- Comment on Is it generally safe to walk through a field of cows? 6 days ago:
Paraglider pilot here, so I landed among the cow my fair share of times.
Cows are curious but shy, if you walk slowly they might come to have a look, if they get too close, something like clapping your hands is enough to have them running away. However, if the farmer didn’t took the veals the yet, they can be pretty agressive to protect their kids, in that case forgot what I said about “clapping your hand” and stay away from the herd. Note also that bull are less shy than cow.

- Comment on Could I get an autopsy done on myself while I'm alive? 1 month ago:
In general you cannot consent in being assassinated, and even in place where euthanasia/assisted suicide is legal, there is still a strict process to make-it cleanly rather than cutting down a person in piece
- Comment on How come hotel check-in time is always 3-4? 1 month ago:
Note that in some case, it’s possible to get an earlier check-in. For ordinary customer it might be a paying service, for corporate customer and member of loyalty program it may be a complementary service. Just give a call to the hotel. Same applies to late check-out it’s sometimes possible to check-out at 14 or even 16.
- Comment on What is a good eli5 analogy for GenAI not "knowing" what they say? 1 month ago:
have you played that game where everyone write a subjet and put it on a stack of paper, then everyone puts a verb on a different stack of paper, then everyone put an object on a third stack of paper, and you can even add a place or whatever on the next stack of paper. You end-up with fun sentences like A cat eat Kevin’s brain on the beach. It’s the kind of stuff (pre-)teen do to have a good laugh.
Chat GPT somehow works the same way, except that instead of having 10 paper in 5 stack, it has millions of paper in thousands of stack and depending on the “context” will choose which stack it draws paper from (To take an ELI5 analogy)

- Comment on If somebody spends the whole day watching fox or religious propaganda, gets worked up and all he can think of is owning a liberal or converting an unbeliever, is this person a victim or just gullible? 1 month ago:
People should grow up and take responsibility for their lives.
This is something on I don’t agree at all with liberals. When people are manipulated by cult-like technique (or even (social) media optimized to give their brain a fix of dopamine) it’s not about their individual responsiblity but the responsiblity of the assholes manipulating them.
- Comment on Is it greener to just burn plastic? 1 month ago:
Incineration, is the standard way of getting rid of non recyclable waste (a lot of plastic can be recycled) not that green but it allows to produce electricity and hot water which saves some oil
- Comment on If I sign up on a hot air balloon ride and there is bad weather can I get my money back? 2 months ago:
Have you asked each company in details? It’s typically the kind of small business who understands everyone unique case rather than a large corporation full of procedures and lawyers.
I assume they would rather reschedule to not loose the money, but a way to cancel may exists
- Comment on Why do passports need to be signed to be valid? 2 months ago:
Not even a disability, but kids under 5-6 can’t sign by themselves, and will nead at least another decade to come with a real signature.
Think about this 9 year old with a toddler photo on their passport and a parent signature over is

- Comment on Is there a more politically and ideologically diverse alternative for Lemmy? 2 months ago:
What made your experience negative ?
-
I’m on an large instance which doesn’t federate with Grad, so I don’t see the Right-winger playing to be leftist by supporting right wing dictators
-
Tons of communities don’t get that much political beside the respect basic human rights and sometimes comment the news
-
Even with the European election ongoing, I don’t see much political discussion on European communities
So may-be try more “casual/fun” communties than the political one.
If you use the “local feed” it may be worth checking another instance. I heard good stuff of Blahaj Lemmy which as no downvote and act mostly as a safe/relax space for queer but is open to non queer people

- Comment on How is the US able to instantly stop an attack from Iran but powerless when Israel attacks hospitals? 2 months ago:
Politics. US is ally with Israel but notxwith Iran, US isn’t the world police but a country defending their interests which includes their allies.
I somehow hope, that this slow drone attack is also some political theatre like, we shoot some drones to protest our embassy bombing, but we won’t go further

- Comment on How does the day-to-day work of not wearing shoes in the house? 2 months ago:
Why do you need shoes to Cook ( well one du, Imight be injured by a falling knife) also use commons sense, if I break glass, I would keep shoes until It’s cleaned.
Garbage Day is like once a week, so not sûre why this example. If I go shopping, I take 30 seconds to pass a pair oh shoes. It’s net that long

