- Comment on ChatGPT’s much-heralded Mac app was storing conversations as plain text 4 months ago:
How is that related to OpenAI’s app? It’s not an Apple product.
- Comment on Epic Games calls out Apple for rejecting its Games Store in the EU 4 months ago:
That Apple has any say whatsoever over competing App Stores means they are shirking both the letter and intent of EU law.
- Comment on Authy got hacked, and 33 million user phone numbers were stolen 4 months ago:
Most decent password managers (e.g. 1Password, Proton Pass) have MFA built-in. Use those.
- Comment on Climate protest accused defies judge to give hours-long speech in court 4 months ago:
Unfortunate, at that point we’ll all be history.
- Comment on Microsoft’s AI boss thinks it’s perfectly OK to steal content if it’s on the open web 4 months ago:
Then every time their commercial AI outputs anything even remotely infringing, they should be on the hook for every. single. incident. by. every. user. every. time.
- Comment on USA | What SCOTUS just did to net neutrality, the right to repair, the environment, and more 4 months ago:
TL;DR; Our country is fucked. SCOTUS just made the unelected, unaccountable, oligarchy of judges the top law of the land, nationwide.
- Comment on Study: Congress literally doesn’t care what you think. The preferences of the average American appear to have only a miniscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy. 4 months ago:
For what, exactly? The parties choose who we’re allowed to vote for. Until we abolish FPTP and implement RCV, there will be no democracy in America.

Wow, and it’s made with Godot!?
- Comment on Armello and Solium Infernum developers League Of Geeks are going "into hibernation" 5 months ago:
Aww. I guess that means no more Solium Infernum content/DLC. 😞
That game is fantastic. I’d happily buy anything they put out.
- Comment on Adobe overhauls terms of service to say it won’t train AI on customers’ work 5 months ago:
That they would/could access my work for any reason whatsoever… that they even have that ability, that’s not just a line in the sand for me, it’s the Grand Canyon. I expect any kind of cloud storage to be private and protected (e.g. encrypted at rest)… no back doors, no exceptions.
This is beyond the pale, and AI was never part of the concern.
- Comment on Masahiro Sakurai refused to add Dolby Surround to a Kirby game because players had to sit through the logo 5 months ago:
I approve.
- Comment on OpenAI putting ‘shiny products’ above safety, says departing researcher 5 months ago:
I always narrow my eyes when I hear someone talk about “safety” in the context of AI, because they usually just mean that the AI doesn’t engage in enough moral grandstanding when you ask it sketchy or risqué questions. That’s the same level of pearl-clutching that Tipper Gore espoused over music in the 90s.
But there are legitimate concerns, like lying about real people and topics, reproducing training data (especially personal information) too closely with the right kind of prompting, etc. The problem is that I can’t tell what kind this person is. Are they upset because the AI can recommend marijuana strains… or because it can do something like leak peoples personal information? The article (and people involved in these efforts) too often lump it all together. See, for example: Anthropic

For Karl!
- Comment on Slack is now using all content, including DMs, to train LLMs 5 months ago:
No, but it’s the only one that big corporations know/care about… primarily because of MS’s aggressive “look, it’s basically free and TOTALLY the same thing, we promise” marketing strategy.
- Comment on Images leak of Valve's next game, and it's an Overwatch-style hero shooter 5 months ago:
Everyone needs some rock, and stone, and liberty in their lives.
- Comment on Images leak of Valve's next game, and it's an Overwatch-style hero shooter 5 months ago:
Valves next game…
SQUEEEEEE!!!
it’s an Overwatch-style hero shooter
My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
- Comment on Slack is now using all content, including DMs, to train LLMs 5 months ago:
The customer is never just a customer… even if you are paying. You are always the product now. Always.
- Comment on Slack is now using all content, including DMs, to train LLMs 5 months ago:
Well, that’s just great. Another reason to force everyone into the miserable, counterproductive dumpster fire that is MS Teams.
- Comment on How ‘Zionist’ became a slur on the US left 6 months ago:
Became? Always was… even at the end of WW2. Taking away a native populace’s land and giving it over to outsiders has always been, and always will be, controversial.
- Comment on The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask just got an unofficial PC port 6 months ago:
Projects not containing anything owned by Nintendo has never stopped Nintendo from destroying those projects (and peoples lives) in the past.
- Comment on US to impose tariffs on Chinese EVs next week 6 months ago:
Until the US government doubles the price to protect our own garbage auto industry.
Though maybe if they take that money and funnel it into subsidies for own promising upstarts like Rivian and Aptera… but no, that would mean our corrupt officials wouldn’t be able to plunder it for own big donors. What was I thinking?
- Comment on US to impose tariffs on Chinese EVs next week 6 months ago:
The international buzz right now is that they are legitimately very good.
- Comment on US to impose tariffs on Chinese EVs next week 6 months ago:
so which are you choosing?
I think most people will choose what they can actually afford. The fact that things cost so much and people aren’t being paid anywhere near enough to compensate for the skyrocketing price of consumer goods, including vehicles.
- Comment on Streaming is cable now | Seventeen years after Netflix and Hulu kicked off a streaming revolution, it’s looking more like cable than ever. 6 months ago:
Unfortunately, you are absolutely right. 😞
And also, even when it is… it’s “buying” (with quotes), because in this brave new digital world… you don’t actually own anything you “buy”.
- Comment on Streaming is cable now | Seventeen years after Netflix and Hulu kicked off a streaming revolution, it’s looking more like cable than ever. 6 months ago:
On the up-side, I can cancel subscriptions whenever I want and only subscribe to one or two at a time when they have something I want to watch. I could never do that with cable.
That said, pricing is getting way out of control. I will not tolerate ads and we’re getting to the point where purchasing content makes more financial sense than subscribing to things that load you up with caveats unless you pay premiums.
- Comment on Whooping cough will kill more babies unless UK vaccination rates rise, says expert 6 months ago:
The problem is that they are murdering their kids. If they wanted to off themselves, that’s one thing, but inflicting it on helpless children?
- Comment on West Bank: Israeli Forces’ Unlawful Killings of Palestinians 6 months ago:
“Unlawfully used lethal force in fatal shootings”
Does HRW know that the word “murder” exists?
- Comment on How come liberals dont hate conservatives the way conservatives hate liberals 6 months ago:
Bad faith misdirection question is bad faith, misdirection.
E for effort, though.
- Comment on [Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism? 6 months ago:
To grossly oversimplify things, there are two kinds of vegans…
Type 1 are “healthy living” and “sustainability” vegans. These type are generally benign, polite, helpful, and keep to themselves unless asked. They also tend to not be super militant about their veganism… like the occassional egg from someone’s beloved home-raised chickens is fine.
Type 2 are ideological vegans. These types believe that “exploiting” “living creatures” in any way is fundamentally immoral, and because it’s a morality issue (e.g. basically religion) the vast majority are very preachy, demanding, and in-your-face about it. They don’t consider type 1 to be “real vegans”.
Type 2, being the loudest and most abrasive, giving veganism a bad name and ruining it for everyone.

extremists on both sides
Right Extremists: Murder our political opponents! Kill the queers and the coloreds! Install our dictator! Anyone that isn’t a white christian nationalist doesn’t deserve to live!
Left Extremists: Everyone deserved access to health care, housing, and basic necessities! Limit the hoarding of wealth and power! Protect democracy! End mass murder and genocide!
