The problem with c/fuckcars is that a lot of people there aren’t people wanting public transit and pedestrian/bike infrastructure, but normies that simple mindedly complain about cars. I’m willing to bet that ~20% of them are there because they hate the cars that get them stuck in traffic, but don’t care about driving their own car.

this is such a great app, thank you for forking it! I’ve had a flawless experience so far (except the other comment loading issue, but pretty sure thats a 0.18.4 issue not infinity)
- Comment on I have a Gen 4 I7 and 32 gb ram with a 1 TB ssd HDD, and a 1 gb gaming video card. Micro$haft says my computer isn't ready for Windows 11. How is that possible? 1 year ago:
4th gen is very old, so windows being really bloated and inefficient probably cut support for it.
Try linux if you are interested. The day to day performance is actually really good (except gaming ofc)

- Comment on Stop renewables and wait for nuclear: Nationals stunning rejection of science and industry 1 year ago:
Baseload isn’t the problem right now, but we can make it the problem instead.
If we have a solid foundation of baseload, we can incentivize more use of power in low demand times. This could be through water heaters heating household water at night, insulating more houses and using their internal temperature as energy storage, and with the increasing amount of EVs we could also mandate them to only be charged at night.
These measures would all flatten the curve of electricity consumption and increase the base demand in relation to the peak.
Nuclear is ofc really expensive to build, but it’s also expensive to build a million solar cells. And although we don’t know how expensive it would be because we don’t have nuclear power in Australia, in many countries it’s even cheaper than wind and solar per kwh.

- Comment on Stop renewables and wait for nuclear: Nationals stunning rejection of science and industry 1 year ago:
the problem is the instability of renewable power though, batteries aren’t cheap and arent great for the environment either.
I am pro nuclear and think that we should start building a fission plant ASAP on somewhere like french island in vic, and switch to that when it’s done after 15 years or so. We should be building renewables in the meantime though

yeah, I’ve never heard of anyone that didn’t give up on rain world once.
I personally gave up on it until I found out about a coop mod that you can use to play with a friend, and I played it with my friend (who also gave up on it once) until I got past that 20h that makes the game really fun.

Rain World (I love it so much please take it away from me before I lose all of my free time):
- Very fluid procedural movement that takes 300+ hours to learn
- Torturous first 20 hours that most people give up during

- Comment on [META] So... about the bots 1 year ago:
it’s the amount of comments on bot posts that is the problem. I go to news communities on lemmy/reddit too see articles and people’s reactions to those articles. If I just wanted to read news, I would go to my news aggregator, not Lemmy.
- Comment on [META] So... about the bots 1 year ago:
but I want to follow new. It’s how I find niche communities here, and because there was a lot of botting on a community, I had to block the entire community.
I come to lemmy because I want to interact with humans. If I wanted to read random articles, I’ll go to my bookmarked blogs.
