- Comment on We compared the finances of 30-year-olds now, to 30-year-olds 30 years ago 6 months ago:
Yeah, I’m sorry, I had to stop reading when I read that they own not just one but TWO homes. I saw red.
Meanwhile, I’m relatively terrified that my retirement will be living in a cardboard box under a bridge after suffering from multiple strokes based on family history.
- Comment on Draining entire superannuation savings wouldn’t cover most young couples’ home deposits, research finds 7 months ago:
Every time I see these ridiculous solutions being proposed, I get so frustrated. My partner and I are trying to do the right thing, saving and not stealing from our future selves - but we’re competing against these insane policies that do nothing but drive up the price even further.
We just met our original goal, but the cost of a home in our regional area has pretty much doubled since we moved back after giving up on Sydney a few years back now, so we’re no further ahead.
- Comment on A literal child taking orders in a fast food restaurant in the US 10 months ago:
I’ve seen some very small statured people working in big chains here. I don’t think Maccas and their ilk would be taking the risk of illegally employing children, at least not in countries like Australia.
Also, if this is a young child, is it not a bit wrong to be sharing their image around like this?..
- Comment on Centrelink should consider waiving 100,000 debts that may be unlawful, ombudsman report finds 11 months ago:
Just assume they all are - I’d be willing to bet it would be the cheaper option than paying staff to sift through the reports then refunding the legit ones.
Burn it all down and start fresh.

He was fantastic in Righteous Gemstones.

- Comment on Australians’ tipping habits fail to keep up with rising restaurant prices, data reveals 11 months ago:
I’m absolutely horrified that tipping is still as high as 8% for those who do tip.
Get that absolute nonsense out of our country. It benefits no one and will only do great harm in the long run. Just look at the mess that is American hospitality.
- Comment on Google Chrome will limit ad blockers starting June 2024 11 months ago:
I’m only using Chrome for work because the profile switching & syncing is so much smoother and our company is split into two primary brands - my brain handles it better with an individual browser profile for each.
We’re consolidating everything into one next year, meaning I can ditch the second browser!
I’ve tried setting up a second profile but it was just too much effort to get it working and bring everything across from both, then do the same on my laptop for travel, so I’ll just wait for now.
- Comment on GameStop’s definition of “New” 1 year ago:
I used to work for their brand in my country, and I would have to repackage and shrink wrap the game & booklets when we received new stock.
So yes, it is open but still new (assuming the store manager is honest).
I still didn’t like the idea of doing this to games, but there weren’t many jobs in my town and it sure beat working checkouts…

The creator is an awful person and likely to be a future family annihilator. He is truly terrifying.

It’s also helped me find the names of several books and films that have been rattling around in my mind, some for decades, which actually made me very happy because not remembering that sort of thing drives me a little mad.
I’m stuck on two books that it can’t work out - both absolute trash pulp fiction, one that I stopped reading because it was so terrible and the other that was so bad but I actually wouldn’t mind reading again.
Oh well, can’t have it all.

Yep, if it connects to an external audio device first - sometimes it does connect but then disconnect, but usually it works without issue!

I have mine set to go to Airplane mode when it pairs to my car’s Bluetooth.
It stops me being distracted by calls but allows me to listen to my music.
- Comment on Amazon reportedly used a secret algorithm to jack up prices 1 year ago:
I have a feeling that wouldn’t be legal.
When I had to change price tickets, from memory, the lower prices went into effect that morning, but any price increases wouldn’t go into effect until the next day?
The customer always receives the lower price, and I didn’t get screamed at when I hopped back on the cash register.

I’ve been marking these advisor emails as spam in our ticketing software for ages, they set off all my alarm bells and raise all the red flags!

Yes, never sure why people had such an issue with the term.
Example, artificial hair is a broad term, and can span from looking like a straw broom to indistinguishable from real hair, and everything in between.

My old manager once drew on my screen with his pen.
He would also leave his coffee cups on my desk including a nasty ring.
I was so glad when he left, and am even more glad to work from home where people can’t draw on my damn monitor.
- Comment on The proletarianization of tech workers 1 year ago:
I love how people always argue this point, “oh it sucks and can’t replace x”. Computer animation sucked once as well, but look at what can be done with it now.
AI sucks in its current state. It will evolve and improve, and put poor little uneducated admin people like myself completely out of work. I’m learning what I can, but I’m not very bright, and neither is my future!
- Comment on The proletarianization of tech workers 1 year ago:
There are likely so many ways to circumvent these things; it’s so good of these two Lemmings to provide further details so we know how to avoid this in the future!

This is so amusing to me, because I had no idea who this Linus was - I was only somewhat familiar with Linus Torvald of Linux fame. I looked up last night just to check that the old Linux nerd wasn’t running around stealing water coolers and such.
Extra funny to see a comment the next morning that this Linus knows zero about Linux.

I’m so confused, I literally thought that the “what goes where” section headers were around the wrong way.
I also agree with your point about not being too strict when we’re wanting the community to grow.

All I could think while reading this.
If they get away with it, what’s to stop them or their golf buddies in parallel industries from pulling the same type of stunt again.
