- Comment on Rustls Outperforms OpenSSL and BoringSSL. 2 weeks ago:
I’m fairly confident “rustls” should be “rust language server” if it stands for anything…
- Comment on E Ink faces growing competition in the "paper-like" display space - Liliputing 2 months ago:
I mostly agree, but it would be nice if it was a bit faster to be able to use it for web browsing. I still like reading long form articles and such but navigating and scrolling isn’t very viable yet on e-readers.
- Comment on AMD won't patch all chips affected by severe data theft vulnerability — Ryzen 3000, 2000, and 1000 will not get patched for 'Sinkclose' 2 months ago:
Exactly. That’s why it’s a trash motherboard as soon as root access is gained. It can never again be trusted.
- Comment on AMD won't patch all chips affected by severe data theft vulnerability — Ryzen 3000, 2000, and 1000 will not get patched for 'Sinkclose' 2 months ago:
How do you trust that the flash was done properly if you did it from the compromised system? This would only work if you flashed it externally somehow without the system running.
- Comment on US slows plans to retire coal plants because of AI power usage 3 months ago:
The problem isn’t function or safety, it’s cost. It isn’t cost effective to build or renovate a nuclear plant compared to wind or solar. If you have one in good condition, it makes sense to let it run its lifetime, but it makes little sense to build new.

What does the FBI have to do with this?
- Comment on Las Vegas' dystopia-sphere, powered by 150 Nvidia GPUs and drawing up to 28,000,000 watts, is both a testament to the hubris of humanity and an admittedly impressive technical feat | PC Gamer 3 months ago:
But the energy usage is quoted as peak for the entire venue - which is literally a theater / concert hall. It opened with a live U2 performance. The energy usage isn’t just for the displays, it includes all the power for the entire building, the concert speakers, heating/cooling, indoor lighting, any kitchen equipment, etc.
- Comment on Steam announces game recording beta. 4 months ago:
Awesome. OBS has never prioritized Linux performance, curious how this will compare.
- Comment on The fine art of negotiation 4 months ago:
Even if you assume 8hr days that’s $63/hr, sizable drop from 100
- Comment on Meta spent $4.3 billion on its VR division in three months, and made *checks figures* $440 million in return 6 months ago:
That’s because they’re losing billions selling it. If it cost what it actually took to produce it wouldn’t be the best on the market anymore, they’re trying to bully out players who can’t afford to lose billions for years until they’re in total control.
- Comment on Metal Gear Solid Master Collection gets Steam Input support and various fixes 7 months ago:
Nice to see Steam Input support, wish that was more common. It solves so many problems so well with a variety of controllers.
- Comment on Dutch far-right firebrand Wilders says he won't be Prime Minister 7 months ago:
That’s about how he acts too. He’s been in politics for a lot longer than Trump though so it’s hard to call him a clone.
- Comment on AMD stops certifying monitors, TVs under 144 Hz for FreeSync 8 months ago:
Not really. Monitors do poorly at lower refresh rates (anything under 50Hz, hence HDMI2.1 for example only doing 48-60 on 60Hz but on a 120Hz it can use LFC to multiply lower framerates). If you drop to 47FPS on a 60Hz VRR display you lose VRR or get other issues (flickering, persistence, etc). If you drop to 47FPS on a 120Hz VRR display it doubles it to 94 and you’re still smooth.

- Comment on It is essential to stop using Chrome. Under the pretense of saving users from third-party spyware, Google is creating an ecosystem in which Chrome itself is the spyware. 10 months ago:
Firefox isn’t based on WebKit. Maybe you’re thinking Safari.

Isn’t that every Windows handheld?
- Comment on Gamecube is the most underrated console while it was in circulation. 10 months ago:
PS1? Those disc drives were very fragile. Mine didn’t work unless I physically tilted console sideways after like 2 years of use.
- Comment on 2023 was the year that GPUs stood still 10 months ago:
Nah 2022 it was running backwards far more. 2023 was a slight recovery but still worse than 2021.
- Comment on Reuters has taken down -- globally -- an important hacking-for-profit investigation that included details about an Indian hacking entrepreneur -- because he got a court in that country to say so. 10 months ago:
What’s the difference between the court saying it’s defamation, and thus illegal to publish and worthy of awarding damages, and ordering it taken down? Seems like splitting hairs.
- Comment on Toshiba exec claims hard drives are 7X cheaper than SSDs and will continually evolve for large datacenters 10 months ago:
Nobody is buying $50 drives for a datacenter. What matters here is how this compares with 16TB+ sizes.
- Comment on Why is alcohol measured in percentages? 10 months ago:
Isn’t this standard everywhere? I know it’s like this in the Netherlands
- Comment on Apple wants AI to run directly on its hardware instead of in the cloud 10 months ago:
Eh, it’s a bit more than that. I work on a private cloud, the implications of it being a cloud versus traditional bare metal or virtualization platforms are around the APIs, quick spin up/down cycles, fully integrated recovery, imaging and remote console systems, integration with automated deployment platforms and others. It’s not just a buzz word.

In what world is Cyberpunk’s ray tracing disappointing? Some shots I took while playing over the last month or so. I’ve never seen a better graphical showpiece.

- Comment on Support PassKey Integration (Web Authentication API) in KeePassXC implemented 1 year ago:
Bitwarden is more of a direct replacement to Lastpass, but better and open source with self hosting options (see also Vaultwarden). Keepass is a safe stored and managed by you, no syncing or online services are included.
