Did anyone else find the sound of its footsteps just as disturbing as its movements? Think about what a platoon of them would sound like marching down the street.

The bloom was off the rose pretty early with people that know about cars. I remember seeing a video of an engineering team disassembling one a few years after they launched and finding all sorts of crazy assembly problems that you’d think would have been worked out by then. I’m talking about bad welds, some not in the correct place, and random bolts rattling around in door panels, that kind of stuff. I give them credit for capturing the collective imagination on what an electric car could be and championing them as cool. But they still have a lot of work to do to catch up in the quality and reliability realm compared to established car companies. The fact that they have significantly less moving parts yet still haven’t been shown to be more reliable than a lot of ICE vehicles says something.
- Comment on HP exec says quiet part out loud when it comes to locking in print customers 11 months ago:
I picked up a refurbished Xerox b&w laser printer 5 years ago. It never gives me problems, and the toner lasts forever. One of the best tech purchases I’ve ever made.

Imaging being so insufferable you literally go around ridiculing how strangers communicate.

I just did this while painting my foyer, around the same height. You’ll be fine with a towel over the end of the ladder.
- Comment on US kids want games subscriptions and virtual currency more than games this Christmas 11 months ago:
Just dropping a gift recommendation for younger kids with a Nintendo Switch. Kirby and the Forgotten Land. A few years old at this point, but my two younger kids still play the heck out of it. It’s wholesome, and doesn’t have any in game purchases or online subscription.
- Comment on Amazon staff walk out in Black Friday strike 11 months ago:
Black Friday in store traffic has been dropping for years in the States. Mostly because of extended online sales weeks before Black Friday, and consumers getting wise to the fact stores raise prices in the preceding weeks so they can mark prices down around Black Friday. Not sure what it’s like in the UK now, but I hope it’s also in decline. Oddly enough, the only people I personally know here in the US going shopping today are my family that are UK citizens.

An Apple TV box doesn’t have ads.
- Comment on Security researcher warns of chilling effect after feds search phone at airport | TechCrunch 1 year ago:
If he was a US citizen he can’t be turned away at the border. Also still pretty sure a citizen has the right to refuse a search without a warrant.
- Comment on Security researcher warns of chilling effect after feds search phone at airport | TechCrunch 1 year ago:
The concerning part of this is that he unlocked his phone. The Feds were certainly within their authority to stop someone they felt was involved in a crime, but I don’t believe you are obligated to unlock your phone for authorities unless they have a warrant. Kind of like when a cop pulls you over for speeding then asks to search your car, you don’t have to say yes, but a lot of people think it’s some sort of order, not a request. I’m no expert though.

Here is an interview from Wired with a scientist in this field of study discussing what Neuralink is doing as well as it’s similarities and differences to other brain implants. It might make you a bit less cynical. youtu.be/Gv_XB6Hf6gM?si=DJDw-ljuP8D1Frj8

I assume those of you downvoting this comment think I’m a Musk fanboy. I’m not. Or you assume I don’t care about the animals. You’re partially correct. It sucks they died. But, it’s the best way to test this kind of technology before human trials, there are no better substitutes. I’m ok with sacrificing animal lives to save human ones. Downvote away.
- Comment on Terrible Things Happened to Monkeys After Getting Neuralink Implants, According to Veterinary Records 1 year ago:
Neuralink is doing important research and their product has the potential to really help disabled people. Musk shouldn’t gloss over what happened to the test animals, he should say the truth which is, doing neuro surgery on anything and preventing complications is extremely difficult. My dad could benefit from this type of product and it’s offensive to hear people accuse Neuralink of taking advantage of disabled people like they are unable to make rational choices. There already are orgs and companies putting similar wired brain implants into human subjects. It is the job of regulators to ensure they are ready to take that step, regardless of what Musk says or does. We should put our Musk hate aside and be happy the science is being advanced and could do some good for people that really need it.

Not defending Ford here. But when this all gets ironed out we need to be supporting union workers by choosing union made products and services. Those that are saying they won’t buy a Ford now, that’s your choice, but I hope you’re doing your research and choosing other automobiles that are union instead. Here is a 2023 list of all the UAW built vehicles: uaw.org/solidarity_magazine/…/amp/

- Comment on Car companies like Honda, BMW, and Hyundai are banding together to build an EV-charging network bigger than Tesla's Supercharger empire 1 year ago:
There were some Japanese manufacturers still selling cars with CHAdeMO the last time I checked. But they may have switched over by now, that was a couple years ago.
- Comment on Car companies like Honda, BMW, and Hyundai are banding together to build an EV-charging network bigger than Tesla's Supercharger empire 1 year ago:
I’m glad they plan on having both major charging plugs on the stations. But, this would be an ok time for some government regulation to dictate a plug format nationwide. Not having to worry about whether you will be able to charge your vehicle at a charging station would make the experience less stressful for new EV owners.

- Comment on How do yoy answer when a nurse asks you, "how are you doing today?" 1 year ago:
It’s their job to know how you are truly doing and what you’re there to be treated for, no decent nurse would be offended if you got right to the point. “Hi, I’ve been having lower abdominal pain for a couple days, if it weren’t for that, I’d be doing good.” If the straight forward approach seems weird, you can follow it up with other pleasantries.
