- Comment on Google Maps tests new pop-up ads that give you an unnecessary detour 4 months ago:
Damn Google be speed running how quickly they can make me replace all their services. Google Maps are about the only 2 I still use.
- Comment on Signal under fire for storing encryption keys in plaintext on desktop app 4 months ago:
Researchers were able to clone a user’s entire Signal session by copying the local storage directory, allowing them to access the chat history on a separate device
This has actually been useful for me in the past when reinstalling my OS lmao. In an ideal world we could reverify by entering a code from our phones to unlock the desktop local storage after moving it. My biggest wish for Signal is more seamless message history movement across devices and ecosystems.

- Comment on Best VPS for gramps 11 months ago:
Oh absolutely! I wouldn’t trust them with anything mission critical but for little projects here and there they’re absolutely amazing.
- Comment on Best VPS for gramps 11 months ago:
I’d recommend racknerd. Their black Friday pricing is available year round and they have super good annual pricing on some of their VPS options www.racknerd.com/BlackFriday/

I think there’s a little more at play than just not reading it lol
- Comment on Ubisoft Allegedly Interrupts Gameplay with Pop-Up Ads 11 months ago:
Loading screens got shorter as tech improved. Now tech is too fast for proper ads so I bet there’s going to be intentional delay time added to them in the future for more ads.
- Comment on A secret Google deal let Spotify completely bypass Android’s app store fees 11 months ago:
Isn’t Netflix exempt from these fees too? Or do they just not allow you to sign up in app and redirect to a browser?
- Comment on Google turns to regulators to make Apple open up iMessage 1 year ago:
Well didn’t they initially want carriers implementing RCS with interoperability between each other to sunset sms? But that didn’t quite pan out. IIRC there was a time when Verizon had a limited number of devices that supported RCS but only on their network, similar story with Bell in Canada. Hell at one point even Samsung had RCS but only with other Samsung phones. Fragmentation was rampant so Google took matters into their own hands. Not saying I’m happy Googles at the helm but they didn’t start out with that intention.
- Comment on Home heating from datacentres - good use of waste energy or a waste of money? | TechRadar 1 year ago:
Realistically I can’t picture an economically feasible way to transport it. But in theory, sure.
- Comment on GTA 6 has patented a new locomotion system to make "highly dynamic and realistic animations" 1 year ago:
I thought the man was joking then I saw his smooth brained response below. Software patents are cancer and shouldn’t exist.
- Comment on Microsoft now thirstily injects a poll when you download Google Chrome 1 year ago:
Give it a break. To the average user that’s like using a bazooka to hunt deer. I love Linux but windows has its place for most people and will for many years to come.
- Comment on ‘Reddit can survive without search’: company reportedly threatens to block Google 1 year ago:
Can someone point out what kind of actual benefit reddits stands to gain from this? Although there are many, many, MANY things they’ve done in the past that are unpopular, I’ve been able to understand why they did it even though it sucked for end users. This one just seems dumb though. Since their shitty API changes 99.9% of my reddit traffic is from search sending me there. Hell there’s people that have only used reddit as a search resource and nothing more.

Right? They try to make us the product by hard baking invasive telemetry into windows. Then want us to pay for it too? Nawh.
- Comment on Idris Elba: Actors in video games like Phantom Liberty is 'sign of the times' 1 year ago:
I have to agree. I’ve always preferred an A class voice actor for a character that isn’t of celebrity likeness. Honestly hope this doesn’t become the norm.
- Comment on PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan stepping down in March 1 year ago:

- Comment on Todd Howard asked on-air why Bethesda didn't optimise Starfield for PC: 'We did [...] you may need to upgrade your PC' 1 year ago:
It was late and I totally misread it as GTX not RX.
Also my bad for not replying to this sooner. I thought I did.

Must mean they really don’t like those pro consumer EU laws. Fuck big tech.
- Comment on Todd Howard asked on-air why Bethesda didn't optimise Starfield for PC: 'We did [...] you may need to upgrade your PC' 1 year ago:
To be fair, that GPU is long past EoL. Even the 7xx series doesn’t receive support/driver updates anymore.

Zoomer here, tiktok should be banned.
- Comment on Microsoft now has implemented "compare with Bing chat" button when you visit Google Bard in Edge 1 year ago:
To be fair that could be a lot worse. I was expecting injected webpage content. I think this is acceptable and serves as a quick way to compare multiple sources. I dislike that it’s Microsoft more than I do the actual “feature”.
- Comment on New Footage Shows Tesla On Autopilot Crashing Into Police Car After Alerting Driver 150 Times 1 year ago:
Actually it’s absolutely realistic and fair. I don’t like Musk, or Tesla for that matter. But they make it pretty damn clear that you’re 100% responsible for the vehicle when using that feature. Anyone who assumes they don’t need to pay attention is a moron and should be held responsible. If a 747 autopilot system started telling the pilot to take control and they didn’t we wouldn’t blame the manufacturer, we’d blame the shitty pilot that didn’t do their job.
- Comment on Disney to Crack Down on Password-Sharing Too 1 year ago:
The music industry adapted for the internet. Film and TV will need to do the same if they want to reduce piracy to nothing like music. Naturally an all in one streaming service won’t be cheap like music due to costs. But 50$ for a one stop shop video streaming service seems fair to me. 50$ split across multiple UIs feels like a rip. The music industry also made compromises on profits so greedy ol Hollywood can do the same. But let’s be real, they try to make copyright a criminal offense through lobbying before that.
- Comment on Why isn't there a "Spotify premium" for news? 1 year ago:
Because good journalism is expensive and the space is so much more competitive in the digital age. Also greed, usually it’s greed preventing us from having good things.
