12 years… fuck…

Give yourself to science instead. Surely there are some companies hoping to try new products on live specimens.
Maybe some trippy new drug. Maybe hornets for eyes. Not sure how that all works.

Sorry, it was nearly a year ago, I don’t remember the exact details. I’m an experienced IT specialist and they were not common issues I could easily debug and resolve myself. All I remember is I followed some tutorials to address some errors, which ended up creating other errors. I gave up after a couple consecutive evenings of troubleshooting.

I had high hopes for Atlas for gaming.
I formatted and started a fresh install. My main games (League Of Legends, Escape from Tarkov) would not install, with various errors. Then I ran into system errors with permissions.

Elden Ring. Waiting for a game + DLC bundle because I refuse to buy DLCs on their own.

I have same CPU and GPU, with C: on an M.2 (Read 7200 MB/s - Write 5700 MB/s) and 32GB DDR5. When I right-click my desktop/wallpaper, I have the blue spinning wheel for 3 or 4 seconds before the menu opens 😬

That’s it? You just need to say “you know this actor character we call Tom Cruise in our show, and does the same stuff as the real actor Tom cruise in real life, it’s actually a fictional character unrelated to the real Tom Cruise in real life” and you Gucci?

My gaming time has drastically reduced since our first kid was born. I still manage to get an hour or two in the evening (if we don’t watch a movie/series). On the other hand, I noticed I start getting bored of lengthy games and want to switch to something else around the 20 hours mark.
What helped me, is finding and playing well-rated singleplayer games that can be completed in only a few seatings, typically <10 hours. I use howlongtobeat.com.
But I also come back to endless games (Escape From Tarkov or League Of Legends) when I have friends to play with. You gotta find the balance that fits your schedule and tastes, without turning gaming into a chore.

I know it is due an upgrade… but I can’t really convince myself to spend 1000€ on a new rig (mobo, cpu, cooling, DDR5, M.2) when I am still able to do anything I want with this decade old CPU.

The only game I’m having stutters in is Escape From Tarkov (CPU intensive, and optimized for single-core).
Other than that, It runs everything I throw at it without a flinch.

Follow-up question for American# : when happens of you pay for, say 50$ and end up only filling up 40$. Can you go back to the cashdesk and ask for a refund on the difference?
- Comment on How can you drive off a gas station with the hose still connected? 9 months ago:
The pump doesn’t auto-start when you unhook the nozzle from the pump. I think the cashier has to manually allow it to start, from their control system/computer.
So I suspect they wouldn’t let it start if you look shady (hooded, no plates) and they suspect you may run it off.
For example if you ride a motorbike, the cashier sometimes doesn’t start the pump until you uncover your face (allowing cameras to see your face).
But otherwise, we either pay at the fill-up then go pay at the desk (yes they can be a waiting line if there are more pumps than open cashdesks) or pay directly at the pump by card/contactless (modern pumps). It locks a sum on your card, say 200EUR, and when you hook the nozzle back it adjusts the payment transaction to only the amount consumed and debits you.
- Comment on How can you drive off a gas station with the hose still connected? 9 months ago:
Thanks for the responses.
TIL: Americans pay first, then fill. Now I can understand how you could easily get distracted once it is in and locked.
To clarify : this is absolutely impossible to accidentally happen in the EU, because the payment transaction isn’t completed until the nozzle is placed back onto its support (that’s when the pump shuts off).
- Comment on How can you drive off a gas station with the hose still connected? 9 months ago:
We also have trigger-locks on EU pumps.

- Comment on How can you drive off a gas station with the hose still connected? 9 months ago:
In the EU the nozzle handle also has a lock-in mechanism. But it looks like the main difference is that in the EU we can’t pay until the nozzle is placed back on the support. That’s what stops the pumping. Until then you’re still paying.
- Comment on How can you drive off a gas station with the hose still connected? 9 months ago:
Yeah, same here (most of Europe).
But I think Americans pay first then fill.
