- Comment on if you ever traveled 1K miles by bus, would you recommend it? 2 months ago:
It really depends on the kind of buses I think.
I did a lot of traveling in South America and it was a great way to see different countries. A lot of the buses were pretty luxurious with 180 degree reclining seats, meals and bus attendants to give your blankets and things. You could rest comfortably during the night trips. I also met some interesting people along the way. Some trips were horrible too, but at least I have the stories.
I probably wouldn’t do it in the US. Don’t know about other countries.
Can you actually extend the trip and stay at some hotels/hostels or something along the way? If the buses are comfortable, and you have the time and budget, i think it would be great to visit three different countries, enjoy the foods and sites, meet people along the way, and have that time by yourself to do whatever you want.
- Comment on I feel like a flashbang went off in my head, so the only question that I can think of is, "What now?" (Details in body.) 2 months ago:
Love takes many forms. Caring for someone without the expectation of a benefit you want is a form of love. If my wife came down with MS and we could no longer have sex, I would still love her, respect her and admire the mother and life partner that she is. I would also be upset that I couldn’t have sex any more.
I personally would try to figure out the following, with or without professional help:
- Why is she depressed? She is going through a lot. She is probably scared you are going to abandon her when she needs someone the most. She may also hate the situation that you are in because of her illness. She is also probably angry at the world that she has to suffer this. She is also probably worried for her child and feels guilty that she can’t give her more. There are so many feelings she has to process, it may be easier to just shut down.
- If you remove the expectations of sex with her, would you be willing to stay with her as a caring and respectful partner and mother to your child?
- You might explore non-monogamy. That’s going to be a complicated conversation, but maybe something your wife is willing to explore. Just ensure it takes into consideration all the issues in the first point.
A good mother and partner is so hard to find. Love can take many forms. Don’t feel limited in your choices if you can make other options work out.

In their Fremont factory, Tesla had an area called the plantation for people of color. They also had racist graffiti throughout the plant. Musk is from apartheid era South Africa. I have a feeling his racism is deeply rooted in his life.

The transcript is below. It looks like the CEO definitely had it in mind and was hesitant to say it directly. The interviewer did a good job of getting them to admit it.

My personal pet peeve is people using “societal” when “social” is just as appropriate.
- Comment on Elon Musk calls for “criminal prosecution” of Twitter/X ad boycott perpetrators 4 months ago:
Social media’s impact on society is relevant to technology. I would even say it is one of the most important questions in relation to technology today. So, how an owner tries to silence criticisms of his social media site for spreading fascism seems relevant to me.
- Comment on Advice for layout 4 months ago:
I’ve got a Frankenstein setup that wasn’t really thought out that well when I started. I’ll probably end up changing it later. If you go the Proxmox route, check out the partitioning suggestions carefully before you begin.
I’ve got an old minitower that replaced a mini PC setup. I wanted to bring my hdd into the box and connect via SATA instead of an external HDD on USB. I’ll probably get a bigger case to make installing HDDs more convenient.
I don’t really understand the partitioning to be honest. I have a 512gb nvme that is split up into a couple of partitions for VMs, ISO’s, backups and things for Proxmox. Then I have some other HDDs and SSDs that I use for files. Nothing in raid yet, but I’m hoping to add a couple of more HDDs. Then I’ll connect them to OMV and put them in raid.
I’m currently hosting radarr, sonarr, prowlarr and overseerr. It’s really convenient.
- Comment on Advice for layout 4 months ago:
When I was in your shoes about 8 months ago, I opted for Proxmox and don’t regret it. Since then, I’ve been able to try different NAS OSs, experiment with different hosted services, etc. it gives you a lot of freedom to set up a VM, try a bunch of stuff, and then delete it and implement a fresh solution when you’re satisfied with something.
If you do that, you might consider having the operating system and VMs on one disk. If you decide on NAS software, many pass through the storage drives to the NAS directly.
I’m probably going to end up with the following: *Base Proxmox *NAS VM - OMV with NFS shares available to other services, SMB for the network *VM for -arr services *Plex on an LXC - a script helped me set the up *(Maybe) VM for home assistant *VM for other home services I need, like Immich *Testing VM
I hope this is helpful!
- Comment on Pros and cons of Proxmox in a home lab? 4 months ago:
For me, pros are:
- Fun to learn something new
- Easy to test different systems. For example, I can play with different router or NAS software without having a separate computer around.
- I’ve been able to create different “computers” that serve different needs and require different levels of security.
- Currently, a cluster is probably overkill, it was a fun experiment.
Cons
- Updating all the different systems can be a pain. I could probably automate it, but I haven’t made the time to learn it yet.
- As a beginner, I’m throwing a bunch of parts together and hoping it will work. I should probably be more strategic in my implementation, but I don’t know what to prioritize. I’m sure I’ll have to start over in the future.
- With the previous point, the storage setup doesn’t seem very intuitive. I probably need to set up that better.
- I haven’t quite figured out backups yet. My VM backups all seem too big. I need to figure that out and automate it.
Hope this is helpful.

