-brand of Revolt.
- Comment on Question: Is there a Self Hosted Discord like app? 2 weeks ago:
matrix-construct.github.io/tuwunel/…/docker.html?…
tuwunel seems to have some docker guides for how to set up voice & docker.
- Comment on Question: Is there a Self Hosted Discord like app? 2 weeks ago:
From what I can tell, the only benefit is that the platform is close to the Discord experience. So people migrating to Stoat would feel right at home.
But there’s no federation, no e2ee, apparently it’s difficult to get voice setup if you self host…
Matrix has it’s issues too. Goup chat e2ee is not good. No one uses it. But at least they’ve got federation.
continuwuity.org seems like a decent server to run if you want to run a matrix server.
- Comment on Question: Is there a Self Hosted Discord like app? 2 weeks ago:
E2EE group chats on matrix seems to be a huge problem still. I look forward to their MLS implementation. Hopefully that fixes a lot of these UX issues.

It’s a shame, zulip doesn’t have e2ee. not even DMs. but they seem to be working towards federation of some sort? there are no good/perfect solutions out there.
- Comment on Question: Is there a Self Hosted Discord like app? 2 weeks ago:
Turns out they also don’t support federation or e2ee. If those are things you care about.

Check their GitHub. Although it looks like GitHub is having issues right now.

Link to their voice chat implementatoon.
Looks like you can enable it on self hosted version. Probably worth someone trying it out personally. Before giving up on stoat.

No clue! It was revolt before. I think they had trademark issues with that name. What’s wrong with stoat?
- Comment on Question: Is there a Self Hosted Discord like app? 2 weeks ago:
Check out stoat.chat, it’s the closest self hostable group communications platform that looks like Discord.

I tried to find you on the fediverse (mastodon) and see this comment!
I just wanted to say, you’re doing a great job! This release, with native apps is awesome. I see that Android Auto is on the roadmap, and I’m excited for that as well :)
I have tested with Pocket Casts, AntennaPods (with PinePods as the backend!) and the PinePods android app… the fact that PinePods supports server downloads, and the Android app allows for bypassing local downloads (to stream the server version)… I notice that when I listen with PinePods Android, there’s less ads compared to Pocket Casts Android and AntennaPods! +1 for PinePods Android :)
These podcast streams must detect if a request is on mobile and inject specific ads 😅

Are you able to drag & drop to reorder checkbox lists? 🙏
- Comment on Recommendations for Note taking app with simple needs 4 months ago:
SimpleMarkdown doesn’t allow for re-ordering checkbox list items.
- Comment on Recommendations for Note taking app with simple needs 4 months ago:
I already use Tasks.org :) But that’s for specific things.
I like writing list of things. Like groceries, and as I write them, I tend to re-organize them. Having the ability to re-order the items easily helps me tremendously.
Tasks.org can’t fill that note aspect. Let alone re-ordering a task.
- Comment on Recommendations for Note taking app with simple needs 4 months ago:
Whoa. This actually works pretty close. Although, I am not seeing the ability to drag and drop re-order list items anymore. I did when I first tested, but after syncing to my server, it seems to have disappeared… do you have that feature?
- Comment on Recommendations for Note taking app with simple needs 4 months ago:
I hear ya. I don’t carry a notebook with me, and don’t like to fill my pockets. So I appreciate the low tech suggestion, but will have to pass on this!
- Comment on Recommendations for Note taking app with simple needs 4 months ago:
Thanks! I had tested Notesnook with the official server. It worked the way I want. but it seems their self host server doesn’t have that feature. Not obviously tho. Which is really weird, since I’m using the same client app (where I assumed this functionality would live).
- Comment on Recommendations for Note taking app with simple needs 4 months ago:
Thanks.
I just set up Notesnook lol I can drag and drop reorder list items (checkbox list) on the official server, but not when connected to my own… Same exact mobile app (just different server)… The fact that Notesnook and Standard Notes both claim to be open source, but don’t share their code with the open source world. Maybe it’s gated by env vars. Who knows. I have half a mind to give Obsidian a chance if it can do what I want.

Can’t drag and drop to reorder lists. But it looks cool!

Ah good point. I edited my post! Android and Web (nice to have is desktop Linux support). Thank you!
- Comment on Recommendations for Note taking app with simple needs 4 months ago:
I suppose I should have mentioned more directly, I’d prefer if it’s an open source solution.

Chrono Cross OST is probably one of the best sound tracks I’ve ever heard and still listen to regularly.
Same with most Zelda soundtracks. Wind Waker especially had an amazing OST.

- Comment on How did you guys get your fediverse real-time notifications to work? 11 months ago:
On iOS, Arctic for Lemmy supports push notifications. And Ice Cubes for Mastodon supports push notifications as well.
On Android, I’ve been using Moshidon for Mastodon and Thunder for Lemmy. Both apps support Unified Push (it’s experimental for Thunder, requires a self hosted server as well).
