And not to be confused with Sinclair Microvision

Best reason ever to be rid of TikTok.

Nope - US manufacturers are NOT pulling the same shit. Kia/Hyundai are the only brand in the US without immobilizers because they thought they could skimp there instead of a posher interior or more electro-gadgets. It was a stupid, stupid call and it should impact their reputation. If they skimp on something as elemental as security, where else have they skimped…?
- Comment on Dissing car brands is console wars for boomers 9 months ago:
Location is irrelevant … That was choice by Hyundai/Kia, to cheap out and remove the immobilizers.

Do you mean the Toyota with the airbag issues in the 90s, or their EV last year where the wheels would FALL OFF while driving? Toyota is a shell of what made it great, and the whole greenwashing of their hybrids (eg, their self-charging EVs bullshit) should make you think of other choices.

Guy goes to his Lada dealer and says “I want a gas cap for my Lada”. Dealer replies “…that seems like a fair trade.”
- Comment on How have you personally found the Lemmy community compared to its competition and other social media? 10 months ago:
Or Apple. /c/technology is an Apple hatefest.
You’re spot on - I’m not feeling like I really care about either place these days. Maybe I’ve outgrown social media, especially if the content is high-school level Absolutism.

The Red Bull stealth mobile. But, then…stickers.
This is why the the US Air Force doesn’t have a marketing department.

That’s what a Personal site was in the beginning, as most “bloggers” were more technically inclined. We posted what we were interested in.

- Comment on New Private Eye just dropped 11 months ago:
I’m not directing it solely at conservatives - more, the status quo. People are weird in that they vote against their interests in fear it’ll get worse, but they ignore that you have to break the grip of the incumbents for any change to happen. That could take several election cycles to clean house.
Good on you for always trying to choose the best option, and not the one habit suggests.
I think the worst thing we as voters do is expect big changes to stick immediately. I think ultimately, it’s going to be a lot of smaller, necessary changes before we can expect big moves to really make it.
After 50 years voting, I feel it’s our impatience for change that tends to scupper any sort of real change, and return the grasp back to the status quo.

Do what I do - vote them out at every conceivable level of government until they learn to listen (or fear) the public.
Either would be good.

I’d not just blame the fediverse - I’d call out all social media. Popularity reigns there, not accuracy or facts.

Same. It’s an impossible fight, with all this magical thinking about Apple biasing any discussion. So much blind hate and no way to debate it.
Apple pays much more to artists - period. That’s why I use it.

- Comment on Most of the world's biggest advertisers have stopped buying ads on Elon Musk's X, exclusive new data shows 1 year ago:
This would make sense. His affiliations with state governments, which he plays against each other when looking to set up somewhere, would be reinforced if he could control the conversation. Then there’s China, where he’s the one beholden to the government, and he could offer some control to help shape their international image in return for just access to cheap labour and an export market.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 year ago:
Okay, that answers my question. Keep that foil hat on tight and good luck on the loony fringe!

It’s not a binary choice. A Tesla sucks; plenty of other brands of BEVs are doing fine.

- Comment on Doctor Who: Here's Why David Tennant is The Face of The Modern Era 1 year ago:
I agree Jodie wasn’t given good material, but I didn’t like the darkening and extra-helping of gravitas that came with Capaldi’s Doctor. Don’t get me wrong, I like Capaldi, but it felt really off (a sonic guitar?) and it was as if they were writing for his eyebrows, not the character.
- Comment on Doctor Who: Here's Why David Tennant is The Face of The Modern Era 1 year ago:
So looking forward to the new series… I feel as if Doctor Who had gotten too dark, too self-serious and in some ways, too self-serving. We need a bit of lightness back, and hopefully Davies can rekindle that.