The term “hallucinations” originally came from computer researchers working with image producing AI systems. I think you might be hallucinating yourself 😉

- Comment on Elon Musk’s Neuralink reports trouble with first human brain chip 6 months ago:
There are better options. Musk is just the one that doesn’t care about safety.
- Comment on Neuralink's first in-human brain implant has experienced a problem, company says 6 months ago:
I guess it is an old argument. How willing are we, as a society, to protect people from being taken advantage of by cons. Musk had been extremely resilient for a con man. Probably because he mainly goes after relatively poor people.
Musk’s companies aren’t the only ones making breakthroughs in their respective fields. The only difference between Musk companies and others is that Musk just didn’t care about safety, so good companies cut corners to make people think they are ahead. Other companies who are more responsible aren’t willing to cut those corners for ethical reasons.
- Comment on Neuralink's first in-human brain implant has experienced a problem, company says 6 months ago:
That is what makes this even more egregious. Musk doesn’t care about this guy in the slightest, except for the publicity that might help Musk raise more investor money. So Musk takes advantage of this desperation without any concern for long-term consequences. We know people left the company because of their ethical concerns. Those that remain probably just don’t care or aren’t on a position to do anything about the lack of ethics.

- Comment on Lawsuits test Tesla claim that drivers are solely responsible for crashes 6 months ago:
It’s so good many people trust it to much.
That’s the malignant part I mentioned. They trust it too much and end up running into a first responder, motorcycle or kid getting off a school bus. The aviation industry and many other industries have extensive knowledge how to avoid this very problem. Most other car companies implement systems to avoid it. Tesla just doesn’t really care that much.
My thoughts were also about phantom breaking, but I don’t know if it is still an issue.
By the way, I’m not downvoting you here.
- Comment on Lawsuits test Tesla claim that drivers are solely responsible for crashes 6 months ago:
They give 2 statistics, accidents and incidents. Accidents are crashes, incidents are crashes plus tickets.
Tesla has most accidents per driver. Ram has the most incidents - the report you mention. Tesla has the second most incidents.
So, Teslas still top the number is accidents. Agree, we would need a study to figure out if Tesla driving assist suite is either incompetent at driver safety or malignant to driver safety. Perhaps this lawsuit will shed some light on it.
- Comment on Lawsuits test Tesla claim that drivers are solely responsible for crashes 6 months ago:
In any case, I think we can dispel the myth that Tesla is one of the safest cars. They have the worst accident rates among all brands and their driving assist features either can’t keep idiots from making bad decisions or, worse, even amplify the dangerous effects that idiots create while driving.
- Comment on Lawsuits test Tesla claim that drivers are solely responsible for crashes 6 months ago:
Okay, so Tesla had the highest rate, but switching power train types seems problematic. It didn’t really say if other EVs are close to Tesla’s accident rates, or am I missing something?
- Comment on Lawsuits test Tesla claim that drivers are solely responsible for crashes 6 months ago:
The same stats run similar for other EV but nobody cares.
Where are you getting that number? The report just said Tesla had the highest accident rate of all brands.
- Comment on Lawsuits test Tesla claim that drivers are solely responsible for crashes 6 months ago:
They use the term “rate,” which would account for absolute numbers. So just because Tesla sells more EVs wouldn’t account for it.

Do you think current and prospective Tesla owners could escape the online marketing system that pumps this info into their online life? One of the reasons I started countering all the Musk bullshit was because I couldn’t escape their online marketing presence. It is everywhere. I might as well have fun fighting it. I’m sure that if you’ve clicked any Tesla marketing links, you’re inundated with their BS.
- Comment on Lawsuits test Tesla claim that drivers are solely responsible for crashes 6 months ago:
If only we could implement similar testing protocols to the aviation version to validate it’s safety!
