- Comment on ‘I was a multimillionaire, I had a beautiful girlfriend, I was unhappy’: the ups and downs of a supertrader 1 week ago:
The share price does reflect the worth of the company in that a low share price will prevent companies from taking on loans to expand or keep operating. That was the whole idea behind the GameStop shorting saga. Also, the share price also benefits those that hold a majority of the shares. Musk is the richest man on earth because he holds the most Tesla shares. He can use the fact he owns these shares in order to take out loans with great conditions and to buy influence.

You may not pay the company when you buy shares from another trader, but you buying the shares drives the price of the shares and with that it makes the company more valuable.

Overall, I think that any mod or admin should use another account to post personal takes. Use the moderator account only for meration and post any personal takes on a personal account.

To be pedantic, one is a simple news messgae, the other seems to be the headline of a longer article or opinion piece. I bet you can find a simple news message of Russia closing news stations.

I no longer see separated up- and downvotes for comments and neither an option to change that in the settings, despite the changelogs mentioning it. Any ideo what’s up with that?

Seems a little bit unfair to me that a reusable launch system can be grounded for issues on the way back, when discarding launch systems do not have to content with that.

- Comment on Why do hacked channels on youtube always post Tesla/SpaceX stuff? 6 months ago:
You’ll find that most Tesla/SpaceX hacked channels promote shitcoins or some form of “You send me 10 Bitcoin and I’ll send you 20 back” scam. This is because Elon himself is promoting or has promoted dubious coins as well (i.e. Dodgecoin). I think Elon stans are just the perfect blend of tech hypers and technologically illiterate people that would most likely be unable to differentiate between “legitimate” Elon promotion and those scams.

I think the real upsetting thing isn’t Biden’s performance, or havong Biden as president four more years. He achieved quite a bit after all. The real upsetting thing is the DNC being such cunts that they even pushed for this debate, hoping that Biden could win, only to deny and ignore Biden’s abhorrent performance immediately after. That Bernie got shafted twice by them, that is the really upsetting part.

Wait wait wait, hold your horses. Do you mean to tell me, that the oil industry doesn’t care for this protest, or any protest for that matter? I’m shocked! Shocked, I tell you. It’s almost as if this protest wasn’t meant to impress the oil exec-types…
- Comment on BBC News - Stonehenge covered in powder paint by Just Stop Oil 7 months ago:
Because that doesn’t make the headlines.

"They are sensitive and they are completely covered in prehistoric markings which remain to be fully studied and any surface damage to the stones is hugely concerning.
Bullshit. There is next to no other historic site that has been studied in greater detail. If no scientist up until now has created a detailed map of what is to find on those stones, then frankly, it’s their own fault.
If anything, they should be concerned about acidic rain caused by air pollution. But you don’t hear much about that, now do you?

Let’s be real here. What could climate protesters do that wouldn’t get them bad attention? History has shown: Nothing. There is nothing they could do that wouldn’t get them bad attention. In Germany, they even got cussed out for blocking private jets.
Face it: The powerful do not fear retaliation from the masses if they vilify climate protesters. The protesterscannot win the PR battle. So all they have left is publicity stunts. And as far as publicity stunts go, plastering stones with water-soluble paint is about as tame as it gets. - Comment on BBC News - Stonehenge covered in powder paint by Just Stop Oil 7 months ago:
It’s either this or ineffectual protests that get swept under the rug and ignored. You should be happy that their protest is purely cosmetic too.

This post was updated at 6:33 pm Eastern to fix some line-break issues in the Torvalds blockquote. The irony was duly noted. A better link regarding the Tabs Vs. Spaces debate was also swapped in.
I like this disclosure.

- Comment on New Discord TOS binds you to forced arbitration - Opt-Out Now 9 months ago:
It has to be noted that this applies to US citizens. For EU citizens the arbitration rules do not apply. Instead, they get an EU body that handles disputes:
If you reside in the European Union, you may also be entitled to submit your complaint to the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) Platform or the Out-of-Court Dispute Settlement (“OCDS”) mechanism under DSA Article 21.