You’ll die. In 50-70 years you’ll be sleeping in a grave, while there is a good chance that the US (or Germany/France/China) will still be around. Even though a couple of countries have multi-generation mortgages (looking a your switzerland) most bank won’t lend money to people if they think they’ll die before paying pack. It’s less an issue with governments. Well if we look at history, every 100-200 years, there is a moment when a country stop paying their debt, best case they throw the bankers in jail and seize their goods, worst case they do economic reform and punish their own citizen. but it’s still way safer than lending money to a person/company.
That said, public debt is still a potential issue, the era of negative interest rate is over and these interest are part of a country budget. Moreover, i am always weirded out when the state take poor money it’s called taxes, but when they state take rich people money it’s called debt and we give them interest.
Finally, even though everyone know that at a point any government will either declare bankrupcy, have inflation, or a revolution to cancel the debt, the risk over a few years (to take typical treasure bonds is still very low. My money is safer in public debts of almost every country than on stock of a large company)
- Comment on Language tag on communities with "default language" 3 months ago:
Hey, Thanks for coming here. My concern before going tot the issue tracker is that it seems to work on some instance and not on some other. so it was not clear whether it’s an instance specific problem or a software issue. hence firstly a discussion here.
If necessary I can try to open a ticket on the github.
- Comment on Do bike tires increase pressure in summerm 3 months ago:
Considering that you need to check tire pressures every 6-12 weeks, I wouldn’t worry about the summer/winter difference.
On my bike the recommended pressure is in the 4-6 bar range. so way more than the expected variation from temperature (or day to day pressure).

- Comment on Are the languages that can be fluently spoken only if you are descendent of a particular community/country ? 3 months ago:
Are you trying to recreate the race theory ? There isn’t enough difference among human ethnicity to have sounds that you can’t do biologically.
However, as brain plasticity diminish with age, there is tons of sounds that non native can pronounce, look at French trying to speak english and struggling to get the th sound correctly Ze Ding is Tat or English speakers unable to get the french u sound properly Excousez moi. And this is for 2 countries which are pretty close geographically and culturally. I let you imagine what happen when an European try to learn an east-asian or sub saharian language, especially as an adult. IT’s not about genetic, just about not being used to these sounds
- Comment on Language tag on communities with "default language" 3 months ago:
We will have to look into this. I assume you would prefer that the posts do get automatically tagged as French
If the community has a default language yes, it would be great to have tagged automatically in the default language
The language settings on Lemmy generally need some work to make them more intuitive, imo. New users are often confused by them.
Indeed, this isn’t intuitive (and something you find on the fedi, but less on mainstream social media). Also when using the wrong Language, Lemmy doesn’t return any error but just refuse to accept the post. Which is a great way to confuse anyone.
Thanks for looking at it

Many countries aren’t that far from UBI. When you add all the welfare programs, People alrcadx get money When not working or When notgettimg a fair wage (yeah wage are so low that in today’s economy minimal wages workers alrcadx need some welfare benefits tolive)
UBI is about generalizing it and making it a livable amont. This would be a taxable income, it would allow working class to work less (letting works for others) whiletaxes won’t let the rich get tricher zithouthaving to work
- Comment on Are people in the stock photos real? 3 months ago:
Bonus question, was being a stock photo model a “full time job” or it was more an actor/model job that you do between more interesting projects ?
That said, with the ridiculous price of stock photo, and the remaining glitches in AI model, not sure whether it’s really cheaper to generate an AI image (Need to get high resolution image, and to review them, you don’t want a bad buzz because a necklace didn’t close or whatever glitches are left) . It’s basically depending whether some stock photo bank have implemented a natural language search.
- Comment on Can I follow a Lemmy user from Mastodon ? 3 months ago:
Switching back to English if you don’t mind.
I know that following the whole community works. But I wanted to try a lighter way by following only the V4uban to get only the daily thread on my mastodon feed (and then click on the main message to see the whole thread). I’m going to check the meta, but at least I know that it’not supposed to work that way

- Comment on Mlmym instance? 3 months ago:
In the same category, I’ve seen instance using the photon interface e.g. p.jlai.lu and it’s pretty neat.
But may-be there is a way to use all these interface in stand-alone without bothering our be-loved admin.
