Yeah I collect all the free games that Epic gives out, plus other random freebies and game bundles.
Will I go through all 1500 in my lifetime? Absolutely not.

How big is that backlog?
Mine crossed 1500 recently 😅

Looks like Marathon 2 and Marathon Infinity are making their way to Steam for free too. All 3 are Aleph One.

- Comment on Microsoft’s Xbox Is Planning More Cuts After Studio Closings - Bloomberg 1 month ago:
Gift article I found online.
The part that interests me is this:
Jill Braff, head of ZeniMax studios, said in the town hall that she hoped the reorganization would allow the division, which also develops Fallout and Doom, to put more focus on fewer projects. “It’s hard to support nine studios all across the world with a lean central team with an ever-growing plate of things to do,”
Why gobble up so many studios to consolidate into a gaming megacorp, then get gobbled up yourself by Microsoft? What’s the purpose of acquiring so many studios and holding onto so much IP if you can’t handle them?

- Comment on Prime Video subs will soon see ads for Amazon products when they hit pause 1 month ago:
“We think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem,”
“If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate’s service is more valuable.”

- Comment on Xbox is still committed to making consoles, says boss Phil Spencer 4 months ago:
I’d rather see consoles open up to being general purpose PCs, than not see consoles at all.
Valve got it right with the Steam Deck. I enjoy accessing my game library from SteamOS and using the Desktop Mode when I need to be productive.
If the Xbox had an option to boot into Windows, they’d be selling the Xbox like hot cakes. It would keep users invested in Windows as a platform rather than them moving to Linux or macOS. It’s such a waste of potential.
They’re far too stupid to realize that.
- Comment on Google maps adding sponsored detours 5 months ago:
My personal Google Maps conspiracy is that when I need to take a turn, Maps on Android Auto will say “take right at xyz street” (paraphrased) but if there happens to be a Jack In The Box at the intersection, the maps will always call it out – “take a left after the Jack In The Box” (paraphrased).
I’ve never heard it namedrop any other business like that.

I had to travel on a very short notice 2 weeks ago. Chose the cheapest flight I could find - Spirit.
They have the option to bid for exit row seats and the large front seats. I bid $3 for the exit row seats and … won! Spread my legs out gloriously throughout the entire flight.

- Comment on 'Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition' Arrives on Netflix December 14 for Mobile 6 months ago:
The Definitive Editions are basically a remaster of the 3 games - higher res textures and models, updated lighting, general improvements, etc.
Rockstar/the studio they gave the project to botched the job pretty hard. Innumerable bugs and glitches, compilations of which can be found on YouTube.
In the 2 years they’ve worked on the Definitive Edition since release, they’ve tackled some bugs, but many still remain. I wouldn’t recommend paying for it yet if you want to try them, and instead stick with the original versions. The older versions might look dated but at least they aren’t a hot mess.

Definitive Edition is the new bit here indeed.
- Comment on Which controller did you start with? 6 months ago:
My first controller was probably an NES knockoff. Nintendo never did (and still doesn’t) sell consoles officially in my home country.
If you’re not counting the GBA SP’s controls, my first official controller was the Wii’s Wiimotes.
- Comment on 'Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition' Arrives on Netflix December 14 for Mobile 6 months ago:
It’s included in the Netflix subscription so no additional cost for subscribers. Haven’t heard if it’ll be available for non-Netflix subscribers yet.
The Definitive Edition was supposed to come out for iOS and Android in “the first half of 2022”. Hopefully they spent the additional time fixing all 3 games.

I had a ton of fun playing Ingress in highschool/college – exploring parts of my city I had never been to before, walking around a ton, meeting new people and making friends.
But yeah, it’s a data collection service for Google Maps.

- Comment on Rivian says "fat finger" caused software update to brick infotainment systems, physical servicing may be required 7 months ago:
At least there’s a speedometer on a separate display.
On the Tesla Model Y there’s only one centre display for everything. I was on a road trip with someone in one and the display froze then automatically rebooted itself. Took a good 5 minutes.
Nothing happened eventually and the car kept running, but it’s a scary experience when you’re driving 65-70 MPH on a highway. I was worried the car would refuse to continue driving and lock itself or something while it rebooted.

There’s Pixelfed which is a fediverse alternative to Instagram, but I don’t use it currently as I don’t share my photography online as LCP.
Other than that, there are other fediverse platforms that are basically Mastodon-like or Lemmy-like.
Things are fairly wonky right now, but I believe with time, effort and funding many if not all of the fediverse’s issues can be resolved.
Which Lemmy communities are you a part of that are currently tiny? I can lend a hand in posting/commenting there and keeping them active.
- Comment on [deleted] 7 months ago:
For Mastodon, you gotta find the hashtags about the things you care about.
For Lemmy, you gotta put in the work to raise the communities you care about. If there are existing communities, post and comment in them. If there isn’t a community about your interest - and if you’re willing - create and maintain them. The people will come.
I’m all in on the fediverse, and want to watch it flourish.
- Comment on Rockstar Games regarding Grand Theft Auto VI 7 months ago:
All that multiplayer bullshit subsidies the single player campaign.
??? What? How?
The game isn’t free – singleplayer or multiplayer(well it was free on Epic Games Store for that one week, but that was years into the game’s release).
It earned $800 million on release day and $1 billion in 3 days. I don’t think a lot of people would have bought Shark cards at that time.
Then there’s all the sales after the first 3 days, the release on PS4/Xbox One/PC, and then the re-release on PS5/Xbox Series.
This article claims they made ~$8 billion in revenue from GTA V as of Q1 FY23. I know games are expensive to make, but surely they don’t cost billions – to a point where their singleplayer campaign needs to be “subsidized”?
- Comment on What do overnight shift workers do when the clocks change? 7 months ago:
I had to work overnight during a clock change.
All I had to do was log 10 hours, so it didn’t really matter.
