- Comment on Qualcomm spends millions on marketing as it is found better battery life, not AI features, is driving Copilot+ PC sales 4 months ago:
My company hired an AI person and I was sure to tell him I stripped the registry values from my computer. I’m an admin sooo
- Comment on Lithium-free sodium batteries exit the lab and enter US production 6 months ago:
I remember NiCad batteries still being used in power wheels toys as a kid. For all I know they may still be, but the battery advancements have been particularly amazing.
- Comment on Woodworking as an escape from the absurdity of software 6 months ago:
I used to be a POS tech. It’s such a gross, mismanaged walled garden.
Currently I spend a lot of time advising against pop ups like that :^)
- Comment on So today I finally deleted the bird app 7 months ago:
I’ve also seen it used as niche industry abbreviations, which made me very uncomfortable at first, regardless of it being disused

This is huge. Thank you!

If I may ask, why still use .world then?
- Comment on Lemmy.world seems to have banned the largest piracy community on Lemmy. 8 months ago:
.world users doing their thing. It’s fine for a starter but not someplace to stay
- Comment on tesco and sainsburys hit with technical issues 8 months ago:
Very nice! I am what we in the industry call a fraud :^)
JK, I’m just not well versed in development or high level things. I’m in the administration, implementation and advisory side of things these days. I was a field tech prior.
One day I’ll get more into the weeds of it all. Nothing but respect for the devs that hold it all together
- Comment on tesco and sainsburys hit with technical issues 8 months ago:
I’m out of the industry now, but I was saying the same. Win 10 Embedded and Win 7 IoT both served very, very well. But the always online component and other issues with 11 make it poorly suited for the use case it had in the past. Systems that relied on mapped drives are now nearly fully depreciated.
- Comment on tesco and sainsburys hit with technical issues 8 months ago:
It’s very likely to be one of the NCR platforms. If I were to hazard a guess, StoreLine. Though it could be Encor/ISS45, ECRS has a pretty big market share as well. POS software is a walled garden of security through obscurity. Windows dependencies tend to be in part because it is such a small market, but also due to workstation/server requirements as well as remote support.
Long time support and stability are the name of the game. The industry doesn’t allow for much downtime which makes any change significantly harder than a lot of other industries.
- Comment on Suspects can refuse to provide phone passcodes to police, court rules 11 months ago:
In my state, police aren’t allowed to use your fingerprint against you, but they can use facial recognition. It’s backwards and doesn’t make a ton of sense, but that’s the state of affairs.
- Comment on Threads is officially starting to test ActivityPub integration 11 months ago:
Part of that is only because any and all Instagram accounts are also considered Threads accounts. I have a feeling active users is probably in a similar ballpark
- Comment on Jesse is smarter than what we give him credit for. 11 months ago:
I work and converse with people globally, as much as I love the idea of being able to use seasons as a marker of time like that, it’s just not possible.
Now let’s work on names for this 13th month…
- Comment on Jesse is smarter than what we give him credit for. 11 months ago:
Seasons vary by hemisphere, and it’s counterintuitive to force half of the glove to accept summer as winter or winter as summer.

As an organization admin, it’s great for business use. Don’t force it onto users alongside other bloatware slop.
- Comment on JK Rowling prefers two years in jail over using correct pronouns 1 year ago:
They actually have, be it the Inuit people, Native Americans, Greeks, Scandinavians, Romans, Indians, Japanese, Pacific Islanders, and likely many more. Phytoestrogens from soy and BPA plastics are not metabolized in a way that carries any feminizing effects, though can aggravate hormonal cancers. If you haven’t watched Oki’s series on the atrazine studies they’re fantastic. He interviews the scientist behind a lot of the research and talks on how Alex Jone’s undermined the research’s public image.
That being said, while I appreciate the sentiment of “dress how ya want” and I truly believe you’re genuine in saying that. Which is why I ask you have just a little compassion on the matter. I know some people can be a lot. But most are just trying to get by, just like you and I.
- Comment on JK Rowling prefers two years in jail over using correct pronouns 1 year ago:
Trans people have always existed and weren’t even on people’s radar until we became the focus of a “culture war”. This is something I denied and battled internally for 15+ years before I decided to actually pursue it; I am markedly less passable as a result, but that’s what the “rational” transphobes want right? Wait until you’re a fully developed adult before making that choice? I did. My voice might be on the deep end of things, but I get gendered correctly in public by total strangers. So while I appreciate my life being called a trend, I can assure you it’s not.
Now, while I worry about my personal safety by way of being hate crimed in public due to some shitty rhetoric; you can keep posting about getting “bullied” online. Hope this clears things up <3

Genuinely I’ll give Michaelsoft credit on skipping 9, they did that to avoid SEO poisoning windows 9x variants.
- Comment on JK Rowling prefers two years in jail over using correct pronouns 1 year ago:
You get called out for shitty behavior that can negatively impact people, and are upset that carries consequences. That’s not bullying fwiw

- Comment on New Study: 54% of American Adults Read Below 6th Grade-Levels 1 year ago:
I’d wager it’s a solid mix of both. A 6th grade level is probably marginally higher than you’re expecting it to be. However, it gets much, much worse than you’d expect in a large portion of the US.

- Comment on Smartphone sales down 22 percent in Q2, the worst performance in a decade 1 year ago:
It drives me insane how many people turn a blind eye to the funny numbers needing to always go up. Every “investor” will tell me how the market has never not recovered; how I’m the fool and surely not them for trusting in the system.
I hate that my retirement depends on a 401k, or money that constantly depreciates.
