Glyphosate is an herbicide, not a pesticide.
BT plants would have greatly reduced the need for pesticides, but we somehow decided gmos were bad

- Comment on If you take care of your parents or other elderly, how are you preparing to age gracefully? 1 month ago:
I don’t have kids but I’d kind of like to have adult kids when I’m old. So maybe I can adopt a college age person when I’m like 50 or something

The censorship gets to me, too.
Try asking bing image creator to draw Jesus. Not a problem. Buddha, Ganesha, David and Goliath, Zeus, no problem. It will give you great depictions.
Now try asking it to draw the prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him. No joy.
Censorship.
- Comment on The United States of America, but for Trans People 2 months ago:
Wyoming and Montana have absolutely amazing mountains. I say that as someone who lives in the third best mountains state. They have mountains as good as ours but without as many people in them.
Alaska is simply amazing, one of the best places I’ve ever been in the summer. I can’t wait to go again.
Otherwise nah fuck that shit
- Comment on I'm a US citizen, people in other countries, what do you think when you read stories like these about the US health care system? 4 months ago:
Well it’s not that it means nothing to me, but my job in the US pays about $30k more than it would in Germany (I can’t speak to other countries). Lots of Germans come to the US to work in my field for that reason (well they used to before all the layoffs). Also my health insurance is free.
That said, I absolutely still want public healthcare. Not just for the people in my country who desperately need it, but for myself too. Because while my healthcare is “free”, it isn’t really; my salary could be higher otherwise. And I lose coverage if I stop working (actually not really we have programs for that, but still kind of).
- Comment on Consumer confidence in current economic conditions 4 months ago:
Inflation is easing up, people are getting raises, and gen Y’s boomer parents are starting to die leaving behind lots of money and houses. That light blue line is coming up and it will be fine for everyone except for those for whom it was never going to be fine anyway (which is a ton of fucking people, holy shit we need to help the poor).
- Comment on Canada to ban the Flipper Zero to stop surge in car thefts 4 months ago:
Are people downvoting this because you made a fair comparison between something they like (flipper) and something they don’t (guns)? Like are you being downvoted out of cognitive dissonance?
- Comment on Rumored 'Big-Block' Duramax Diesel Could Be 8.3L and We’re Off the Rails Now 4 months ago:
Holy shit I thought the 6.6 in my 2500 was huge, but imagine how much the block would weigh on an 8.3L. I mean at some point your front suspension gets absolutely crazy. Would be smart if they could make it a straight six though instead of a V8, way better balance characteristics and that’s why many of the big diesels have that layout.
- Comment on GM Reverses All-In EV Strategy to Bring Back Plug-In Hybrids 4 months ago:
Because it had worse margins than other cars they could be selling. Heard an interview with their CEO about this exact thing. Other vehicles make them more money so they are focusing there.
- Comment on U.S. economy added 353,000 jobs in January, much better than expected 4 months ago:
I keep hearing about adding jobs but they’re never tech jobs. Please figure out how to add tech jobs, it’s a bit scary out here
- Comment on Your Car Is Tracking You. Abusive Partners May Be, Too. 5 months ago:
I was making the point that “your car is spying on you” probably isn’t true for a huge section of people, since there are lots of 10-15 year old cars on the road.
Also, older cars are much more repairable than people consider. We just have a huge economic infrastructure set up around having the “next best thing”.
- Comment on Your Car Is Tracking You. Abusive Partners May Be, Too. 5 months ago:
I find it very hard to believe that almost any car made before 2012 or so is tracking me.
My aftermarket radio may be tracking me though.
- Comment on Probability.... Need I say more?! 5 months ago:
I don’t like this comic because the frequentist statistician is operating with an effective n=1. You’d ask the detector 1000 more times, and use those results to get your answer.
- Comment on Nvidia CEO Foresees AI Competing with Human Intelligence in Five Years 5 months ago:

- Comment on Lucid's new all-electric Gravity SUV is a sustainability champion 5 months ago:
I’d love to go electric but most of the electric vehicles I’ve seen are a) luxury and b) small. Like I want something large that can pull a trailer and haul my kayaks/bikes/skis/tools/etc.
So an actual SUV (not a small suv like Tesla X) sounds great, but all this luxury shit is a big turnoff for me. It’s going to get beat to hell, and I don’t want to worry about fixing all this electronic shit like pop out door handles. I don’t even want power windows or AC.

I want a personal assistant that actually works. Like Siri or Alexa, but it can actually do secretarial tasks.

- Comment on Driverless cars were the future but now the truth is out: they’re on the road to nowhere 6 months ago:
You missed part of the problem. It’s actually,
“I want to fast+safe+cheaply get from where I am, to where work/school/fun is, and I want to do it without sharing transportation with anyone else who might be sick, annoying, crazy, or a member of an ethnic group or economic class I don’t care for”
The good solutions for transit do not account for how much people hate being around each other. My city has phenomenal bus infrastructure, that often gets you to your destination faster than driving. But people drive anyways, because there are sick people and crazy people on the bus.
- Comment on Walmart, Costco and other companies rethink self-checkout, some stores removing them 6 months ago:
I actually really dislike it. I hate how it takes away lots of jobs from people. For example, there used to be a lot of retarded people who did bagging. That was an awesome way to get them into the workforce.
I understand some people don’t like social interaction and like self check out, but they should suck it up.

Makes me even more optimistic about future EV retrofitting. I have an FJ Cruiser that has an incredible amount of room for batteries between the frame rails; I’d love to have it be retrofitted one day.
- Comment on GM’s big bet on driverless cars turns sour 7 months ago:
Tons of ways to structure that legally. Lobby for laws that protect makers of self driving cars, for one. Or have the occupants be ultimately responsible.
