The Docker engine itself, meaning the
dockerd
daemon, its APIs and thedocker
CLI, are all under Apache 2.0. The non-free parts are mostly in their Docker Desktop offering, which is mostly a convenience GUI and not absolutely necessary (the easiest, on Windows and macOS, probably, but not the only one) to run Docker on most platforms. - Comment on The blowhole in whales and dolphins is really their nose. 1 year ago:
You’re covered in millions of bacteria just standing in the metro or walking in a public bathroom, probably.

Almost like something/someone can do some good on one side, and also do stupid stuff on the other. Wild concept, I know.

That is honestly not nearly as much as I thought it would be.
- Comment on Why do people say that "return to office" is about raising commercial real estate prices? 1 year ago:
Funny how they ask us to go to the office but keep building their offices where none of their employees can afford to live
- Comment on good alternatives to raspberry pi which are cheap and efficient? 1 year ago:
This. My old 2nd gen i5-750 doesn’t hold a candle vs. a modern i3.
- Comment on good alternatives to raspberry pi which are cheap and efficient? 1 year ago:
When people say x86 is not power efficient, it usually means it’s not very efficient for battery powered devices, or is kind of wasteful in situations like in data centers where they’re running thousands of machines. For home use, with a machine that’s gonna probably end up idling most of the time, my best guess is it would cost you a couple tens of dollars a year to run vs a slightly smaller amount.
Personally, just so I don’t have to deal with software compatibility on different architectures, I’ll gladly pay that small difference in power usage, but this will of course vary depending on what you’re looking to run on there.
- Comment on Youtube ads finally got me 1 year ago:
No judgement if you like it, but do I want and need content like this lol?
- Comment on Youtube ads finally got me 1 year ago:
Can’t say there’s no crazy mixed in on PeerTube either lol. And as much as I’d love to like PeerTube… There’s just nothing that brings me back, content wise.
- Comment on Nowadays, on certain games and game launchers, you can play the game before its fully downloaded. How is possible? 1 year ago:
Hmm, that much for textures, really? Did this change in the recent years with the rise of 4K gaming? I always thought raw media files like video/audio were the main culprits.
- Comment on What Game Boy game do you love that you never hear anyone talk about? 1 year ago:
I played the shit out of Donkey Kong Country 2 on my GBC as a kid. A lot of it with that crappy night light attachment that ate batteries and gave me motion sickness playing at night in the car.

One might indeed
I may not, but seems like OP did
Which I’m not sure should worry me or not

This is indeed a thought
- Comment on A self-hosted wiki that can integrate with a fediverse instance 1 year ago:
Gotta love how /c/ADHD is already on it. Their Wiki will then probably get abandoned for months on end, only to get picked up by the next potential maintainer in a manic “THIS IS NEW AND EXCITING” phase. My people <3
- Comment on When does the future begin? 1 year ago:
Well, technically, you never truly experience the present, as your brain processing whatever your senses are picking up is taking some time. So, from an individual standpoint, the future is always kind of already there, as you constantly react to things happening a couple microseconds late.
From a purely etymological point of view, the future is just any period of time that hasn’t happened yet.

Interesting. Will check that out.
- Comment on New TrueNAS server custom build 1 year ago:
My very old HTPC which acted as a home server died a couple years ago and I just never replaced it lol. So my “server”/NAS is well, my own PC. Thankfully my 3800x/32GB RAM doesn’t seem to mind too much.
Worst thing is, I’m a senior/lead developer, I’m very familiar with server administration, networking, provisioning and all that stuff. I just… never got around to it, I guess? It’s just expensive enough that I don’t want to get buyer’s remorse. I don’t really know what I want lol. I’m thinking Plex (although I want to move to Jellyfin) and Radarr/Sonarr/Lidarr. But also Docker and/or TV a small K8s cluster for personal projects and self-hosting some stuff… basically some general purpose thing?

I live in Quebec, we get sub-freezing temps 150 days a year or something lol. No, I won’t go outside to clear my car in the winter in freezing weather, thank you.

- Comment on The N64 released 27 years ago today. Feel old yet? 1 year ago:
I remember having discussions with friends in school marveling at Perfect Dark’s graphic quality. It and GoldenEye in 4 way split screen was so freaking fun. Donkey Kong 64 ran at like 12FPS at times and I didn’t even realize. Modern gaming is really spoiling us.
- Comment on Grocery stores should have food banks 1 year ago:
That’s a whole lot of assumptions based on… not much, I suppose? Last I checked, most people using food banks are on disability, social security, single parents, or just low-income people.
You can’t help people if you don’t inform yourself before forming an opinion either.

- Comment on What does cigarette smoking do for people? 1 year ago:
From experience, once you’re genuinely ready to stop and you’re already down to 0mg, at some point you’ll just randomly get too lazy to change your coil and that’ll be it.

Hey! With the pandemic, I too got into Cipralex again after a handful of years off of them, and I also newly got put on Vyvanse.

- Comment on How do I tame my frustration toward my aging parents? 1 year ago:
I keep seeing comments along the lines of calling OP’s parents “elderly”, but early 60s are barely reaching retirement age. They shouldn’t be having such cognitive impairments…

- Comment on You can dance the Macarena to other songs besides the Macarena. 1 year ago:
Yeah. As a musician, I always think “well… yeah, of course” whenever I hear this. A set of four 4/4 bars is basically the most prevalent phrasing in popular Western music, and it has been the case for centuries at this point in time.
