- Comment on ELDEN RING - Update 1.12.2 (Rebalanced Scadutree Blessings) 2 days ago:
Yeah that’s a potentially endless discussion right there. I actually think Sekiro was the hardest, even if it’s technically not a souls game. Part of what makes Elden Ring so easy is the number of tools and abilities to use, the summoning ashes, OP spells, and nearly always being able to summon two helper players for tough fights. Melania is so much like fighting Isshin, I think he’s way harder than her, and especially because you have to nail the timing with him. There’s no respeccing, using cheesy spells, or summoning help with that guy. Don’t get me wrong, Elden Ring is a great game, but most of the difficulty is easily overcome by just trying out the other stuff you can use.

I don’t, they are right, I can create mynown challenge. It’s not really what I’m annoyed about either, its the whole design by a committee of vocal internet people which results in the same bland shit over and over. Part of what made these games cool is the things that are unique, and often times the most memorable moments are also the most difficult. Seeing From pivot because a bunch of people whined about it is just disappointing really. There was a time where the tag line for Dark Souls was “Prepare to Die”, but come down the line to Elden Ring and you can really feel how they’ve softened that edge up. The DLC feels like they sharpened the blade for its final outing, and people want it dulled immediately. To me that’s boring. Embrace the challenge and what you will remember and be satisfied by is overcoming it.

I likely will run my RL1 guy through it at some point. Man I really hit a nerve with the participation trophies for everyone crowd here, didn’t I?

I really tried to pick two things that couldn’t be argued with so now I’m just waiting for someone to tell me they don’t like breathing either.

Thats why you just gotta keep eating more. More flavor! Also yes some definitely have more flavor than others, I’m no good at picking them but if you cut it open and it’s deep red you’re probably in for a good tome.

Every time this comes up I gotta say, who the fuck doesn’t like fried chicken and watermelon?! It’s like making fun of someone for liking sunshine and the ability to breathe. Not that I needed another reason to point at racists and call them a bunch of fucked up morons, but goddamn they are bunch of fucked up morons.

Arkane used to be one of my favorites. They were amazing at creating games full of scenarios you could tackle in a variety of ways, where creative use of the tools and powers available was rewarding and fun. When they announced a multiplayer title I was excited to see how they would adapt this formula to encourage teamwork in a similarly simulated environment, but what we got seemed like it was built by an entirely different group of people. Maybe it was, I’m sure the staff changed over time, and maybe that’s the problem with development studios having a reputation instead of the people behind it. Either way, what they made was universally panned, to the point that it’s now killed this legendary name in gaming. What I ask now is why we would want a single player version of this thing, that seems to be a perversely messed up version of what they used to make. It was developed to be cooperative, and in doing so cut the elements that made their single player adventures so engaging. At best, its a shadow of what could have been. I get the merits of making this still playable for those who own it, but are they really coming back to play it more, or is this just for the principle of the thing? I guess it doesn’t matter, but it’s sad to see this as the end of Arkane. I wish we could have got a decent sequel to Prey or Dishonored instead. Maybe its good they didn’t shit on one of those franchises instead. I hope someone shits on the executive that ruined Arkane.

My opinion is that to be truly decentralized we should do both. Not just physically decentralize by location, but decentralized in a sense of having multiple options. We should do solar, and wind, and nuclear power. The power output of solar and wind is just not where it needs to be to replace both nuclear and fossil fuels, so I do have to argue in favor of building more nuclear power, but that doesn’t mean I am against building any other renewables as well.
- Comment on We can do all three things at once 1 month ago:
So this kind of got lost in the weeds, and I see the argument below. The real reason I wont provide sources is partly because it is very easy to look up, and the reality is I could write a thesis with a ton of fucking sources and never cover it all. Typically, in an actual scientific debate, the onus is on you to provide a source which debunks my claims. However, I can give a short summary with some general, but verifiable numbers. I did a quick search for all of this, and most of it is on wikipedia with sources listed.
The average American nuclear power plant provides about 800-1000MW of energy, and has a life time of about 35-40 years. The US has 88 of them, most of which have been running since the 70s. Their age means many should be considered for decommissioning soon, but since we haven’t been building new ones to replace them the old ones continue to be serviced while we seek alternatives.
America’s largest solar farm produces ~350MW, which is less than half of a nuclear plant. That’s actually pretty decent, but this is the high end of the scale for solar, and this output is only achievable in perfect conditions (weather, daytime, location). At night it produces nothing. So the major problem many solar / wind enthusiasts ignore when discussing this is what happens then? How do we store enough power to sustain a city, or something larger, through every night? Those mighty big batteries aren’t eco friendly either, since at the moment our best option is lithium. That may change soon but we can’t really move on maybe.
My point to start with was that we should have never stopped building nuclear - we could have pushed fossil fuel out ages ago, but lobbyists really fucked that. Solar is great, but we need like 200 more of those major solar farms and an absolute fuckload of massive batteries, and the logistics of that is a nightmare that is unlikely to see fruition in time. It will be a long time before we have enough solar / wind to do more than supplement our power grid. We should keep building it in the meantime, but it is also a slow process, much like building nearly any large scale power generation.
To be clear, I am in favor of both. Nuclear should have always been the back bone of our power grid. Solar should be coming online as supplementary power supply allowing us to decentralize and support the transition to greener tech. This is not an either/or situation - we really need both, or fossil fuels will royally fuck our planet first. Maybe someday we will be efficient enough to go all solar, but expecting it to replace fossil fuels AND nuclear in the near future is just unrealistic idealism. We will die before hitting such ideal goals - in the meantime we must compromise.

