That doesn’t work for me, I need a home button in the browser to take me to the dashboard.
My workflow is open browser and I’m on my dashboard and I select something like my selfhosted paperless-ngx and now I want to get back to my dashboard again to check go to sonarr. Right now that is one button press on home. Then I’m done with sonarr and I want to open my to do list, again just press home button. Every other method is more than one button press and less efficient. I shouldn’t have to be less efficient because Firefox doesn’t have a basic feature that every other browser has had since the beginning of time.
This has been a known problem with Firefox for 5+ years. And what’s worse is that at one point in the past, Firefox mobile did have the ability to add a custom URL to the homepage but at some point they broke it. And they have very little care to fix it. Just look at the comments in the github issue, plenty of people care about it.

Yeah, but that’s still an extra step to click home then click on that shortcut that I don’t want to do. I want to press home and be instantly on my dashboard which I spent a lot of time customizing for myself. I don’t want to see Firefox’s shitty dashboard before I get to mine.

You can’t set the home button to a custom URL… please learn to read, thanks.

Says the person that understands a fraction of what I do… time for you to crack a book son.
- Comment on It's never been a better time to switch to Firefox 11 months ago:
I can’t comprehend how you fail to understand that on FF mobile, you fucking moron, not desktop but mobile you do not get an option to set a custom URL for the home button.
- Comment on It's never been a better time to switch to Firefox 11 months ago:
And you’re annoying… it would have taken you 5 seconds to open FF on your phone if you use it to see that you were wrong instead of trying to incorrectly correct me.
- Comment on It's never been a better time to switch to Firefox 11 months ago:
Doesn’t let you set the homepage to a custom URL in FF mobile… are you slow?
- Comment on It's never been a better time to switch to Firefox 11 months ago:
You realize that there is difference between FF mobile and FF desktop, right?
- Comment on It's never been a better time to switch to Firefox 11 months ago:
No, you can’t set it to your own homepage… I have a selfhosted dashboards that I want to load by pressing the home button.
- Comment on It's never been a better time to switch to Firefox 11 months ago:
No home button is absolutely pathetic. I never stopped using FF on desktop, but until FF mobile gets a home button it’s not going to be installed on my phones.
- Comment on The Verge Takes on Self-Hosting for the Masses 1 year ago:
I want to present my files - wherever they may be - to all sorts of different applications which let me interact with them in different ways.
Only some self-hosted software grants us this portability.
I’d say most of it does with Samba shares and docker bind mounts. With Samba shares the data is presented across network to my Kodi clients, the file browser on my phone, and the file browsers of all my computers. And with docker bind mounts those files are presented to any services that I want to run.
- Comment on Are phone notification LEDs still a thing? 1 year ago:
That’s not true, it didn’t work that way. You could set it for individual notifications and even have custom colors. I would have it orange for K9 emails and Green for text messages and red for a missed call… it was extremely versatile and much better than screen always on which I always disable on my phones.
- Comment on YouTube cracking on ad blockers. 1 year ago:
You can block ads on Twitch… I use S0undTV on my firesticks and never see ads.
- Comment on Is it possible to make my data worthless? 1 year ago:
Where did I claim advertisersing wasn’t previously manipulative? I’m concerned with the new scale and effectiveness of it… again, see the Cambridge Anyltica scandal for reference.
- Comment on Is it possible to make my data worthless? 1 year ago:
I think we will see tooling for data-poisoning, and it will become a valid counter-measure for maintaining privacy.
- Comment on Is it possible to make my data worthless? 1 year ago:
You’re thinking little picture, your data specifically isn’t worth anything. Your data with everyone else’s data is worth a lot because they can use it to manipulate society. The Cambridge Anyltica scandal was a proof of concept… and you are not impervious to it.
- Comment on Introducing Raspberry Pi 5 1 year ago:
It isn’t, you can get SFF PCs for as little as $80 on eBay.
- Comment on Smartphone sales down 22 percent in Q2, the worst performance in a decade 1 year ago:
You can flash the bootloader too.
- Comment on New Raspberry Pi 5 comes with PCIe 2.0 x1 interface and power button 1 year ago:
Why anyone bothers with Pi Foundation boards any longer is beyond me, there are so many better SBCs. The rockpro64 launched a full year before the Rpi4, back in 2018, and had PCIe, SATA cards, NIC cards, and a sweet NAS case to go with it. It could boot from USB drives right away, unlike the Rpi4, it didn’t have power supply issues unlike the Rpi4, and it had eMMC support unlike the Rpi4, among many other benefits.
- Comment on Self-hosted app to view sever health? 1 year ago:
Some dashboards can do this, check out homepage as one example. Really you should not rely on checking status pages for health but instead set up monitoring and notifications.

I don’t see any evidence that they would target the whales given proper funding. Your entire argument hinges on that, and it has no basis.
- Comment on If you resold Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets, the IRS is watching — A new rule from the IRS is punishing those who resold tickets for more than $600 in profit with a tax penalty 1 year ago:
Passing the buck in my opinion.

For real, most of the comments are about the scalpers but this is the only thing that stood out to me. The IRS has consistently shown they would rather net the little fish that can’t fight back than take down the whales. Another example of being beyond the law in this country if you have money.

But keep your eyes on it and don’t write it off. I don’t know how old you are, but it’s still likely to end up the most effective choice for you at some point in your lifetime. Certainly in your children’s.
Oh yeah, for sure, I keep an eye on all these types of things because at the end of the day, I’m a cheap bastard, and love long-term savings. I am going to go with the option with the highest positive expected value for me, but heat pumps are not there for my climate just right now.
- Comment on Oxford study proves heat pumps triumph over fossil fuels in the cold 1 year ago:
Right but efficiency doesn’t mean it’s better. Electric heat has always been 100% efficient, but that does not make it the most cost effective nor best solution.

It’s crowdsourced and works quite well, been using it for the last year.

SmartTubeNext. You can turn shorts off. It blocks ads. And it has sponsorblock so it is configurable to additionally skip sponsor segments, self-promotion, intros, outros.

I probably haven’t thought if it for like 10 years myself but this post reminded me of it. I remember maybe 15 years ago using a portable version of it on a USB drive, and it was amazing.
