- Comment on EA flop Immortals of Aveum reportedly cost around $125 million, former dev says "a AAA single-player shooter in today's market was a truly awful idea" 9 months ago:
We should expect more of that with the upcoming UE5 titles. The devs that have devoted to releasing those seem to have very hard time optimising - they’ll likely expect us all to just own 4090s and still run their game with DLSS ultra performance or other fake frames.
STALKER 2 will have the janky soul we expect from the series, but this mostly, mostly due to engine choice and apparent attempts to visually impress the player. Or the investors.
- Comment on Baldur’s Gate 3 boss says gamers don’t want mass subscriptions 10 months ago:
It’s not even about what we want, but what the stakeholders and decision-makers push for in order to rack in more profits.
The gaming industry was at its highest in terms of fun and variability and innovation when the industry was still figuring out best ways to make mad money, no matter how ethical or morally bankrupt - now they know they can use fear of missing out and predatory tactics to lure people into essentially gambling in a free-to-play online game, or pad out a singleplayer one with mechanics that contribute nothing to the gameplay, but manage to fool game journalists (the ones that weren’t already paid) into praising the game for its deep and branching loops, attracting more investor money or something.
A lot of people accuse us gamers of being a whiny crowd that cares too much and doesn’t like to have fun, but I guess yeah, we do care a little too much and that’s why so many of us try to actively influence the industry to go into a better direction when we vote with our wallets or write reviews or discuss games and practices in ways that can be hopefully seen by the industry’s decision-makers.
Not to say there isn’t just as many (if not more) gamers that don’t care enough and still pour money into games and practices that are ultimately making the industry worse, only to make the stakeholders and CEOs wealthier.

Would you happen to know how that compares to saying “Fuck it” and going with a Java career for the relative predictability? I’m not asking for any particular reasons, just curious.
- Comment on Does anyone else feel like Kurzgesagt is describing the Fediverse in their latest video? 11 months ago:
I think we’ll collectively figure it out with time and have more specific, yet popular instances, rather than instances trying to be the all-places with communities. Like an instance for memes where communities act as sub-categories or something.
But I maybe wrong, I’m not on oracle or something.
- Comment on Does anyone else feel like Kurzgesagt is describing the Fediverse in their latest video? 11 months ago:
I feel like it’s unlikely to happen regardless of the userbase. Fediverse as a whole seems to have been built on different merits and it’s curated by the large corporations, so they won’t be coming here with their algorithms and ad-revenue and thirst for profits and engagement.
The biggest difference between Fediverse and the old-school internet websites, like forums and blogs and such, is that Fediverse is relatively easily intertwined; it’s an ecosystem that consists of autonomous small-ish communities that get to choose whether and what they share. If you want, you can basically make one account, subscribe to as much shit from the Fediverse as you like, and have it all come to your curated feed (defederation happens, though) - or you can treat it all as separate platforms and have one account for each, with occasional guests hopping by (like you’re with d.gs and I’m with feddit.de).
Even if there are platforms that later use the same protocols to try and get some profits, they’ll most likely be out of everyone’s memory much like Threads (remember that?) because it’s just not the same as creating some kind of “everything platform” and have people walled off there to “engage” with rage-inducing content and have them (hopefully) generate ad revenue.

I should try something like that next time I try to go lucid. Somehow I only stuck to flying around and flying through walls whenever I knew I was dreaming… feels like a waste now that I think of firing guns or using telekinesis.

- Comment on Now that we've had SF for a bit, what do you think? Good, flawed, bad? 1 year ago:
That’s unironically much simpler, easier, and quicker compared to what you and I want. I the development world, stuff that’s quick and easy to fix often gets a higher priority so people just over it and focus on something that takes much more attention and resources for a longer period of time.
But I’m basically coping here because I really do hope they come around to enhancing the ship builder to be even more customizable and robust. At least lemme choose my door and ladders placement.

Same. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one thinking about these things - I’ve seen many people complaining about then in other places as well.
If only that convinced Bethesda to patch the ship builder and make it a true masterpiece…

Thanks for your work! Mind DM’ing me the name of the quest? My current playthrough involves a lot of ship fights and boarding enemy ships, so I’d hate to fall victim to the bug and may skip the quest altogether.
- Comment on Now that we've had SF for a bit, what do you think? Good, flawed, bad? 1 year ago:
I am going to try and say something I haven’t yet seen in this thread.
- The ship builder gets a big like for me because I always wanted to wander around big spaceships. I really like the fact that I can walk around the interiors and build my own designs, even if I’m bad at it.
- The POIs are identical, and that’s horrible. As much emphasis was put on exploration, this is even a bigger disappointment, because once you’ve seen one X, you’seen every X, down to every single entity placement. This really kills the joy of the entire game for me and I feel angry thinking back to Howard’s words about how the game could be played for hours, months, years - like, doing what, exactly?
Aside from that, yeah, pretty much what everybody said: dialogue is boring and censored (like, advertiser/stakeholder friendly), the game is very “take it safe” in important regards, but there’s enough story and quests to have fun with the mechanics that actually work.
Overall, it’s flawed, but a definite 6/10 - it’s just not the game Bethesda made us think it is, again.

Creation Kit - a set of tools that makes modding the game much easier and extensive, allowing the community to build more impressive mods for the game, usually quicker than without one because the community doesn’t need to reverse engineer everything before they can make really advanced stuff.

- Comment on Good way to get into manageable ship combat? (To level up pilot skill) 1 year ago:
Nah, that tactic with singling them out by creating distance is probably the easiest way with most ships. You could also build a corner ship so there’s nothing in its middle (the ship builder interface will always have it’s center in ship’s center of mass) - the AI aims for the middle of your ship, so if there’s nothing there, they can’t hit you. That way you’re going to be able to avoid most hits and have enough time to regenerate your shields between the hits they manage to connect.
Safe travels.
- Comment on So why don't npcs have a daily cycle? None of them sleeo or eat! 1 year ago:
Sorry, best we can do is split the game into DLCs and several editions to extort more money out of people, all while outsourcing the game to nearly every other game company in the world and expect you to whip out $1,000+ for a GPU that may or may not run the game at 60 GPS at 1080p without fake resolutions and frames; also please buy premium and support our small indie studio.
Jokes aside, loving the game, just feeling pissy over the predatory ways the gaming industry has embraced in the last several years.
- Comment on Wish list 1 year ago:
Shop building needs some way to designate where exactly your habs will have doors and ladders when adjacent to other habs in a way that allows for multiple connections. Making full loops would also be nice. Being able to build the interior of a hab would be the nicest.
- Comment on Todd Howard asked on-air why Bethesda didn't optimise Starfield for PC: 'We did [...] you may need to upgrade your PC' 1 year ago:
They don’t think that. They just know that the people will pay up anyway, bringing in the profits for shareholders and the C-suite, and that’s all that matters.
The DLCs, cosmetics, MTX, etc. are all pretty much alive and well despite everything just because enough people cash out, so why change their ways?
AAA gaming is a big industry, and big industries are nothing wholesome.
