A bipartisan bill that would encourage local and state governments to make tech giants pay for their own data center infrastructure is being pushed forward in a desperate attempt to curb the massive, grassroots, anti-data center movement that has been beating back their development and winning. The Ratepayer Protection Act might provide some utility bill relief where it’s adopted by local governments, but it helps create a pathway for tech corporations to continue destroying working class communities. The people won’t be fooled by meager reforms. We’ll keep fighting against data centers and for system a that puts the needs of our communities before big tech’s profits!
