Vivaldi won't start or load updates

So I've been through a rough past few days with Vivaldi. Thursday night it slowed to a stop, so I closed it. When I booted back up, it loaded none of my saved tabs. I couldn't get them back any way, so I reinstalled it and reloaded as my tabs asci could from memory.

Only problem is when I shut it down after that, it wouldn't boot back up. And it also won't install updates, which I tried, hoping an update would fix what's broken. So I've been trying to find a way to get my browser to boot up for hours, and I'm about ready to back up my profile from one or both, delete everything and reinstall. And then load my backed up profile. Will that work? Is there something else I should try first?

Okay so I have my backup on my desktop. I'm kind of scared to do it, but I can now delete Vivaldi for a totally clean installation, yes?

  To be 100% save create a folder where you want, I have Vivaldi test folders in /Download.
  Install Vivaldi as Standalone install into this folder.
  Start it once from the Application folder > Ctrl+Shift+W to close the welcome page, close Vivaldi.
  Now delete the new Sessions folder in /Default/ and copy it over from the backup.
  Do you use sync?

Yeah I realized that after hitting send. Anyway, that's not exactly what I did, but I copied the entire Default folder to my desktop.

  The User Data folder include the complete user install, this can break too but very is rare.

Hi, if it was a Vivaldi crash it is possible your session files are broken, they include tabs, workspaces and saved sessions.
Copy %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\, then open the Windows Explorer, paste > Return.
In the folder \Default is a folder Sessions, move this folder to a save place.
Does Vivaldi start?
If not move the whole \User Data\ folder to a save place.
This is like a clean install and Vivaldi create a new folder at next start.
If it start close the welcome window with Ctrl+W.
If you use sync many settings, bookmarks, passwords and many more you can get back.
If not you can get some files/folders back from your \User Data\ folder backup.

    If you paste the string into the address bar of the Windows Explorer it opens the Vivaldi user profile.
    That is just an abbreviation. 🙂
    As you know the path already delete the folder in the Vivaldi user profile, where you get the backup.
