It is, and you can absolutely understand her motivation.
I also read the linked article on Genevieve Bujold and that was brutal. The men in charge of Voyager fuckin’ hated her.

It’s good that a lot of people, including Bujold herself, producer Berman, the director, and even the other cast members, caught that she was wrong for the part early on.