The number of people who still think nuclear is bad and solar / wind will make up for it is really depressing. We could have had an unrivaled nuclear power infrastructure but those NIMBY assholes stopped it 50 years ago and now we rely on extending existing plants past their lifetimes while running in fucking circles about how to save the planet. Has anyone who wants to “go green” without nuclear ever looked at the power output of these things?? It’s not even the same league! AaagggghHhHhhhhhhhh
- Comment on After promising free DLC forever to some players, Escape from Tarkov locks a new PvE mode behind $250 edition 2 months ago:
Now this is some grade A bullshit right here. I haven’t played this game in ages, so all the extra crap in a $150 edition is news to me. Good god I would never ever buy that, but these people that did have every right to be pissed. The verbal gymnastics these guys are doing to pretend this doesn’t count as DLC is just absurd. Asking $100 for ANY PvE game is ridiculous at best. Tacking that on in addition to a $150 price tag is so bonkers I need to go buy a thesaurus to continue describing it. WTF. Who the hell is buying this!!! Whhhhyyyyyy???

Its kind of crazy how woke is used as an insult. Its like there’s this huge cult of people that are sleeping in a coma for the past 50 years going “we’re fucking ignorant and proud of it!” It’s difficult to fathom just how dumb you need to be to be proud of being that fucking dumb. I’m waiting for a “let us drink more lead” movement to come out next
- Comment on Over 10 years later 7 Days to Die is going to leave Early Access 2 months ago:
Its kind of crazy they will actually raise the price for this. Last I played it was janky as hell, looks over 10 years old, and at this point it’s been mostly forgotten about. If you haven’t bought it by now I don’t think a price increase is going to grab a lot of new customers.

I actually loved this album. This is just the song that got most of the radio play. Tonight, tonight and 1979 are the other radio play songs which represent the overall band better, in my opinion.
- Comment on dun dun dundun 2 months ago:
Its a reference to Bullet with Butterfly Wings - by Smashing Pumpkins. An old 90s song all us middle aged Americans heard on the radio so much that even people who don’t like that band would probably recognize it

- Comment on We all understand what being 'banned' means. Some of us have been there. But, what about shadow banning? Why not alert users are banned? 2 months ago:
Its because when people get banned they often just make a new account to circumvent the ban. Shadow banning means they dont realize right away and continue to post their bullshit on that account until they figure it out. Some people might figure it out quickly, but in many cases it will take months or more to realize. That person is effectively silenced in the mean time. Its only a temporary solution, but it apparently works pretty well. If its a bot they might not ever figure it out.

- Comment on Check out the Humble Heroines Bundle with A Plague Tale: Innocence, Chorus and more 3 months ago:
I played some of these.
A Plague Tale was good, it had some interesting puzzle elements and stealth sections that I enjoyed. The major thing through out is using fire and other environmental elements to manipulate guards, rat swarms, and some mechanisms in order to proceed. One of these days I’ll snag the sequel.
Chorus was pretty great to me, although I got a little tired of it by the end. The main thing here is getting through the beginning until you get your powers. When you do you can basically pull a drift maneuver that lets you rotate freely in space and then accelerate in whatever direction you’re facing. This allows for some major tight turns and being able to shoot sideways as you pass enemies and continue shooting at their backside as you continue floating the other way. Further powers grant even more maneuvers later. This was really fun to me because it eliminates the circling around that so many flight games suffer from, and really let me fly differently. Really sets it apart from any other flying games I’ve played.
Metal: Hellsinger is a lot like BPM, with its own changes. I need to play more of this, but if you’re a metal fan the soundtrack is pretty cool and gets more intense the better you play. Shooting to the beat is tough, but doing every action (dash, reload, special) to the beat really takes practice.
- Comment on EA just added classics like Dungeon Keeper, SimCity 3000, and Populous on Steam 3 months ago:
Populous The Beginning! I never played the other populous games but I have some very fond memories of this one. As a kid I just loved using spells to reshape the worlds and mess with the enemy AI. Dropping a volcano in the middle of their village and watching them go nuts was always so much fun.
