  I’m really starting to get into this. And I’m tempted to drop it for the time being and instead binge it at the end of the season. It’s very complex - I’m getting the impression of lots of layers of intrigue under the surface - and very dramatic in both a large and world-altering sense and a small and personal sense. And I just think it’ll work better if I wait until all the episodes are available, and until my mood is right, then just let it sweep me up and drag me along with it.

  That and I just really need to pare down my watches for this season - I’m up over a dozen new series that have for one reason or another grabbed my attention.

  It’s… different.

  These Agents are so important.

  For all the implications for agriculture alone, of having regular seasons show up on time, the Agents seem to be awfully under-protected, with insurgents being allowed to attack them left and right, on the road or at home.

  Having a dedicated yojimbo/bodyguard with a sword might have been fine in the Japan of 100 years ago, but no matter how talented they are, a yojimbo is no match for modern armed groups.

  The gods/kami-sama plan of giving the duties of starting up the seasons to mentally unstable teenagers who are guarded by mentally unstable teenagers doesn’t seem like the best plan either.

  The character writing is fine, if a little annoying, but I’m having trouble buying the fundamental underlying premise.

  I did like some of the world building otherwise: The bit about the Spring Village waiting for her to die hit hard.

    I suspect that the “insurgents” aren’t insurgents in the sense we’d think of the term, and potentially not in any sense at all.

    Maybe it’s granting it more credence than it deserves, or just wishful thinking, but I think there’s much more going on behind the scenes than this notion of “The Agency” defending (or failing to defend) agents from “insurgents.”

    And I think the key to discovering the truth is going to be discovering exactly where Hinagiku was for all that time, what happened to her, and how she ended up the way she is.

    Indeed. And that’s a good example of why I think there’s more to it than there seems. We’ve already learned of one example of the people behind the agents being cruelly self-serving at the agents’ expense, and I expect there are many more.
