- Comment on Even Apple finally admits that 8GB RAM isn't enough 4 months ago:
I have a friend who is self-employed. He uses an iPhone and a MacBook Air. He only uses iMessage, Numbers, Safari and Apple Music for entertainment. He gets away with 8gb just fine and rarely has to reboot.
He probably could use a Chromebook or something even lighter, but the support and ecosystem were enough for him to pay the premium. His time is valuable to him so it was worth it to him.

Accurate.

What is the obsession with shitting on people’s choices? I don’t understand the irony of demanding choice in this industry, then shitting on people when they make a choice you don’t agree with.

iPhones also have this feature, for a long time now:

Rather irresponsible of the article to not point out these features on Android and iPhone. Did a cop or government official write that article?

I guess I need to start looking deeper into this, and the potential for importing existing infrastructures into pulumi’s purview. But I’m hesitant - I don’t want pulumi to pull a Hashicorp. I’m wondering if it’s best to just got with CFN and Bicep.

That doesn’t mean they will be around forever. Economic realities care little about whether a company is good or not.

- Comment on Google’s use of student data could effectively ban Chromebooks from Denmark schools 9 months ago:
Absolutely same. I hate having them in my house, supporting them, and dealing with them when they shit the bed because they’re too underpowered to run a fucking web browser. School systems need to stop buying these goddamn things and stop caving to slimy salespeople selling Chrome plugins for schoolwork.

I’m sure that is the case, however I no longer use chromium browsers due to Googleks behavior and I only use Firefox as a backup. If a site is going to be this egregious to prevent me from reading their content, I am no longer interested in what they have to say.

Moving to Safari for main browser, Firefox for backup. No more chromium engines for me.

You can parent your children all day long and everything is just fine at home. As soon as your kids are unleashed into the world of school, it’s anything goes. Your child is immediately subjected to all the poor and awful parenting that is outside your control. The only thing you can do is give them skills to navigate those situations. Sounds like @sunbeam60@lemmy.one did just that. Bravo.
- Comment on Great news — social media is falling apart 1 year ago:
Facebook will never die. Too many people in third-world countries rely on Facebook for internet access. Facebook is happy to provide free connectivity to keep people hooked in countries like Philippines. They mask the images and videos in FB Messenger, but then provide a very ad-heavy Facebook lite experience for free. They brokered a deal with the carriers in these countries for this. Facebook is here to stay for a very, very long time.

They’re doing their own version of this, not Google’s. It’s equally bad.
- Comment on Google Chrome pushes ahead with targeted ads based on your browser history 1 year ago:
But the advertisers do see the demographics and effectiveness of their ads being served. That’s a pretty good peek into browser histories, even though it’s not as minute as the statement leads you to believe.
Still, it’s too much.
Glad I’m not using Chrome.
