Heard from a local cop that it had something to do with the union. If the department wants to implement a standard the union would require something or other. Something about an incentive? I didn’t get the whole picture obviously. I know police need unions in case somebody sues them but does seem kind of dumb that it’s so difficult to enforce a physical standard.
- Comment on Why is having a lawyer present during police interviews "opt in" rather than "opt out"? 2 weeks ago:
Came here to say this. There’s even been movements like you find in the book Rebooting Justice to try and essentially digitize menial legal matters so that lawyers just have to put the finishing touches on them. I wonder how involved AI will get in the next 5-10 years.
Also 2nd the point on choosing not to exercise certain rights. You have the right to free speech but you may not feel like talking, etc
- Comment on Why is lemmy so political?! 2 weeks ago:
Respectfully I’d disagree. I can’t scroll through most of my meme or shitposting communities without seeing some politically flavored post, and there’s some kind of political comment on probably 85% of those posts. I get politics is an important topic but people often don’t have the class to keep politics out of the more “fun” communities. I keep to my subscribed list, block the spammers, but it’s fairly pervasive. I suppose that’s not all a bad thing as I get on social media a lot less atm. If you’ve got any additional tips though I’d love to hear them.

This is how I do it- my folders and files are super easy to find

Probably because the question is political in nature and people are fed up of seeing it outside of political subs. I know this is nostupidquestions but during (American) election season especially it’s somewhat an etiquette to exercise political hygiene.
