it would be great if I could simply click on this "unread dot" icon to mark the e-mail as read.

Note this action should not focus the row itself, only mark that e-mail as read.

I was used to this feature from my previous e-mail client (Postbox) where it looked like this, and I could even click on the empty space to mark the e-mail as unread again.

I also saw this feature on web interface of one other e-mail provider. So I guess this is probably common feature. And obviously this applies to feeds too.
